Imagine the feelings in the moment for the shooter. You just received a pass from a wild turnover, and you have an entire fanbase on your back. Nothing but ICE in his veins.
He literally had nothing to lose, his team is not expected to win nor was anyone expecting them to hit that shot. Complete opposite of what your saying, see how how his performance goes when their expectations increase.
They lost on the exact date: March 16th - the date UMBC blowout Virginia. In that UMBC game Play-by-play Jim Nantz happened to call that game that fell in his lap. Before the game Nantz always wonder when will a 16 ever win.
I'm from South Carolina where Furman from and I told my cousin Furman, College of Charleston, and UNC Asheville are in the tournament from the Carolinas. I literally told her anything can happen its March Madness. I was in the bank watching the ending to Furman/VA game going crazy, lol
That turnover will haunt Clark for the rest of his life. You always remember the losses more than the wins, especially since he could have called timeout. Unbelievable mistake by a senior starting point guard.
Damn I had UVA in the elite 8 but hell ya this is what this tourney is all about. These young fellas creating lifelong memories, especially the seniors.
That’s on u I never pick Virginia they play to slow and their offense always sucks. These little schools bring too much passion for Virginia to win a grind out game
JP Pegues is a Furman Legend. What was really cool too is that he was the first person to shake as many hands as he could with the Virginia players/staff as soon as the game ended. Respect congrats Furman!
Mental mistake during pressure cooker time…Clark thought there was only a couple of seconds left on the clock because he was probably counting thrice as fast as the clock due to the pressure. Virginia also had a timeout left. March Madness has arrived with force! Furman has 2,700 undergraduates and Virginia has 17,000 undergraduates. You got to be happy for the kids from Furman.
Virginia's last 4 appearances in the Big Dance: first 1 to lose to a 16, national championship, lost in first round as 4 seed, lost in first round as 4 seed. The epitome of "boom or bust". Three busts, but the one "boom"... yeah, i think UVA fans will gladly take that and the three first round losses.
Made the worst possible play tried to throw it ahead to his teammates cherry picking in the back court. Had a wide open teammate to his right and a timeout left. Absolutely gutted for him
@@Zaghzackio Kind of like what happened to James Worthy in the '84 Finals against Boston in Game 2. Up 2, shot clock off, had a timeout left, trapped in the backcourt and chucked a blind pass to about midcourt, Henderson intercepts it and gets the tying layup.
I played college basketball in the late eighties and my wife gets upset nowadays when I stay up all hours of the night to catch a game during March madness. I absolutely love seeing Cinderella stories and extreme underdogs pull off crazy wins. Many years down the road these guys will tell their grandchildren about the time their little tiny school beat GOLIATH. PROOF THAT WITH ENOUGH HEART, HOPE, AND SACRIFICE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
I was in Sacramento for Utah State vs Missouri, and we watched this on the Jumbotron. THAT PLACE ERUPTED! It was so cool to witness with thousands of people! What an upset! Everyone in the bathrooms was talking about it.
@@dipthongthathongthongthong9691 lol you don’t know what your talking about when your facing a full court press they did everything right when the ball was given back to the inbounder he was supposed to pass it to the opposite side because the defence shifted very basic press break but for some insane reason he decided to skip a step a chuck the ball to the third pass instead of making the simple pass to the wide open dude on his right
@@Lost1ne33 put the ball in the hands of a dwarf in the corner and tell the white guy on the wing to never check back to the ball. sounds like a brilliant strategy. to be honest, if #2 checked his left shoulder he probably could've dribbled the ball up the court because the double on him didn't come as quick as it should've. he robotically chucked it back to the dwarf. plenty of blame to be shared
@@Lost1ne33 no I actually do and this one wasn't effective in part bc of stupidity from UVA and player's inability to read the play beyond what the they were programmed to do
Was there in person to see it..have watched the replay a dozen times easily since yesterday 😆..definitely rooting for Furman vs San Diego State...Duke-Tennessee should be awesome as well..
Garret Hien is the unsung hero of the sequence. He not only nails 2 absolutely critical free throws at crunch time when he shoots 50% on the season he intercepts the horrible lob and makes the intelligent pass to his teammate for the assist on the winning shot. UNSUNG HERO
Kids grow up playing out scenarios like this in their heads. And then BANG! MAGIC! March Madness really puts out some of the greatest moments in all of sports
I dunno if that kid Clark can ever recover from that error. It's different if it happened in a regular game or a summer league or a mini tournament. But this situation, this game is completely different. This was probably the biggest game of his life. For his sake, I hope he learns from this and gets motivated to make up for this and make himself a better player. Good luck kid.
I chose them in about 12 free brackets on the NCAA app and ESPN app combined because these are the types of games Virginia finds hilarious ways to lose in.
My alma mater made me proud today! Class of '74. Was there when we first danced under Joe Williams. South Carolina is probably thrilled to be off the hook as the only team the Paladins ever beat in The Tourney. Congrats guys and well deserved.
Crazy upsets like these happen so often now, that I always have a couple 12-5 or 13-4 upsets in my brackets now. Always. You just know they're coming. From a fan perspective, love it though. This is why March Madness is amazing.
Damn I don’t know what’s worse for them!! This loss after being in control or getting blown out by a 16 seed!!! I don’t care that they won a national title!! Those two losses are outweigh that ring!!
One of the smartest players in college basketball just made one of the dumbest plays in NCAA Tournament history. I'm sure Fred Brown and Chris Webber can help him get through it. Seriously, I feel bad for Clark.
Kihei Clark is a fifth year senior and played 111 games at Virginia including being part of Virginia national championship team in 2018-19. So how in the heck is that inexperience
