What are these funny looking fasteners that come with do it yourself furniture? Well, one might be a cam lock and nut. This video will show you what one looks like and how it is installed.
You posted this ten years ago and it’s still helping people! I just needed to know what the heck I was doing with these things while assembling a shelving system. Thank you so much!
I seriously was ready to chuck my furniture kit out because of the these screws. I cannot thank you enough for saving sanity and my coffee table. I was able to put the thing together without inventing new swear words. Thank you!
As the old saying goes ' this would make a preacher cuss' . That's what I thought about a Tangkula cabinet from Amazon until watching this video explaining cam lock/nut/screw. Now, I'm well on my way assembling the cabinet and not asking my son to figure it out.
I cannot overstate how important this video is! Ikea sets you up with the larger instructions and leaves the smaller details for people to magically figure out themselves.
THANK YOU so much, demonstrating how the cam lock/screw work. Tangkula floor cabinet purchased from Amazon & thinking I may have bought something too complicated to assemble, you saved the day. Now, a senior lady on her way putting this cabinet together. Thanks!
Thanks so much sir! For mfr to have the customer assemble and then offer no instruction adds insult to injury. I am so grateful for your simple video! Company coming!! You saved my life!!!!! Thanks again and again and again.... and again!!!
I've checked this video after struggling with these cam stuff over 30 mins. I was rolling these bits again and again.... Thank you so much. Really helpful!
Thanks for posting this! Really a lifesafer. I could not figure out what the point was and my pieces were not sticking together. After this, everything totally secured in the matter of seconds :)
thank you for this! i grew up without a dad nor father figure so i have no knowledge over these kinds of things and I'm too shy to ask anyone and i wanted to build my desk myself. this really helped me!
Yes!!! Also a single mom trying to assemble a desk for work and could not figure out what to do with these things! This video was EXACTLY what I needed and saved me so much frustration. Awesome . Thank you!
omg you have literally just saved my life im building a cabin bed and I have to attach 2 slats together either side of the bed with these screws and I literally didn't know how on earth to do it thankyou so much.
Why I decided to assemble a console table on one of the hottest days of the year demonstrates my stupidity. Surpassed only by my ignorance of cam screws & nuts. Your tutorial was a gift from above, thank you so very much! Not even sure how I found it but your video is brilliant!
Thank you!! I've just spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out how these cam locks work whilst assembling my TV stand, I think you've just saved me from insanity!
I was going crazy. Child of a contractor and I never ONCE saw one of these things! Just bought a DIY entertainment center and it came with a quantity of 50. You're a lifesaver. 😂
I was trying to assemble a desk, and the way the instruction manual explained the cam lock system may as well have been in a foreign language for how confusing it was. This video saved my butt, thank you!
Thank you so much! Trying to put a bookshelf together and the instructions were horrible even with the pictures....had me sticking the screw side in the cam lock and parts weren’t sticking. This helped a ton! Thanks again.
That was so helpful! I was assembling a storage chest and I couldn't figure out for the life of me how these funny looking screws worked. Thank you, kind Sir.
Putting together a piece of kitset furniture, woefully inadequate instructions ... and never have I seen these little contraptions before. Panic! After finding this video, this has turned out to be the easiest part of my entire construction. Thank you!!!!!
Thank you!! I've been trying to assemble a wardrobe cabinet and was stumped when I saw these funny looking things! Manual didn't explain how to use them, good thing I saw your video.
I was ready to throw this across the room before I found your video. I have put together dozens of items, including a working fireplace and a Pilates machine, and none have stumped me like these cam locks. I didn't even know what they were named and nothing on the instructional sheet gave any clues! Thank you so very very very much!
My manual literally just said "screw in as per diagram below" The diagram was small and blurry. The picture of the screws were about the size of ants. Not exactly helpful
Thank you so very much for your explanation, the product manuals are always so vague. I am putting a shelving system together to show my husband that I CAN do this. You have just showed me how to master this!
Your voice is soothing and the way you explained and showed us was amazing and you helped me a great and stopped my frustration completely, I feel so happy because of you. Thank you!!!😘
Thank you so much! I hadn't worked with cam nuts before, and I wound up with a cheap dresser that had it backwards in the instructions. They very clearly showed putting the nuts in first, then trying to hook everything together in a later step. Big parts of the body of the dresser used those cam nuts, so I was stuck and very frustrated...and then, thankfully, found your video. Suddenly, after doing things in the opposite order from what the instructions showed, it went together like it was supposed to. Thank you again!
Your video save all our work my love, even after more than 10 years ❤️❤️❤️ hope your pillow always cold on each side and traffic lights always turn green on your side❤️❤️❤️
i got a bookshelf i sat here for 2 hrs trying to figure it out. instructions dont tell u 1/2 of this!!!! thank u for this video, i'm gonna try it tomorrow!!! im so excited, i was gonna have to wait for my neighbor to put together!!
I played house flipper 2 and couldn't figure out for the life of me why I had to turn a screw that doesn't go in or hold anything down only after I put the wood onto something else, you saved my cat!
Thank You soooo much. I was about to lose my mind. I was putting the nut in the hole first and then the screw part wouldn't allow the boards to come together seamlessly. No amount of hammering with my mallet would work. I had given up until I found your video. I'm gonna take everything out and then put the screw in the hole first and then place the nut in
Very helpful. I hadn't realized there was a little arrow on the cam lock that tells which way it goes in, hence, my reason for being here. Thank you so much.
So I bought a beautiful fireplace mantel only to find out it was flat pack. Annoying as it's huge but no problem I thought, I've done this before and I think I'm a reasonably intelligent enough person to be able to do this one also. Well bugger me, this piece of work was something else! I'm in Australia and I've never seen a cam lock and screw before so that was all new to me, I'm not gonna lie many tears were shed and a fair few cuss words may have also slipped out trying to figure it all out. So I finally got it all together, looked sensational, turned it upright and it all fell apart...was so devastating. Thank you so much for this video, now I realise that I was supposed to lock those cam things in place, maybe the darn instructions could be depicted using real life photos instead of cartoons!!
Thank you. You have no idea how grateful I am to you. I have been staring at my desk for hours trying to figure out how this worked. Thank you so very fucking much!!!
Thanks so much, I couldn't remember how i put some units together, lol, thought i'd have to break them apart, you saved this pensioner a lot money replacing them. WooHoo. pizza & beers on me :)
Should try figure out how to install your own cam locks in custom furniture it's even harder and zero instructions on even what drill size you need. Cams cost 4 bucks for 8 but the install kit is about $35
Wow, thank you for this, as many others have already said. I'm trying to build my daughter's changing table & had NO idea how to use these things. This was a great help!
AMAZING👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾If I didn’t love you and this channel so much for education I would be so damn jealous. Girl! This is amazing. I bet this would cost 200$ in a store which I would pay for cuz I’m lazy and not handy. 😭. Just imagine how much money you save by being crafty. Bravo to you boo! Omg I to have that frame by the flower....got mine from zgallerie. (Of course they over-charge) 2:32
Thank you so much! I put together a bookcase about 10 years ago and it did not have these so, I was kind of confused. After I watched you it took me a whole 45 seconds to make them work for all 3 of them. You saved my sanity. Thanks alot! 😁
Thank god for you tube. I couldn't figure out how this worked. I made the mistake of putting the lock part in first. I just looked up the damn screws on you tube and seen your video. Took me 30 min to get the lock part out. Finally i see how it works. What ever happened to the day things got delivered in one piece.
Thank you!! I was so confused as to how this screw was supposed to connect two pieces of wood together. Shame my instructions had me install the wood so those holes are on the wrong side, requiring a significant rebuild. I honestly don't think I would have been able to complete this build without you, so thanks!!
Thank you for posting this! I was putting together a dresser with no instructions on how to install the cam screws/locks and this saved me a lot of time.
Thank you soo much for sharing this video... I been waiting for 1days without dont know how to fix it... After Watch this video i am verry Happy to get fix things.... Thanks alot 👍👍👍
