I think, lately, Idle has been trying to challenge gender roles. Notice how they say "I'm a Lion", even though, by society's standard of gender roles, it should've been "I'm a Lioness". Personally, I really like that because there is really not much artists in kpop that does this or challenges these korean standards, even criticizing the kpop industry conventional standards, but that would be a topic for another day. Even in their latest comeback, "Tomboy", theyve promoted themselves as "Idle" and you can observe how intentionally they removed the "G" in "(G)I-dle", thus making it look like "(_)I-dle". As well as the line "It's neither man nor woman". If its a mistake, then I have a hard time believing so. Correct me if Im wrong tho.
@@axis1198 I think you're looking into it too much. Lion is considered the most powerful in the kingdom but at the end of the day the female lion is the one doing most of the work. I think that was their take on it: were the ones doing all the shit so I'm gonna claim the title you give to someone else
@@Mel-jl8dt I think more or less, my comment is not too far from what youre thinking too. You guys may have been confused, and that is my bad. I truly think Idle is claiming the title of Lion indeed as while Lioness is still a strong title, it could easily be devalued since a Lion holds more power to that title. Idle is known in Korea to be breaking kpop conventional standards and sometimes deliver commentary or criticism towards the korean society, and they deliver it through their performances, their songs, and especially their lyrics. I may be looking too much into it, but as someone who has been around in kpop since 2011 and can quite understand the language, I wont be surprised if it turns out that way in the end. It seems so for me. But yes ofc, you guys have the freedom to think otherwise, Im not claiming to be perfectly correct, its just what I strongly believe in. You can always interpret it differently.
fun fact (g)-idle produces all their own songs. Like their newest album the title song Tomboy and three other songs are produced (composed lyrics and arranging) by Leader Soyeon, together members Minnie and Yuqi creates each two songs as well. They are a self produce group creating concepts designing stages! Talented queens honestly! Stan I-dle
Oh! So they are like BTS, thats why I'm so engaging listening to them. I knew about them a long ago in 2018 with "Pop Sars" from League of Legends, but now I'm into the K-Pop industry with BTS, I loved that them write their own songs, it makes them more original and personal, and this is happening with me again with G Idle, all of their songs I feel them really personal and original, I think it is because like BTS, they write their own songs, that is just amazing because I'm loving them!
Interestingly, the song was written by one of the members Jeon So-yeon, and she also composed and produced the song (along with another music producer. These girls are definitely very talented, and it shows in their songs/videos concepts being so artistic and creative. It takes listening to the songs a couple of times to fully understand- but definitely a piece of art (unlike other kpop songs / groups which are trendy but shallow).
yes, I still think they are underrated even tho their most viewed mv is 300m+ views, I think it should be way more than that! ppl know them for their most popular songs but don’t be looking into their albums, just the title songs tbh

Some points about LION: -I never realized the "I" on the title being different from the other letters, that's so damn great. And yes, it may connect to the I-DLE in their name since they always showcase that I for INDIVIDUALITY. Their albums always have I (I-AM, I-MADE, I-TRUST, I-BURN, and I NEVER DIE). -Soyeon (rapper, leader, producer, etc.) created this music for the competition QUEENDOM. You should check out the stage performance. She wanted to watch the new Lion King movie, but cannot due to her busy schedule. So, she created a song connected to it. She stated that though they are queens, they can also be lions, disregarding the "male-female" part since music is for everyone. -In this song, they really did broke the standards and walls of (kpop) music. Soyeon said on her rap part about breaking the suffocating prejudice, and creating their own path no one had taken before. Another big step was showing tattoos, since it was kinda 'off' showing tattoos in korea, especially in public. This was the 1st MV where they showed her tattoos. -About Soojin's (girl with scar & outro line) tattoos, yes, those are real. The one on her left arm is the biggest, saying "self love is the best love". I believe Soojin currently have 10 or 11 tattoos. -All members had a solo on the "pa pa pa" part, declaring that all of them are lions and queens individually. Each member in this MV have story (like in other MVs as well): ---MINNIE (intro, Balenciaga sash) was sitting on a pedestal, jungle frame behind her, with arrows and spears around her, but she's not even fazed by them. IRL, she's a Thai idol thus being in the "wild (jungle)" in the kpop industry. Due to this, foreign idols often have more bashers from the kfans, but she's not confined by them, even fear. (She's also from a super rich and known family in Thailand) ---SOYEON (rapper, trapped in cage short blonde hair) was trapped in a cage but if you check she can literally go through the bars, and the cage even got chandeliers, so it may represent being locked up by something or someone. In reality, Soyeon was always locked by the prejudice and standards of kpop industry. Before debuting, she always joined contests but never won because she's "ugly" based on the standard of beauty of kpop. So when she got out of the cage (rap part), she said those lyrics as their statement. ----SOOJIN (scar lady, outro), well she got a huge scar on her back, and it was also framed, stating that yes she got a lot of battle and hardships, but those were also their medal of honor, showing that they are ready to fight. Soojin in reality is a shy and introverted person, and even begged her father for 2 years to let her be in the idol indrustry, ----MIYEON (pre-chorus) was sitting on the throne, and a "frame" around her. However, that frame have daggers and arrows and fire. This may show that despite being a "princess" she's still thrown with hate. Also, this shows that she is a circus lion with the fire hoops, etc. Well, in reality Miyeon is a fun person and other members like teasing her. People and haters however treat her as a joke and she's "too old" to even debut. (she was supposed to be part of BLACKPINK and even trained with them for 5 years). ---YUQI (deep voice girl) was also sitting on the throne with rays on her head. This rays represent both mane of a lion and halo from a "god or diety", thus here, she's a lion worshipped as a god. Well, YUQI in real life is like one. She's Chinese and not only she's an idol, but back in Beijing, she's part of the most exclusive school, and even at the top section, thus, the best of the best. And though she's not the leader, other members listen to her opinions. ----SHUHUA (2nd verse) here, she was sitting on an elegant couch with lion statues beside her, showing that she's a display for show as well. BUT, in the black and white shots, she's leading an army of warriors, donning their shields and marching to battle. Shuhua is the youngest and a Taiwanese. Most MVs, she got the least lines and part, not because of her vocal abilities, but due to her pronunciation and diction of the Korean language, and was even bashed before coz of it. She's also thrown with "visuals only" (well, she really is a beauty), thus the display meaning. But, Shuhua is actually the most open and defender of the group against bashers and haters, and she literally gets mad and shout at the haters during VLIVE and calls fans PABO-LAND (play on PABO (idiot) and NEVERLAND (fandom name)), >

Anyway they just make their comeback a month ago after 1 year hiatus and official comeback as 5 members after one of their members got kicked out from the company due to her bullying scandals which is us (Neverland) didn't even know if she really quilty.. The 4:3 kinda makes it look like they're more confined, constrained then gradually the it all ends on 16:9 I guess they got free from that constraint. The beginning and ending mirror each other so them going from 4:3 to 16:9 at the end highlights the freedom thing. if you want more aspect ratio fun, try reacting to Oh My God from (G)I-DLE it's from the same album. Next to Blackpink and Mamamoo they are the best gg in Kpop. The 4X3 format is representative of confinement, whereas the black and white full frame views are representing freedom. long story short, (G)-I-dle is considered as one of Kpop top girl groups (A-list). they have been quite successful since their debut. the past year was a very bad year for the girls as there's some school bullying controversies with 1 of the 6 members. it ended with the one member being forced to leave the group just a few months ago. They just had their latest comeback a few weeks ago with their first new full album (I Never Die). the title of the album implies they won't die out and they will survive. it has great outcomes in terms of reviews, sales and charts. the title song "Tomboy" along with a promoted B-side "My Bag" are so successful both domestically and internationally. "Tomboy" has dominated all Kpop music charts in Korea in the past few weeks. the rest of the album are very good too. you guys should check them out. Soyeon (the one with short blonde hair in the MV "Lion") is literally the soul of the group who does almost all songs creating, writing, producing and even doing some MV stage sets as well. anyway, the latest album put the girls back on the Kpop girl groups A-list and it looks like they will be hanging around in Kpop for at least a few more good years. (Soyeon once said in a recent interview that the latest album would decide whether they would have a future or not as a group with 5 members, in another word if the album ain't work, the group would possibly disband). now we all know their future will stay bright and shinny.

LION has been produced by Soyeon (the leader and rapper of the group) and Big Sancho (music producer), Soyeon created the concept, wrote the lyrics and brought the main composition then worked along Big Sancho on final composition and arrangement. This song has been created for and during a survival show called Queendom where the group participated (this means during quite a short time with lot of pressure) The MV concept has been created by Soyeon and they had very short time to prepare The lyrics are inspired by the struggles that the group faces as female idols, the group is a self producer group, they provide their songs (lyrics and original composition) and finalise them with music producers, this is really rare in kpop for female idols, female idols are looked down by the entertainment industry and public, and most of time they are only expected to be pretty and sing, so when a female idol brings her own sound she may be criticized and not even be considered as an artist/lyricist/producer. But (G)I-DLE and in particular Soyeon (who almost produces all the songs of the group) prove the haters are wrong, the group can bring great music by themselves and the ones who criticized them can only applause now. Also it may reflect the struggle the group encounter as female idol, as an artist and as a person: Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua are non-Korean, it is quite a challenge in a kpop group, Miyeon almost debut in another group for another company but left and almost gave up her dream, Soojin debuted in another group for another company but the group ended brutally, she almost gave up, Soyeon has been rejected 20-30 times by companies and has been heavily criticised on her look during her first survival show as a trainee The struggles they encounter can't bring them down, the others (haters or lovers) can't decide/choose for them, they are their own lion / own queen / own ruler ; The chorus says "it looks like a lion I'm a queen like a lion" ; in the popular folklore the lion is the king, not the lioness, so they say they are the ones who rule and being women won't stop them to do so.
