This is the Patek Philippe Nautilus of the G-shock world. This isn't just for fanboys, it's the opposite, it's a watch that anyone can wear, and will definitely get attention.
Thank you BW. Your video made me jump off and buy this model & im soo happy i did. Got myself one last October 2019 and have worn it practically everyday for half a year now though i have to say it sometimes is annoyingly heavy, but def enjoy wearing it. Also, you'd be surprised the attention it gets and is also a conversation starter. I totally forgot my other swiss watches. Totally worth every single cent. For me the design and the idea behind it would make this model an instant classic.
That looks like a phenomenal watch. Casio has always been tops for digital watches, in my book. Ever since the calculator and trigraph watches of my youth.
Wowsers! They've literally made my perfect G-Shock. I love my Gs. For me it HAS to be a tough solar and HAS to have atomic timing. My daily is a 5610 which has both these features for a crazy cheap price. This one just looks absolutely stunning! Bluetooth. Brick pattern. BEAUTIFUL finish and look. Tough solar and multi band 6. My goodness grief. I I ever have the spare cash to get one of these I'm getting one. Easy decision.
holy moly thats a freaking badass watch. I like how G-Shock chose this particualr variant over any other variant. A pure digital , non analogue varaint keeping it honest and pure on what they stand for. They really know their fans. Wish I only had little more budget to spare.
I'm a Rolex and AP guy. And I think G-Shock are so cool. I ordered a GA-100 in blue with orange underside. I saw it on my friends wrist and said, Where's your datejust. He said "I bought this on my last cruise" Now I got my eye on a GST -130 with brown leather strap. These G-shocks are cool. Casio should make there GST's case look like Royal Oak's with the movement look like RM. with there own twist on it of course. This GMW-B5000 is the coolest. Great vid.
Its awesome that while you wear some of the most respected Swiss luxury out there, you can wholeheartedly appreciate the Japanese digital end of the spectrum
I just found and bought a gold one with black display. Been searching for it since the launch and have been in multiple countries. Out of all places found it while passing through Vienna Airport! Cost me 480Euro duty free. Super happy.
No such thing as a "made in Japan" model. This model is exclusively built at the Yamagata facility in Japan along with GW5000 and other high end G'S! Awesome watch!
Just bought my gw50001jf a week ago. OMG. May be the greatest non automatic watch ever made. And i give credit to the careful considerations to every single aspect of that watch, especially the dlc coating and the choice of rubbers around the stainless steel. What a supremely comfortable watch. Feels like a thousand dollar watch at only 350 usd. Deal of the century imho. If this was wholly dlc coated, i would buy it, but pure ss, is not as comfortable.
For 500 dollars retail, that is an amazing watch! Maybe after the hype passes, it will be a great purchase. For 1000 dollars, i dunno. It looks great tho. The size is also perfect. Congrats on the purchase bruce, its a keeper.
Hadn't found your page yet when you posted this video but it's awesome to go back and watch it! I got crazy lucky on mine, my local AD got one and he's got a crazy high end shop with all the luxury brands and a few g shocks, and luckily I swooped it up in time. He had no idea what the watch was at all and thought it was a standard model, he even gave me a 20% off discount 😳 anyways I'm still loving mine and I hope you are too!
Man, thanks for this review. I was buying Casio's before the G-Shock was introduced. Yes, and I used them as a Wildland Firefighter (Smokejumper). I remember when one of my crew-members brought in an absolutely new 1st edition G-Shock in like 1980 or so. I thought it was too big! So I kept wearing my cheap F91W-1 version for several more years. I went through a lot of these as they kept getting torn off my wrist hiking through California brush fields. I'm talking extreme duties here (Chainsaw work, days on end, parachuting and landing in trees, and packing a 100 lbs on my back for 10 miles or more. I even took one to Australia and dove it down to 110 feet with no problems. This was the F91W-1 watch, not G-Shock. I just bought my first G-Shock about 2 years ago and took it out to a fire this last summer in Montana. I got the count-down mission version. It does everything my old watch did but has the "mission timer and UTC times". Great watch! But seeing this new "Full Metal Jacket": Yes, you just saw this name used here first and yes I should get a free complimentary "Full Metal Jacket" watch from Casio for my service, I'll send my address to Casio" I'm impressed. Keep up the good work. I also wear my Tudor Blue Pelagos golfing twice a week. I call it my Golfagos.
Respect to all emergency workers and caregivers. My father in law was a Firefighter, he's now retired. Keep the good work. I have the Mudmaster GWG-1000, don't know if the smokejumpers as you yourself also wear this watch like in the G-Shock commercial.

OH God Casio needs to mass produce this. Make this a permanent line.
i think they are. its just some of the market have not receive it yet. As i know, only 3 models out of all 4 metal will be released in limited quantity - TFC (DLC) and TFG (Gold), and Kolor colab. but oh damn... the satin finish reminds me of terminator!
I love my mudmaster, but this full metal watch is just pure sleekness and style. Love the metal finish and the old school watch style. It's stylish and retro and sleek all wrapped up in one package. Santa knows what I want for Christmas. If he doesn't I'll let him know it's this watch.
a lot of nostaglia for me. I think they did a great job and the price considering the use of all stainless steel is still not too bad. I bought the gold, black and silver versions and they make me smile all the time. Still have the original watch too, have had it for a long time and its still working.
Nice enthusiastic review. I bought one, and I don´t take it off anymore, the rest of my small collection became obsolete. I must say that in my opinion this is a watch for the bigger wrist, because of the stiff first links of the bracelet. With me it is perfect, but if you have a smaller wrist I would go for the one with the rubber strap, ohterwise it looks a bit odd. Back to the 80´s!
The watches also check via Bluetooth>WiFi>Internet for Casio Japan's own atomic time provider if you're not near an atomic clock radio-signal (when the watch checks it's own time, 4 times a day). There's a few apps on the store that one can use if they're not near a broadcasting atomic clock too (which I haven't tested as I live near one).
Really nice G-Shock Bruce. I love so many of the G-Shock watches. I feel overloaded they have so many variants. But I'm still looking..I do own just one.
G-Shock aficionados of the world rejoice! Good: brick pattern, bigger buttons (I am particularly happy about this), screw-back, GW-5000 module. Wait to see: is this going to be a scratch magnet? Those polished end-links...hmmm.
This is EXACTLY how I'd want my watch to look like. This is by FAR (in my opinion) the best looking G Shock ever made. That price though - a bit too much for what it is.
Absolutely love this piece (especially over the Gold Plated version), with only one concession! First, awesome video and review, and great shots of the watch worn in daylight too. Very cool, and subbed ;) Now, as an owner of two luxury mechanical timepieces, the Tudor North Flag and Omega Constellation Globemaster (stainless steel/blue dial), I also own and adore my G-Shock G-Lide GWX-5600WA-7 Summer 2017 Limited Edition. I chose that G-Shock for not only it's uniqueness in colour (white with very light grey stripes), but also because these versions of the 'square' G-Shock's are a tad more unusual than the mainline square G-Shock's (see below soon). I use my G-Shock G-Lide for its atomic timekeeping to timeset my two mechanical pieces, and where I am unable to wear my mechanical pieces in some situations. However, I do want a Bluetooth-enabled G-Shock that is square, and this GMW-B5000 is 'nearly' there. So, why I am not 100% satisfied (I am 80%)? A lot of people are aware of the one or two rectangular (aka 'square'... :/ ) series styled G-Shock's that Casio has been making since 1983; the main style that retains most of the looks from the original but has subtly evolved, and the King BB (a very large 'square' edition). HOWEVER, a third series exists under the G-Lide series, aimed at watersport and surfers predominantly. The G-Lide's are identical to the regular square series with three changes. The first two are extra complications: 'Moonphase' and 'Tidegraph'. The third change is a subtle rearrangement of the digital screen. These G-Lide's have their own digital movements exclusive for the G-Lide series; the positive screen is Module 3215, and the negative screen is Module 3222. (My limited edition, positive, G-Lide has a thicker plastic housing and a thicker stainless steel backplate over normal square G-Shock's and G-Lide's too). So, my concession is that I would LOVE to have a Bluetooth metal G-LIDE square version instead of the current GMW-B5000, if only because, as much as I never use the extra complications, I adore the completeness and uniqueness of the G-Lide series! Here's hoping Casio might do something as cool as that in the not-too-long future!
They are not expecting many people to buy it. Only for pure G-Shock fnatics and collectors, and for them Id say its pretty bad ass And they are happy pay that price. Also Im sure unlike its rubber plastic varaint, its value going to increase over time.
Never owned a g shock , never felt the need . However thought the functionality combined with the fact that it’s a handsome beast may be worth contemplating. Wouldn’t have paid 800 or 1000 bucks but picked one up from an AD here in the uk on a Father’s Day sale for the equivalent of 440 dollars , can’t go wrong ...
Awesome review . Was wondering if this would fit someone with larger wrists? My wrists are 9 inches and I really want this watch !! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it ..
Anyone know the predicted lifespan of the recharging battery? I've heard of 20 years for Master of G. Just wondering what Casio officially say ..... I hope the beeper is a bit louder than the run of the mill resin squares.
I just got mine in gold, when will they stop production of this, i just got the GMW-B5000 and some sites say its 35th anniversary, but i can't find that on the packaging or the watch
The kit was $55, I used it on a GW-B5600 so get the tough solar, Bluetooth for under 200, and it looks way more stylish with minimal text and the white on black LCD.
I love that watch, super cool, love the brick pattern nostalgic touch, my only concern is the polished lug/link next to the watch case, would that be a bit too bling for me, maybe not, great video, thanks mate 👍🏻
I just purchased one of these in Australia for $949. I don't consider myself a watch/ g shock fanboy or collector but now I guess I have the bug since today I've also ordered a G-5600E-1 to beat up at work. I plan to wear both watches until they fall apart so the price to me is respectable considering the use and enjoyment I will get out of wearing both.
i had a funny reaction to your video. First impression was " ok cool but kind of lame ". Then i remembered getting my very first G-Shock and how excited i was. I am not going to sell my Fenix 5X but i totally get it! and you have one more sub!
Got my pre-order in at JR Dunn’s. August is the eta. Hey Bruce, do you know or can you speculate what the difference between Japan and the US version will be?
