Thank you so much I have a van with a door that drags when closing. I looked at the mechanics of the door and could no see the problem. I used a wrench to loosen and remove the spring bolt while the cover was still on only to find it helped nothing when I found the upper screw and learned how to remove the cover. Then studying the mechanism I surmised that one of the wheels had come off, but I couldn't get to behind the bar. So I gave up for the night and searched the internet to find the answer to my problem. My van is old. A 1996 Dodge 3500. Served as a church bus for a few years. It has 97000 miles. But I am babbling. You're vidio is the only one I found, and it answered my questions. Thank you. A fellow van anthusist.

Good to see thus subject being discussed. Does your door have a big dent right there at end of door from people pushing on it? The door is designed to do complete function from handle. If you use handle it will release, roll down gutter and at end of the run its designed to pull in a touch then using the handle rotate downward and it will pull door in for full engagement. That dent is made because no one knows how to close it.
I have the same van (fourth owner) and the door has some kind of jam that *requires* it be closed that way. I had practice with this type of door before buying my van, my friend's 95 G20 which could be shut from inside--what a dream. This is currently the bane of my existence, any ideas what might be the problem? If I don't physically throw my whole body into this door, the backend sits ajar a good inch or two.
I've noticed this as well, just purchased one from an olde painter and he described to me how I need to push the door closed, that is the opposite of what you should do 🥲
@Samantha Stephens mine does this as well and to make matters worse the spring that returns the latch on left side of the door won't reset. So I have to finger lock mechanism before I try to close it 😬😬😬
The wheel busted off of mine. And finding that whole assembly has proven very difficult. But I have found other years with longer arms. And I'm seeing that the extended arm is for the vans with the wheel hoods. I'm wondering if I could still use one of those parts for my van. Shouldn't make any difference as long as it works right? Please advise.
P.s. I noticed GM Parts Giant is listing they have those parts on hand. Going to keep that G you might want to grab those parts because they are rare new.
Any tips on adjusting the slider to stop rattling when driving? I've been trying to adjust the front and rear strikers but the rear of the door is rubbing on the back pillar still, need to get it to be a little more forward when closed or get the door to shut tighter, tried pex and friction tape on the striker to pull the door in more.
Getting ready to remove my 1988 G 20 slider door to remove the seal and reinstall a new seal. Does the door remove fully from the body? I was going to remove the door completely as I thought the seal removal and installation might be easier on the ground. Dunno the best practice as this is my first attempt at this. Suggestions welcome. :)
Man can you get a close up on the wheel if you still have the van, the bearing inside the wheel came out and I can't figure out what kind to put back in
I don’t have the slider anymore. If you go on Facebook and hit the pages of Chevy vans, they will have a bunch of guys with close ups and helpful tips to get it back together . I did a gullwing conversion on my van .
I made my extended arm and I put a bolt in the slid track where the new stop should go and it works just fine. Just like I knew what I was doing. Ha ha ha
The longer slider cover is held in place by two Phillips head screws which can be removed for better access. One in the front near where the small bolts are the other is in the far back, open the passenger rear door and you will see the Phillips screw head on the inside upper corner. You do not have to bend the long cover up. Also you can change out the extended slider with the door shut in place after you remove the small front cover. It makes the swap much easier. You only need to open the door to remove the small cover then close it tight. No need for jack stands etc.
