YES! Thank you for the video and agreed. I've been on set with several of these Ellipsoidal units and wondered why the rotate attribute is not been included in every lens. And yes, please add the 10˚, 14˚, 19˚ and 50˚ lenses to the already existing lens barrels.
Just a note that the nanlite bowens mount projection works on the Aputure 600c but the COB on the 600x and 600d are ever so slightly too large for the bowens to lock in place and therefore are NG on those two units.
Amen on the rotating barrel. Not a big deal like you said if you're just blurring a tree pattern on a wall, but if you need precision and focus, without it it's brutal...
the etc leko barrel adapter for aputure is what I really want. Those of us that have a ton of etc barrels really do not want to re invest in more brand only "spot light" attachments leaving all the etc barrels on the shelf... Side Note I bought the first Mole HMI to etc leko adapter years before Joker made theirs... It was a good idea then and still is...
yeah but keep in mind they did not make that leko aputure barrel rotate, but at least you can uses all the lenses.... worth noting that the nanlux adapter uses the whole OED leko so barrels rotate and we will see what they give us on their new evoke projections very soon.
It also frustrates me that COB fresnels are never the right size for traditional scrims. I'm young but I can acknowledge these designs have been evolving for over a century for very good reasons. Yet these LED companies seem to ignore it or perhaps even worse: not understand it and think they know better. It's almost feels like a backstep for grip and lighting design. Like we're losing progress.
yeah also completely annoyed that all these brands thought scrims were suddenly no longer needed, most of these do not even have a scrim slot... as if half scrims never existed or had a purpose outside a straight dimming down that the LED's provide, moreover with the low foot-candles i often have to add a slice of ND since 1% is still too much... doesn't seem hard to design a scrim slot/barn door holder...
I have 3 small spot light attachments. Dedo, Godox (copy of Dedo) and one that takes stills photography lenses. Mounts are Dedo, Bowens and Profoto. The only solution I have found for wide lenses are the 60mm made by Dedo and Godox. The dedo 70-120mm zoom but really the stills photography lenses which you can use any Canon or adapted lens on. Not very light efficient though but they are small and wide and the Profoto mount allows for barrel rotation. So do Dedo/Godox.
yes 100% However this is a dedicated ellipsoidal and so i left out others as well by ETC, Chauvet etc that were not COB designed to be multi-purposed via fresnel, soft box, projection, etc... all the dedicated LED ellipsoidal have the rotating barrel feature as far as I'm aware but for some reason all these other COB manufacturers have omitted it.
Is there a particular reason we haven’t seen 3d led cobs, that mimic the shape of a bulb? like what they use for headlight swaps. Seems like it would be able to function in a similar manner to a stand tungsten or hmi bulb.
We have, for example the etc source FWD; www.etcconnect.com/Products/Entertainment-Fixtures/S4WRD/Features.aspx - limited space of the “bulb” I think means it lacks output and presents cooling issues, the bulb approach was also done with liquid cooled bulbs like on the Cineo R15
You hit on it, but I think they are dealing with a physics issue. It isn't going to work without a point source light, or the expense of a Dedo style lens system. ETC have the Lustr light to use with the lenses, but they don't actually try to combine the color LED's. The shadows and fringing are a mess. And the bigger the COB's get, the bigger the spotlight attachments get. Plus, you need fans. I think you may be holding onto your Jolekos longer than you think.
yeah def physics... and i think thats why they've been avoiding the super popular 50 degree. Seems it's a bit easier to go narrower rather than wider. But given low foot-candles we often shoot in I'd rather have one then have nothing. I had the same thought on the 800 jo-lekos but more due to size then output... i'm afraid the equiv in LED is going to be just too damn big and heavy.
