Hey Chaps! What phones shall I add in my next Battery test? 👉 NOTE: Had a question why iPhone 12PM was still 'on' when I called time on it. Reason: I booted the phone again to double check it fully died, it powered off 5s after turning back on but coincidentally that's the b roll clip I used 😅 I ran this entire test twice (fun couple of days..) - and the results are the same.

I'm really curious how long that S21 Ultra would go on 60Hz, when traveling I'd mostly put it down to 60Hz just to make sure it lasts!

@@joaomansano145 Well depends on your definition of fair; I think he made a fair justification that this is the preloaded experience. In normal use most people would probably stick to VRR at 1080p (I'd probably personally go 1440p, but turn it down for longer days)

The Galaxy S21 series running at 120hz screen refresh rate is absolutely amazing lasting that long. What more if they are running at 60hz? Samsung really did an amazing job on their new flagships.

@@CS-pg4go not always. You can always switch it back to 60 hz if you know you'll have a long day or you are out on a trip and you need to click a lot of pictures and videos and save battery. So there is always an option. Hence it should have set at 60hz.

Really nice test! Just a quick thinking, it's good to see that all Samsung are 120hz, so if you want to save battery you can downgrade to 60hz and have a little longer on your day

No actually. It will be the same or worst considering that their screens can run at as low as 10 hz in 120hz adaptative mode. Keeping the screen at 60hz won’t last longer.

@@davidlane9609 Keeping it at 60hz will most definetely increase the battery life. There is already tests on this that show about 10-15% increase. Personally that is just too small to even consider, as 120hz just feels so much better.

@@davidlane9609 60hz mode will last substantially longer during this exact test because the video on RU-vid plays at 120hz regardless of RU-vid in-video FPS. my note 20 ultra's adaptive display does it to me all the time. Video says 60. Screen runs at 120. There's a reason samsung recommend the Medium power saving mode that turns off the adaptive refresh rate.

Of course there's a difference in the S21U . 22mins is mainly due to the GPU as they both use very similar architecture bar the gpu. Would be interesting to see if any 2 of the same phones get exactly the same run times .

Nope! My Note20U is in 60hz WQHD+ with 0.5x animations. If I were to get a S21U, I'd still chose the best battery mode. It's not only to save juice over a day, but if you keep your phone for a long time, it will mean less charging cycles.

Different apps are used. Check out @phonebuff . They are making battery test that are 100% based on daily usage (brightness, used apps,) (the settings on the phones are also all the same at the test)

Pretty impressive for the Samsung’s, I moved away from Samsung after my abysmal 3 hour SOT S9 and the not much better S20 Exynos 990. I got a iPhone 11 and it gets Similar results to the 12/12 pro. But I’m tempted to move back to Samsung with the 21+ or 21U or stick with iPhone and get the 12PM

Turning adaptive refresh rate off will mean the Samsungs cant slow down to 11hz. It will barely have an impact on this test.

@@Milselim 60hz on Samsung gives +30% battery life when watching vids and such, so the comparison with ridiculous 60hz screens of "premium" iphones would give them a big dose of advantage. The test can be done in many ways - the one made by Tech Chap was "all functions on max setting" in which iphones don't have some of them.

I was actually interested in seeing the battery life comparison of the two S21 Ultra variants (Exynos and Snapdragon) with the display set to 2K+ at 120Hz. I've been using 2K displays on phones for awhile now the I'm not downgrading.

I went from the 11 Pro Max which had incredible battery life to the 12 Pro, and while the battery life is definitely not as good, it’s still more than enough for me.

First battery life difference I have seen in any video of S21 Exynos and Snapdragon. In most videos they have ended with 1% up or down. Anyways TOM, please do your Exynos test with "Power Saving Mode" enabled. There is a huge bug.

People complaining and saying that it’s unfair because the iPhones don’t have 120hz panels, well they also don’t have 5000mah batteries. This isn’t supposed to be a test of fanboys vs fanboys it’s for people that care for feature sets vs practicality and realising compromises that would have to be made.

When my s21 is at like 20 or 30% I usually lower it to 60hz which gives me a lot more battery life, and so I think the winner is the s21 🥰

The battery life on my iPhone 11 Pro Max has been one of the best on any phone I've used. It lasts at least 2 days with normal usage.

'realistic' isn't the same as like for like, there are two major different feature sets, the Samsung users can downgrade to Apple's 60hz refresh rate to save a lot of battery and get the same performance
