You dream phone? Image quality is not as good from photos and videos as in the 22 Ultra. Plus, S22 screen is much better displaying images brighter and sharper. 100% brighter than Note 20 Ultra. That's a huge difference. Side to side, the Note 20 Ultra screen looks dimmer when compared with s22 ultra.
I miss the MicroSD slot. it made transferring photos and music a lot faster than wifi or even direct connection. I miss replaceable batteries more. The s22 combines the best of the S21 Ultra and Note series. Samsung is consolidating both lines and I'm not blaming them. it's great to see the SPen return to the S22 with the Bluetooth functionality. Camera users and those who miss the Stylus might want to upgrade, but the newest phones get upgrades first.
I am happy with my Note 20 ultra, It has everything I need and I still get good complements 1 year and a half later. The microSD is a huge deal beaker for me, I'll pass on this one.
I own Note 20 Ultra and in my opinion the technological leap in 2 years is not so big, that I would consider upgrade. The dealbreaker for me is lack of sd card, since I recently bought 1 TB sd card. So in terms of memory I would be downgrading
agree.. being so said a multimedia and productivity powerhouse phone, sd card should be put back.. or else samsung flagship will just be like other phone such as xiaomi, pixel, oneplus which does not support sd card
Personally I'm happy with Note 20 Ultra ... It has everything I need .. the life battery is so awesome plus it's has MicroSD ... Camera it's not big deal for me however I'm happy with camera pictures quality and camera lens options ... No I won't upgrade
I'm very satisfied with the Samsung galaxy note 20 ultra. The S22 ultra might have similar features but I thought about getting the S22 ultra and the prices on that are too expensive especially over a thousand dollars. Mines was only $495 for the Note 20 ultra. Some Samsung phones have great similarities.
I am still using Note 9... I really looking forward to upgrade my phone.. At first, I really thought on buying the S22 Ultra, but because it don't have SD card slot, I'm gonna skip it... I've use SD card for easy transfer between my phone & tablet, so I'm going to upgrade to Note 20 Ultra since it still worthy to upgrade from Note 9
You'll inevitably have to switch to a device without an sd card slot, I personally think it's better sooner than later, especially since the S22 will be getting 4 years of software support
@@sockdunderbutt4922 think so? Doesn't samsung provide their other devices wit sd card slot? In my opinion the sd card slot was a top 5 reason alotta people would buy their devices.
@@sockdunderbutt4922 You do realize that the Tab S8 still has a microSD card slot, right? His point is valid since Samsung could have easily brought that feature back. Also, who is going to want to connect an external SSD all the time. That is not practical.
I still use my Note 8. I'm looking to upgrade and was looking forward to the 22 coming out. Without expandable memory, I'll be looking to get a less expensive Note 20.
With my Note 20 Ultra still doing great, I'll wait next year for the S23 Ultra. Maybe by then, Samsung will perfect the UDC and get rid of that stupid punch hole. I still wish they would get the idea in their heads to add a microphone to the S-Pen for dictation in something like Samsung Notes, that would work like Otter! I know, keep dreaming!
Buying the S22 is one more vote for: please keep eliminating features we love like removable batteries, ir remote control, video out, sd card etc. S22 has no SD card slot, less screen resolution, no video out to TV, no Dolby that note 20 has...? Wtf would I pay twice as much for this phone?
Sorry but my note 20 ultra is working like a champ. Plus I can't say this enough. I love the fact that I have a 512 gig phone and I also have a 1 Terra bite SD card installed. Come on , this s22 doesn't compare. They have made a huge error in not letting us add SD card storage. What the hell were they thinking?
Samsung tried this step with the s6, there was no microsd card and with the s7 they jumped back. Hope this will also be the case with this one. I won't support them with buying a new one.
@@YD-pl5rn The Sd card would be a bummer. But, the great thing is the battery saving features are great as well. And the cameras look amazing. I think I need to look into onedrive just incase I need more space. I am really concerned about the heating issues they had on the note 20 ultra.
im keeping my Note 20 ultra with a 1 terabyte SD card because i enjoy tons of storage. im a professional illustrator and constantly taking, showing and referencing lots of high rez content. im waiting for the 1T installed version to be available in the states but i do enjoy changing my SD cards so i might wait longer than i ever have before to upgrade. thank u Sake fo your clarity and Note support
I'm very impressed with the S22 Note Ultra. Let there be no mistake. It is a Note. That being said I'm sticking with my Note 20 Ultra, but more than likely I'll probably get the S23 Note Ultra next year. Gr8 vid as usual. 🇺🇸 📱
You will be waiting a long time for the next actual Note phone. It seems Samsung is integrating the Ultra series as the new Note, as well as the foldables.
I am super happy with my Note20ultra 512GB(1000dollar, refurbished by Amazon), it's fantastic, I play a mobile game called "genshin impact" at least 2 hours everyday, my Note20ultra never feel laggy, still an amazing phone. Of course I don't have any problem with camera or battery. I don't want to upgrade this year. I might upgrade if the camera is underneath the Display.

New processor ( less heating issues) 256 GB (Double from 128gb) Better Camera Ofcourse brand new ( trade in with 2 years old scratched phone lol) Twice memory card screwed. Lost everything. So no more sd card.
The deal breaker for me is not having the micro SD card, they start you off at 8gb ram 128gb model, then it goes up from there and the screen size is smaller compared to the Note 20 Ultra. To me it feels like a downgrade. I'll stick with the Note 20 Ultra.
Awesome video as always. So glad you are always on top of all the updates and kick out these videos so fast. You are one of the best in giving info on Samsung Galaxy products. Even though I'm hooked only on Samsung Galaxy Folds and Flips.
Even with Samsung's extra trade in amount and pre order discounts you're still looking at $600+ to get barely any good upgrades. Slightly better battery, brightness and processor dont equal a $600+ upgrade for me.
I have the note 10+. My brother has the note 20. I was looking forward to this ultra. But the memory card issue has totally changed my mind. This is a major factor for me. And Samsung could have just as well left this feature on. I feel that Samsung is now trying to hard to keep up with the Jones. Iphone loses the headphones 🎧 jack, then Samsung loses the headphone jack. IPhone never had expandable storage, now Samsung is trying to trail behind. I've always had a note, from the note 2. I see it's getting time to look for another. I do not buy phones without expandable storage. Maybe in 2 years Samsung will realize their horrible mistake and bring back the SD card. Until them. I'll keep my note 10+.
Do you remember Samsung S6 and Galaxy S6 edge + does not feature expandable memory (SD Card slot). Samsung brought back expandable memory (SD Card slot) for S7 and Galaxy S7 edge +, the Note 7, S8 and S8+, Note 8, S9 and S9+, Note 9, S10e, Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10 Note, S20, S20+, S20Ultra and Note S20 and Note S20 Ultra. Then in 2021 Samsung does not feature expandable memory (SD Card slot) in S21, S21+, S21 Ultra and now in 2022 Samsung does not feature expandable memory (SD Card slot) in S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra.
@@happypeople367 Samsung following Apple no phone charger (make customer buy phone charge or use your old phone charge type C or buy the adaptor for Micro usb to type C) but you get a charging cable and reduce packaging to save on cost and the environment.
@@mabeljoe4305 it saves almost nothing for the environment, what it does do is save samsung from supplying an up to date charger for your device , and now you have to buy one or use old rubbish for your $1000.00 + phone , Also as now the box the phone comes in is now half the size because you almost have no accessories, so now samsung only needs ship half the amount of shipping containers around the world making samsung a shitload more profit. Its all about profit margin. Samsung no longer has to spend 3 dollars on each device fitting SD card function , because samsung decided to omitt it , let's do the maths , $ 3.00 saving on each device , samsung sells 30 million S22 ultras , samsung just put $90 million in the pocket , add to that the headphone jack that samsung canned on the note 10 onwards . this is all about the money, and this is why I no longer buy samsung phones.
Note 20ultra was the first Samsung note that as promised, it didn't slow down after 2 years of software update. I just replaced my battery and it's as good as the first day. I'll wait for S23 ultra
The very fact that they left out the processor performance (except the NPU) difference compared to the previous generations in the unpacked event shows that s22 series is not worth an upgrade unless you are really into those incremental camera differences.
@@DANIEL21310 I have TMobile also. I never get my phone's from them. I always buy directly from Samsung. I got my note 20 ultra for 350.00 vs T-Mobile 1200.00
I think it's a downgrade but to each their own. I've about had it with Samsung taking away features and their unboxing experience SUCKS. Might have to venture to something better for my next phone. Not happy with Samsung as of late.
Given that I'm a tech buff, I upgraded from my Note 20 ultra to the S22 ultra 1 teribyte version. The camera improvements and the new processor sold me. $600. Trade in for almost a two yr phone is fantastic. The bundled deal with the new 14.6 tablet, which with $250. Samsung money, 25% off and free $349. Key oard case was just a no brainer. The Note 20 ultra is still a great phone but will Garner very little next yr towards upgrading to an s23. I like staying on top of the tech.
I tried ordering in the US. Won't let me order since billing address and shipping address is not the same. It's so much cheaper in the US than Canada. You save 600-700 dollars in CAD ordering the exact same thing in the US. We get ripped off. All companies want that reserve currency It's like a invisible subsidy.
I did the same thing for the same reason LOVE the Note series so rather I need an upgrade or not I'm in! Ordered mines in white and with the pre order deal the memory is more than enough for me.
I am really happy with my samsung galaxy note 20ultra. also I bought galaxy note 20ultra this week even I know all about s22 ultra. personally I am a note fan. samsung galaxy note 20ultra serves my daily tasks very well. so I will not buy or trade or exchange my note 20ultra for s22 ultra.
Great information great review makes it easy to decide my choice on upgrading or to stay with what I have I like expanding my storage so I kinda lean towards the 20 note sometimes what you have is enough tech add ons I'm sure there great but nothing wrong with if it's not broken dint fix it thank you again blessed to have you and your Channel and content 😀
Not sure on the exact details for other carriers but with Verizon the note 20 ultra cannot access the new c band network they deployed last month as of now, possibly ever. So if having those faster speeds interest you, that could be something else to think about.
The battery capacity is increased from 4500mah to 5000mah. But you will probably have the display resolution to 1440p 120hz. So the battery life might be the same.
Great commentary/review as per usual! I'm keeping my 20. It's still fast powerful and has expandable storage. So I'm sticking with the "older" tech. I find that it's a losing game to keep upgrading. The second you buy something this outdated. These incremental improvements are not worth the expense for me as i use the phone mainly for calls, emails and texts. If it works and does what I need, I don't need to change and the Note 20 ultra works.
😷I've always upgraded when a new Note iteration was released. But gotta admit that the S22 Ultra is seriously underwhelming. Can't see me changing my Note 20Ultra to this.. For me Samsung has brown it ....😱
@@kangacrew540 like anyone that has owned full featured galaxy notes from the past , people want another proper galaxy note, not a pretender with an S pen.
Always appreciate your reviews sir, this is exactly what the consumer needs to see before making a decision. I always wait two or more years for an upgrade, still using my note 10 lite for that matter which doesn't feel like a dinosaur especially for taking down notes which is the best feature Samsung ever came up with in my opinion. Thank you once again sir these reviews make us feel better.
i throughly enjoy your videos as there very detailed and you give your opinion as well comparisons without any pressure, I've been following your videos when purchasing new phones thank you
I have the note 10 so this is going to be a huge upgrade for me and I can't wait to get my hands on it because this one is starting to give me problems with the screen being really slow now.
Peace to all. My note 20 runs outstanding. Shame on samsung for ending the note series & simply adding a stylus to regular phones & passing it off. #NotImpressed ✌🏿
@@power2g ✌🏿 I don't like being forced into things, especially if I'm dropping over a thousand dollars. Samsung needs to cut the bullshit & bring the note series back. ✌🏿
Lets be real, the S22U is just the Note 22 but named different. They want to push the Note fanbase to the Fold as their new 'enthusiast' line, but realistically the S22U has all the same stand-apart features the Note used to have, such as the square corners, S-Pen integration and top of the line hardware.
It looks awesome but I love that I have a 512 GB SD card that I can swap out at any time. I use it to record on my osmo pocket then put it back in the Note 20U to edit the footage.
☠️😭 especially how with technology evolving so well and everything and soon pretty much going to be just full on everything wireless the IR blaster is like the best comeback Samsung could be doing
Same issues, I think there servers are overwhelmed. I just wanted to see the trade in value for Galaxy Note 10+ 5G and the website is slow and the trade in option was there ($500) but then the website crapped out and when I went back again the trade in section was missing and the website is slow. This includes the Shop Samsung app. However Verizon is offering $1000 trade in for the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G and I'm still not upgrading because of the removal of the SD Card and the MST sensor!
It's the moisture detection foolishness for me. Lost calls and clients from that foolishness. Couldn't charge phone. And it wasn't even raining outside. It goes off easily , just breathe in it and it won't charge.
New SD card of 512, and my 3rd new battery, and my NOTE 4 STILL ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! almost 9 years without investing (wasting) more money and still rocks.
This is the actual video that I needed to see. I'm a Note user and I think Im crossing to iphone 13PM.... I want something different. Keep the great work !!
I love the gorilla glass on Note20. I don't use a screenprotector and still no scratches since I bought it almost 2 years ago. Sad about SD card. Upgrading to the red Ultra 1TB
Nice rundown Saki. Going for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Love the Note 20-like form factor and an S-Pen inside the device! Ditching the S21 Ultra and those darn S-Pen Cases!!!✌🏾
I'm making the upgrade. I LOVE my Note 20 Ultra, but there is a decrease in battery life, it gets hot when the volume is @ 75% or more for some reason, and I've noticed a very light hint of screen burn (even though I turn my brightness almost all the way down when inside). I use the S-pen and cameras a LOT, so those upgrades alone are worth it to me. And with the $600 trade-in and $200 gift card (best buy), I'm looking at $800 in savings. I don't know if I'd get that by waiting another year.
I was looking at the same thing. I have the S20 Ultra, and am experiencing some battery drain issues. Using Samsung's site the trade in and savings are very similar to what you described from best buy with almost $700 in savings. I think I'm going to preorder this one.
@@DarkMoonRob Especially if you have the exynos variant i'd say it's worth it. The s20's or note 20's with exynos are just dramatically worse than their snapdragon counterparts. The s22 closed alot of the exynos - snapdragon gap
As always, great video. Unfortunately, for such an awaited phone, I'm not impressed. There are rather subtle upgrades for waiting a year and a half. I was excited for the Z Fold 3, and it was underwhelming. I was sure Samsung was going to bring back a true powerhouse with the S22 Ultra, but it's just slightly better than the Note 20 Ultra. I don't think it's worth the $1,500.
More than happy with the Note 20 Ultra but I preordered two 512GB S22 Ultras in Green and Burgundy for myself and the wife. Samsung gave us $800 for each of the Note 20 Ultra and then another $250 each to spend on accessories like Galaxy Buds Pros and Galaxy watch 4 along with some cases. Phones came out to just under $500 a piece which I found great. Camera reviews for the S22 Ultra are great and very noticeable over the Note 20 Ultra and even the S21 Ultra which has a year worth of optimization updates. I cant wait to shoot with it and to enjoy 120hz display without needing to lower the resolution down to 1080p. Also, glad they brought 45W charging back. We've owned a few 45W Super Fast Chargers from Samsung since our Note 10 Plus days but I feel that Samsung didnt quite unlock full 45W charging back then since the difference between the stock 25W charger vs the 45W only shaved like 5 minutes off the 0 to 100 charge time lol . Thats probably why they removed the feature after the Note 10 plus and just now brought it back. I used to think that the lack of a micro SD would be a dealbreaker because Im a heavy user when it comes to photos and videos but realized looking at my storage analizer Im about half into filling up my current 128GB Note20 Ultras on board storage and the 256micro SD card I have in it isnt half full either. File transfers to my PC can be painfully slow when moving a few gigs at a time to and from the memory card but insanely fast when transferring from the phones internal storage. On board storage is lightyears faster than any memory cards read/write speed, plus I find myself never even removing it so really there is no point anymore. I owned so many Galaxy S and Note devices and even on the ones that removed the MicroSD card I never missed it.
Most of us are loyal to Samsung and recommend it as a brand to colleagues and friends because of build quality, durability and features. The lack of an SD card is a deal breaker when considering an upgrade. I had to replace my backup phone in a hurry recently and I trust their quality to the extent that I simply asked for the highest speced Samsung phone that had a dual sim slot in addition to an sd card slot. The SD card has proven to be an extremely reliable way to backup information, its absence is disappointing. Even though I'm ready for an upgrade, I will probably still hold on to my trusty old note!
I ended up returning the note20ultra and sticking with my s9plus for a while longer. I wasn't at all impressed with how the camera made images look almost fake. And the fingerprint sensor wouldn't work with a screen protector unless it had a big ugly circle in it. Planning on getting the 22ultra hoping it'll be better.
Yes, same phone here. I'll keep it for now because SD Card and the ear phone jack that I use for other things. Not sure I like that Samsung is taking away these features just like Apple did. Samsung needs to NOT Copy Apple and give buyers the little extras that helps them stand above apple.
@@The_Kirk_Lazarus Mr. Kirk you don't need the memory when you have the 1 Teribite on the S22 Ultra! That's plenty of storage and it has the S pen! The plus side so many colors to chose from and the night camera rocks! Also Samsung gives you a $250.00 credit to spend on products!
@@Music4HimNow I pre-ordered the S22 Ultra myself yesterday, but as a Note 20 Ultra user it would be a significant upgrade for someone that had previously used the Note 9, but without the heftier price tag.
Great comparison. Very easy to digest! I'm eagerly waiting for my 512GB Sky Blue model to arrive, which will replace my S20 Ultra. Man, I remember in 2010 when I thought my HTC Evo 4G had a humongous screen. It felt that way. A decade later, we got mosquito wingspan away from 7". It's crazy.
I had mine for about 4 months now and I love it I put an additional 128GB micro SD card just to back up some items above all its amazing phone with the new S22 Ultra in the market it's not much of a difference regarding some of the upgrades anyway I'll keep using mine until there's a huge difference between the Note and the S models let's wait and see
My note 20 ultra has been great but...it's worth more to trade it in now vs a year later. I'm excited for the s22 ultra and will likely get the s23 ultra too. Samsung trade in deals are always great. 😊
Exactly I really like my 20 ultra but it's almost 2 years old and I am bit concerned about battery life and performance overall, even after upgrading software to Android 12 and considering that s22 ultra has 25-35% faster processor and almost unlimited signal connectivity, better display, camera and much more I decided to get one and I glad I did. Has 900 bucks for my trade and with memory upgrading to 512 gigs its cost me 499.99 including 250$ Samsung credit plus all the bells and whistles like spotify and more. Already bought Ghosteck aluminum frame case for the new baby and honestly can't wait to ahold it 😍
@@abrecos Wait wait... how'd you get $900 for trade? I also traded in my note 20 ultra but that was only $600 so traded in something else too. And then used my 250 for the new tab as well. Also could you share link to the case you got? 😊
I got 800 + 250 and an additional 62 for educational discount so only had to pay about 493 from a total worth over 1600 (includes other stuff like adapter etc)... I love the note 20 ultra but with the battery usage and the drops (the phone still looks new) and all that if I wait for another year IMO no one is 1. Going to buy this phone from me 2. I won't get a better trade in value because it will drop so come S23 ultra the trade in value for the note 20 ultra would have dropped significantly. For me, I have not used the memory card slot in omg I dont even remember how long so it's not a big deal to me I have the 512 gb version of the 20 ultra and haven't even filled 1/3rd of it. I dont know what other upgrades anyone was expecting I mean I can't think of anything else any phone manufacturer will introduce be it apple Samsung or Google unless by an upgrade you mean your phone could Teleport you somewhere (pun & sarcasm intended). I think the upgrade is worth if you want to maintain the value of your device.
I love my Note 20 Ultra and I'd keep it a while longer but the screen cracked and it's so expensive to replace the screens nowadays, I feel like I may be better off just upgrading.
I am still very happy with my Note 8. I use it extensively every day doing internet research, watch my favourite RU-vid videos and much much more. I am on my second battery. Screen quality is very good. The phone is snappy and it is as stable as a rock. No need for an upgrade yet.
Currently have a note10+ and looking to upgrade but struggling with s22 ultra not have sd slot. That was one of the features that I love about these phones. Don't think the upgrades are going to be worth it for me. Leaning towards note20 ultra. Sorry samsung. I think a fail with that one.
I'm exactly in the same boat. I'm going with the Note 20 Ultra. Memory is huge for me. Maxed out My note 10+. Everything else isn't significantly better. I barely ever use the zoom feature to that extent the s22 will offer. I'm buying my note 20 for $500, almost brand new condition. It's a done deal decision for me
For my needs I think I'll wait another couple generations to switch. I get the brighter screen and the bigger battery, but isn't the bigger battery necessary to accommodate the brighter screen (that is, if I maintain the crispness of 120hz)? This and the absence of an expandable storage option leave me wondering why I'd ever give up my Note 20 Ultra (with OneUI4 BTW) for an S22 Ultra. Sure the chip is "better," but is it THAT much better? And sure, the S-Pen latency is crazy low, but would I even notice the difference from the N20U? Screens are the same size, camera isn't really that superior for my purposes (I could be wrong here though), and the price is...whoa. My N20U has 12 GB RAM AND the 4Gb virtual RAM. I still have a couple years of updates, and a 1Tb Micro SD installed. By the time I'm out of updates I may be ready for the S24 Ultra. I love Samsung, and if I still had my old Note 9 I'd probably upgrade to the S22U...but with a N20U in hand I think I'll pass.
Samsung stopped the trade ins after a couple of hours. I was stuck dealing with their crashing shopping cart for hours. It kicked me out, I started over, again, only to discover no way to use my $500+ trade in. Grrrr Way to go Samsung!!

@@power2g Thanks for the heads up. That is a big deal for me. I can quit trying now. Keeping my Note 10+5G. I wish the camera was better, but not that much. I've used Samsung Pay for years.
@Phrede The Note 20 series was the last Samsung device with MST. What a lot of people don't know is MST duplicates the strip of the payment card and still can be used for digital card payment even if the pay terminal is not NFC compatible. With MST if you can slide your card through the machine then you can still use your phone to pay even if the terminal is not digital pay compatible. This is huge for me as I rarely carry a wallet. When I go into a mom and pop shop to pay with my phone they tell me I can't use my phone to pay because their register doesn't accept digital payment. Then I turn off NFC put my phone to the pay terminal then bam transaction approved. They always say how you do that. I say MST then they laugh...
@@power2g I don't know how many times I had to say "Let's just try it, treat it just like a card" Much to their amazement it works. Good for a grin. It might not be a big deal if I lived in SoCal. Places near me are pretty old school.
Congratulations on your upgrade! Now instead of having a storage cap of 2.5TB, now you have a storage cap of 1TB and a much lower chance of recovering your things if the phone gets too damaged to turn on! ...and as an added bonus, you can now tap to pay in way, way less places! Enjoy your S22 Ultra!
IMO, for most people who already own the Note 20U, it's not worth the upgrade unless this amount of money isn't an issue at all. If anything, camera is probably the biggest upgrade (both function and aesthetics). Or if you do processing intensive tasks like rendering video, the newer processor would make a larger difference. The rest are for just extremely sensitive people (like s-pen latency, 4k@120Hz display, slightly longer battery life, brighter display only outdoors on sunny days, etc.) Keep in mind sd 8 gen 1 is known to have throttling problems like sd888 did, so heavy gaming or 4k recording for extensive period of time might frustrate some. Also looking at bright screen for extended periods of time (even under sunlight) is detrimental for your eyes, and should be avoided anyways (unless urgent).
