If you have problems with the touchscreen after putting the phone back together, it's possible that the screen is not properly connected or the attached flexible cable was damaged during your repair. Even a minor tear can render it inoperable so you may want to take a look at it under some sort of magnification. It's no fun and risky to open it up again but that's usually the only way to determine what the problem is.

Go Cell Phone Repair Is Data Transfer or can my computer Be able to read my phone after I changed the charging port?

If I understand your question correctly, yes. If your phone is working and you have a functional port then it should allow data transfer to a computer.

Patience, patience, patience. If you don't have it, don't try it. I was nervous about removing the screen. I took my time in removing it. The important thing is not to pry it up. I kept moving the picks around the screen and reheating as needed. It took me over 30minutes to do it. Success in the end and the phone now charges again.

ERIK UHLER it took me almost 3 hours for everything because I was so scared to break the screen. It was my first time fixing a phone too and I'm so proud of myself for fixing my phone :)

Worked great for me. I've never done any cell phone repair, but the port fizzled out after only a year, so I thought it was worth a try. THANK YOU!!!

Followed all your steps and I watched your video on how to remove the screen. Everything went perfectly! The only issue I had was trying to remove a stripped screw (my phone was previously opened and I assume the guy stripped a screw). It took some time and a lot of patience but I managed to do this within 3 hours (first time messing with this stuff ever). For those intimidated by the task, just take your time, don't get pissed off, work at it slowly and you can do it!

Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Instead of a hair dryer or hot plate, I used a heat gun which quickly brought the frame up to glue-release temperature, being mindful of the 850°F minimum coming out of it and not melting anything. Ripped the foil in the back slightly but carefully put it back in place. The Home button stayed stuck to the AMOLED, so I left it there during the teardown and reassembly. I left the antennas (I had two - Verizon phone) connected to the other board as I removed them from the charge/USB sub board, so I only had to make two reconnections. Everything works like a charm and it's your video that was instrumental in my success. Thanks again!

I've followed the instructions on this video and had absolutely no issues changing the charging port. I made sure I've applied enough heat and nothing got broken (had to use a hair dryer as I do not have a heat gun). Thank you very much for this tutorial. Saved my wallet some good bucks.

Very good! I just changed the charge port on my S5 and couldn't have done it w/o your help. To anyone attempting.. You must go slow. the screen removal was more difficult than I expected, but the tips here and the linked video are invaluable. I used heat gun and credit cards. once the screen is off the rest of the process is easy aside from getting the mid frame apart. Mine was snapped in pretty well. All back together, screen works, and I'm charging again. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I just changed the charging port! I watched the new 2016 version first because my screen was never taken off before. It took almost 3 hours to do everything since I use a blow dryer instead of a heat gun but that glue is super attached. It was very hard to take out the screen and I keep on reheating and nudging with playing cards and the triangle over and over again till I feel little to no resistance. Everything works fine and I saved so much money!

Perfectly detailed video. It is tricky but can be done - just take your time. Followed along with the video including the UPDATED screen removal video. Took 30 min to remove the screen with repeated heatings. About 1.5 hours total time. Still works and it CHARGES.

Thanks so much for posting this video! Glad I didn't read the comments below before I attempted this, because I probably wouldn't have, not having worked on a cell phone before. But my phone is back together and working fine now! Two minor issues I ran into were that my home button has sunk and is slightly askew compared to before, though it still works fine. The other is that since I didn't watch this all the way through before beginning, I didn't have extra adhesive in advance - there was still some on my phone, but kind of messed up. I smoothed it out as best I could and stuck it back together anyway, but it'd be better to have new adhesive.

Thanks for this video. I repaired mine in 2020-09. I got the message that the charger or cord was not the original and that the one I was using was incompatible with my phone. Sometimes it would charge for a couple of minutes then it stops and I get this message. I've been charging with different cords and different chargers for years and never had a problem. I looked for apps to diagnose and/or fix it to no avail. The phone is getting old so I'm sure techs have more interesting things to do. I also got the port sharing message saying I should get the app for it. It wasn't available at Samsung. The app I found was on Playstore and showed one page that doesn't move until you attach the phone to another device. I finally just sent for a new charge port and installed it. I haven't had a problem since. It was not an easy job. If you're not good at fixing electronic gadgets don't attempt it. Getting the glass off the front without breaking it was kind of "hair raising". Keep the heat on it. I kept jamming many pieces of plastic (bottle caps) in every place I could get at. This is the video that I used. I've had cords go bad on me in the past. It's frustration when they work if you bend them one way and not the other. If you keep getting these messages, don't kid yourself it's a bad charging port. I had another phone like this with a port that had a metal piece work loose inside the port. When I plugged it in, it shorted the wires. I wedged it back into position with a needle using a microscope. It didn't do lasting damage. The computer that I had it plugged into kinda went berserk for a minute. It shut down the usb port temporarily.

Awesome, worked like a charm, thank you very much. the screen replace was tricky an myself like most don't have a heat gun so i did it a little different. I'm not going to recommend it, I'll just say that it worked for me. I took a frying pan and heated it up on LOW heat, i then took a full piece of paper towel and folded it twice making it 1/4 the size, placed that in frying pan and placed cellphone with BATTERY, sim and memory card REMOVED on top of it screen down. this gave it good indirect heat. after maybe 3 minutes and constantly checking it for temperature the screen came off relatively easily and heat distributed evenly to all edges. I'd do it again, but use you're own judgement. best of luck, and thanks again for the post.

Thanks. As you can imagine my intention is to help people get their repairs done successfully. The down side is that annotations don't show up on mobile devices, there's no way to edit the video itself on RU-vid once it is published, and just about no one reads the description. Add that to the fact that the older the video is, typically the higher it will rank so getting updated information to viewers is a real challenge. Next time I get a broken S5 glass I'll do another AMOLED removal video. Slightly more difficult since you don't have the glass reinforcing the panel but still quite doable and IMO worth it for the $50 core exchange/recycle credit.

Very nice video, phone wouldn't charge just gave the bad charger display. No other chargers or removing battery would fix it. So i fixed my phone with this tutorial, but i used 3 credit cards as dividers for splitting the glue and screen. Keeping a card under a side once it was separated then moving on to other. Didn't have a heat gun, just a hair dryer not much different just doesn't get as hot, might be a good thing so it didn't overheat. Once the glue was loose from sides, the screen has a sticky back side on the copper strips. Its easier to see once you split the sides and get light under it.

I have a new screen coming in a few days with the LCD and just incase I bought a new home button as mines lost its tape. But ive tried charging it and it works so just need those 2 items and I should be good. It only cost all together 28 pounds. For the home button and LCD screen. Can't wait lol

One question: How do you learn the specifics of what to do in order to disassemble a particular unit in order to swap out the parts?
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 8 лет назад
+Mike K Thanks. Short answer- prior experience with a manufacturers handsets and finding disassembly guides online. If one does not exist then its a matter or carefully examining the device and hoping that you dont overlook anything that might cause damage in the process.

This process is a very hard! I figured since I am a very patient and pay close attention to detail that this would be and easy fix, well I was wrong. I shattered that amoled and ripped up the Golden foil. I definitely recommend a guitar pick like he uses.
@arcticminibike4033
@arcticminibike4033 7 лет назад
Wish I'd read the comments here first. Same as others, I got the pick between the glass and AMOLED, ruined the display. Now I'm looking at a $150 part, all because this video didn't call out to be careful to get UNDER the copper foil. I applaud you for creating a nice video for this and I understood the risks, but might be good to edit it to make sure people know how deep the pick needs to go. Being cautious cost me big $$$.
@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 7 лет назад
Sorry to hear that you had trouble with this. At :56 there is a card that appears and points to an updated video. Despite that and the disclaimer at the beginning of the video it's difficult to communicate with people who are watching it. Annotations don't work on mobile devices, cards often go ignored, and I get the impression that most viewers never read the video description. I am open to suggestions on how to add recommendations after a video is published but the sad truth is that this isn't how RU-vid works. There are few options in the way of amending content. I'll try pinning a comment. Maybe that will help.

Before you go through all this trouble try blowing the port out with compressed air after spraying a shot of QD electronic cleaner. Use a tiny flathead screwdriver to gently and carefully move thin cotton fabric or paper shop towel over the contacts, or use a clean toothbrush. I did all of the above and my old charging port works again.

The lcd glass display was removed easily using a heat gun, with patience. Unfortunately I cute a piece corner of the conductive tap of the lcd and the lcd does't display when I power on. I used a plastic card to slide under. Can this be repaired or the full glass lcd? You might want to warn people about not sliding too far under at the top section of display. At 3min you caution about the top right corner nad the guitar pick seems to go far insde as you slide om the right at the same time. I wished I had know about this risk when sliding in mu card along the top. Thanks

i have replaced many Samsung galaxy s5 screens but my question is why do they not ever stay attached the adhesive sticky back and the screen pops out? do you recommend a specific adhesive tape boarder brand in particular?

I was able to successfully change the charging port however my touch screen did not work when I booted the phone back up. I did tear part of the foil behind the screen when taking it off. Is that the issue? Thank you!

@sabina wiggins Unfortunately you'll probably have to open it up again and check for a bad connection or defective part.

+Go Cell Phone Repair I followed all these steps very precisely and installed it successfully, but as soon as i turned it on the screen did not turn on. Any ideas why? Thanks

The most likely cause would be a bad connection where the screen plugs in. Hopefully it was not damaged during removal but that is the second most common reason that I know of.

+Go Cell Phone Repair I followed your instruction but now cell doesnt find any network, Do you think the antenna wire needs to be changed or the whole New charging port is faulty? Waiting for your reply. thanks

+Emraan- -Shanawar Faulty replacement ports are common for this phone. That is a good place to start assuming that youve confirmed that the IMEI is clean.

Video said the adhesive was primarily around the edges. This was not the case with my phone. The screen was stuck very firmly to the frame behind it in the middle by two lines of tape on the foil, and I ended up cracking the LCD as I tried to pry it up from the frame. The glass came off the screen much easier than the screen came off the frame. Even after I gave up on gentleness once the screen was obviously broken, it took a lot of force to get the remains of the screen off the frame. Also, I don't see how the home button comes off the screen. Even with the glass off the now broken screen, I can't see how to peacefully pull the home button off the glass. Atleast it was just a kids toy at this point, so I'm not out anything besides the cost of the replacement port.

Ok I got a quick question, when doing the antenna I have a blue one but also a white one? My charger port looks like yours and there is no slot for it

Later versions of S5 have the home button attached to the amoled. It's a plastic cover to the module below it. So don't try to detach it from the amoled. It comes out with the amoled. In some versions of port replacemen, like this one, it shows a detachment tool being run over the button. Don't do it, if that's that case.

I tore a small portion of my LCD ribbon removing the screen and now my digitizer does not work. I just ordered a replacement for $115. Great video but be careful working along the top of the screen. These ribbons are fragile and they will rip if you push on them with the guitar pick type tool used to pry the glass.

I did the exact same thing! They should tell us about the top right ribbon!!!

yeah you gusy maked this look really easy because you've already taken the screen off multiple times. I ended up damaging the amoled because you never mentioned the fact that it can seperate from the glass on the front of the screen.

so i repaired my charging port, soft keys, part of the motherboard by simply replacing the old with the new G900A part but when my new part is connected it nullifies the imei, baseband, basically removing the "phone" function of the phone. how do i repair this part and get my imei and everything to stay valid as it is with the original part

@GoCellPhoneRepair
@GoCellPhoneRepair 8 лет назад
+Nauman Hussain If you mean the menu/back keys then very likely a defective port. I've seen a lot of bad ones lately. Also confirm that you bought the right one for your phone as they are carrier specific.

The amoled is FRAGILE! This is stressed in the video but I need to stress this again. It's better to just take it to someone than risk cracking it. I was extremely careful, heat gun, took my time and still the amoled cracked, $140 bucks down the drain. Also the camera was stuck on the body and the ribbon tore a bit, needed to be replaced. The guy at the phone store said it took him a while to learn how to take these screens off. He takes a hot plate and sets the phone on it, loosens it up followed by a heat gun. Then he uses waterproof playing cards and alcohol to detach the amoled. No way does it just pop off using picks unless it's been removed before. My amoled was glued solid to the frame. Just my 2 cents but if I could do it over again I would attempt this type of repair without more experience.

Thank you for the great tutorial! I replaced the port, it's charging now. However the bottom part of the touch screen is non-responsive now. Only the very top would respond to touch. I didn't rip or break anything. Any tips on how to fix this?
@GoCellPhoneRepair

That's really strange. I would suspect a damaged flex cable for the digitizer. If you can, take a look at it under a magnifier. A slight nick might leave you with only partial functionality.
