Gallien-Krueger LEGACY 800 & 212 NEO CAB : Overview & Thoughts 

My dream stack!

I purchased that head and a 112 neo cab about a year ago. I can imagine the 212 would be intense. I usually play my 59 P bass or a parts P bass with a Aguilar 60's era pup and flats on both. With the 112 it kicks serious ass even in a six piece band. What I do is use the OD with just a little bit of distortion, the bump switch on, bass and low mid flat and mid high and treble backed off some. The trim at about 3 o'clock and master at about 11 o'clock. This past weekend we played at one of the better live venues in Memphis which I have played with various bass and amp combinations. The very experienced sound man said my sound was so round and tight he could not stop raving about it. I have a Markbass 800 which is a great head for clean tone but I think GK is better. Rave on.

I was a longtime fan of SWR and had a couple of them but unfortunately now they have stopped making amps . GK would probably be my go-to today if i was looking for something new based on they're track record and reliability to constantly pump out never ending great bass tones .

I bought this head a couple of years ago. I was indecisive about whether to go for the Fusion version or the Legacy. The Fusion indeed has that softer tone, but for some reason, the lamp in the preamp discouraged me, considering it could fall out during gigs, and tubes are easily breakable. On the other hand, the Fusion 500 was the same price as the Legacy 800, and a more powerful amp means more headroom. Also, there are too many options on the Fusion amp that I don't see the purpose of on the live stage, so I had no dilemma about the purchase. The Legacy pairs easily with my old 1001RB MK1, perhaps one of the best I've tried in the Class D amplifier category. Before that, I had a MarkBass that sounded great in the room, but I never quite managed to get it right on stage. Also, the DI output on any GK amplifier has the cleanest signal, so I wholeheartedly believe you when you say that the sound engineer is satisfied. Congratulations on your purchase, I think you'll be pleased in the years to come. :)

I’ve got a Legacy800 112 combo. I’ve paired it with a Vanderkley MNT110 as an extension cab. Absolutely killer. Loud AF. 99% of the time it’s set flat with Bump engaged. I’m a dyed in the wool RB series fan but as an old timer I’m so grateful for the Legacy combo - only 32lbs. The only thing I’d say against is that the Drive is a bit too subtle 😎

Congratulations bro ! GK amps are real workhorses. I can't tell you how many rehearsal studios i played at that had a GK head in the rooms . They take a real beating night after night and never die . GK's are like cockroaches they'll probably be here long after us and still be working LOL 🤣

i am intrigued to know if this would pair well with upright bass - ive ordered the 212NEO cab (800@4ohms) & am considering the legacy 800 GK amp head (over the fusion S) as it seems to be a more modern version of the RB line.

Have you had the GK 700 rbii and if so how do you compare it to the legacy 800..

GK build quality isn’t great in my opinion. I got a new legacy and it was so noisy. Nasty hiss sound, it’s going back next week.
