Hi everyone, I uploaded this video on behalf of Mark Kennedy in 2014. I no longer have access to this account. Unfortunately Mark has now passed. All I can say is when I knew him he was a gentleman and helped erect the famine memorial in Galway city in recent times. I am privileged to have known him regardless of what some people say. I don't know what he was like in previous year but for as long as I knew him he was kind. Mark I will see you soon. God bless.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this (sad but strong ) beauty ❤ After the Berlin Wall came down, Galway was my first love; not west- germany…. I was 21 and started my very first days of busking in the shopping street. But first, I had to get brave enough for this with a few pint’s of lager and beautiful musicians support in the cozy walls of Monroe’s pup…. Sleeping on a old forgotten fishing trawler near Spanish Arc….and met a real Galway gilrl …..A few faces I just recognize in this video….after thirty years now….😢 good bless you and all Irish souls ✨🙏🍺🧹 lake of constance / germany

I knew Mark Kennedy and he was a bum, an alcoholic, a sponger, a trouble maker, a slanderer and a waster who refused to work for many years. He lived for free off state welfare and wasted his money on drink and drugs and going around whinging, complaining and backbiting. He deserted his own wife and children when they were young. He and his bums should have gone out and worked and paid their taxes like other people. Mark Kennedy and his fellow bums and winos in this video were and are a disgrace and have ruined the good name of Galway city.

Looking for a Djembe player called Andy Clarke from Belfast. He played Djembe drum in Galway in the 90’s . He helped me get a room and gave me money when I was stone broke. I would like to repay his kindness if anyone knows where he is now. Thank you! 🙏

Wow. This was before my time but a fantastic preservation of Galway in the 90s. It feels quite different now, for both good and bad. It seems to me that characters such as depicted here would find it harder to survive in Galway nowadays. We don't have such an interesting assortment of buskers either. Not as much character in the city.

Does anyone remember Mick Duffy from Liverpool? He used to busk with his banjo around Galway at the time. Many years ago I used to live in a night shelter in Galway, as a young man I stayed in a lot of night shelters. I was learning the banjo at the time and I used to busk, this video was shot around the time, some of the guys in the video used to scare me but at the same time I felt sorry for them. Many of them, like me, had been victims of systematic abuse. There was no effort made at the Fairgreen night shelter to help those with psychiatric problems, I have since been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. The night shelter was next to an slaughter house, in the morning we woke up to the sound of pigs screaming.
