What ruins our enjoyment of things is something called expectations- it ruins relationships, and ruins events so instead of enjoying a moment we expect this other person to be a certain way or we expect a specific outcome, and if we don’t get it, it ruins our enjoyment of that person or that moment drop your expectations enjoy the time you have simply do your best accept the results

Very good video. It's interesting that your grief at losing that tournament was caused more by the way the other guy beat you and by missing out on winning the entire tournament than by the money you could have won. I always assumed that 'addictive gambling' was driven totally by money rather than competitiveness or 'status'. Either way, you deserve a lot of credit for being honest about how you felt at the time. We've all felt that empty deflated feeling at some point. Showing your emotional vulnerability in this way shows you to be a strong character. Good luck to you.

I literally just lost £700 this morning right after landing my dream job which ironically is in gambling prevention. What the f is wrong with me? It's like nothing will ever make me happy and I'm stuck with this illness despite how good or bad life gets. If that's true, doesn't it make you question the reason for living if you feel doomed either way? Yes I know I'm in control and I can stop in theory but why am I not just stopping? 15 years of the same cycle is driving me insane. I'm not even bothered that I lost the money this morning. I'm bothered that I caved again when I had ZERO reason to. I'm fukked

The way I see it gambling is an easy escape from the real world. Money doesn’t feel real in casino. I’ve gambled my entire monthly salary on 1 bet. Imagine that? Feeling comfortable enough to place 160 hours of your hard working time in 1 stupid bet. Let’s face it some of these casino games are fun and sometimes sweating sports games is just as fun. That bump of dopamine you get from a winning bet has been described as similar to a bump to cocaine. Many times were aren’t concerned with the money won or lost. It’s chasing those crests and throughs that keep us in the game. Recovering from a gambling addiction is very similar to recovering from a heavy drug addiction. There’s nothing wrong with you awareness is the first step

If you’re a gambling addict such as with BJ and slots then isn’t poker a great substitute as it takes a level of skill and there is a chance you can be profitable over a long period of time?
@DerekBearzi
@DerekBearzi Год назад
Correct. The problem for me was that poker was the gateway game which got me into roulette, blackjack and the other casino games. And even though I did moderately well in poker, I'm still addicted to the rush of anything gambling related. ☹

You're actually more likely to succeed as a blackjack card counter than you are as a professional poker player. With the advent of all the poker training websites and the collapse of the poker boom you're likely going to start encountering professional grinders as low as 2/5.

@@2011bluemanNo way . Card counting is D.O.A. Casinos don’t allow anyone to beat them . At least in poker the house doesn’t care who wins since they’re guaranteed to make money from the rake . So you have some chance making money playing poker , but zero playing any house game .

This one time I tried getting a cash advance with my credit card and it got declined so I went outside to call my bank and it was a bot that was getting some information before transferring me to a real person. She sounded like Siri, and at one point into the call her voice got demonically deep and I couldn’t understand what happened I still don’t. I still think about that day and wonder if I was hallucinating. Half of me says I was hallucinating because I have no other explanation but the other half of me knows what I experienced was real. Been gambling 50+ years. I estimate that I’ve put over 20 million on mostly BJ and craps bets over the years. I stick to games with a house edge of 1% or less. Lost just under 300k and had a blast doing it. Got tons of comps and free play to lighten the loss. Never played money I couldn’t afford to lose. My gambling mentality has allowed him me to make iinvestments that other more conservative folks may have missed. Self control and discipline are crucial to enjoy the gambling life.
