Glad I found your channel. I like that people still fix things even tho we live in an era where everything is made to be thrown out and replaced. hopefully retro gaming systems will still be around in 50+ years. I'm holding onto my atari 2600 and all the games for as long as I can.

OH YEAH BUDDY.... I'm only 13 minutes in but I had to stop and comment. Recently I got some soldering stuff giving to me from an estate sale where a fellow past away and in the box was a de-soldering gun. I had no clue what it was or how it worked ( Just got it a few days ago so haven't gotten around to google yet ) but now seeing you use yours, I'm totally excited to use it and will keep it. I was going to sell it all but I did take some electronics stuff in school in the early 80's so I'm pretty much okay to tackle the sound problem I have with my gameboy because it's doing the exact same thing... Sound only with headphones. Okay now back to the show..

Thank you for the information. My old Gameboy has gone silent and I imagine this is the issue as I had left batteries in the back that eroded over the course of a year or two. 😅 I'll have to bust out the soldering gear and give it a good old college try! 🤘

I have a question: if the jack is faulty after the cleanup, does this mean that the speaker won't work, even though the jack was cleaned and resoldered?
@1988Mauritz
@1988Mauritz 3 года назад
would it be worth getting one of those cheap ultra sonic cleaners for stuff like that just to be sure with parts that you cant really open all the way i fixed my dmg the same way before but after about a year or 2 it got stuck again and im forced to use headphones to get the switch "unstuck" again
@neyensb
@neyensb 3 года назад
Isn't it easier to check/fix the speaker first? Or is there a way to see whether it is the headphonejack vs speaker that is defective?
@RetroRepairs
@RetroRepairs 3 года назад
If you've got a replacement speaker, then yes it's a real easy fix. but if you don't have a replacement part, the headphone can be repaired without replacement. Based on the battery leak, I felt confident that the headphone jack was the problem.

@RetroRepairs

I was not able to remove the headphone jack and ended completely destroying a sound board. I smeared the whole thing in flux, and while desoldering i tried to pry away those little metal endings. Nope, nothing, didn't even bulge. Need to learn :))

Hello. I have a small question: Is there any possibility to repair horizontal lines on an DMG. I have one and i would like to keep the original display on that. And if so, can you show a method of doing that? That would be so awesome. Best regards from Germany, Stan
@RetroRepairs
@RetroRepairs 3 года назад
Yes, it's possible but much more difficult. There is a ribbon connector behind the screen that handles the horizontal lines, but you need to desolder the display to access it. I haven't come across one yet
@SozusagenStan
@SozusagenStan 3 года назад
@@RetroRepairs Thank you for your answer. Is there a possibility, that the contacts has the same problem as the contacts for the vertical lines. I mean that you need to reheat on top of the display? I think they are not that easy to reheat, because the plastic will melt away. The ribbon-cable for the vertical lines can withstand some heat, but the right side of the display can't. Am i right?
