When the kid wakes up and starts crying, which often happens unexpectedly (because kids are not robots with timers), you need to PAUSE the game and take care of the situation. This is what situational disability means. Also, how dare you tell others they shouldn't be parents, when you are such an immature person who is obviously unable to take care of his own health, let alone kids! She didn't say kids are a disability, she was referring to elder ring it's difficultly(that people won't stop bitching) and things that can cause you to be setback in a game that can't pause and requires you to understand movesets by dying over and over.
As she said, there are physical disabilities and "situational ones". As a father of a 3yr old I love mine more than anything, but this also means always being ready to perform parent duties without any notice. So when I'm balls deep into that Elden Beast fight for the 20th time and it finally looks like I have a chance of beating him ... @dermywermy080 no it doesn't, there's convoluted ways to do it with different menus. I think on PS5 there may be a way to do it with the share button on the controller. There is no dedicated pause button or menu. In regards to the child thing, I agree that if you have a kid that you're currently watching, then you should be focused on the kid, not a game. I think that was a bad example she used to get her main point across, which I believe is simply the idea that if something that needs your immediate attention pops up, you shouldn't have to risk dying and losing all your runes in game because of something happening outside of your control irl
@@kyleschneider1718there is a pause system though, every time you reach a bonfire/site of grace the game pauses. Not having a dedicated pause system is a part of the games appeal. It is supposed to be challenging.
@dermywermy080 see that doesn't count as a pause, thats just a safe area. Having a dedicated pause button/menu wouldn't lessen the difficulty at all. If it does, I'd need an example, but I can't think of a good one. If you're 1 hp, and an enemy is swinging at you, then you pause, and un pause, you still die. If you pause to use an item, the animation still needs to play, so you'd still get hit. And if you have to pause, and quit the game, it would put you right back in the same spot anyways.

Microsoft and other developers go through what they call temporary disability. I think the confusion is that this term doesn't always mean a physical disability. Check out Phillip DeFranco's show today where he covers how the gaming industry uses the terms she uses. The issue is that she's clearly using industry terms related to accessibility in gaming. I'd also love to watch 99% of gamers do the end DLC boss battle without using some OP/game breaking build. Actually dodging the final boss and healing between getting beat sideways across the map is insane. You get a few mistakes in a 3-5 minute fight. Those mistakes better not be major and they better not be close together or you're toast.

Gaming is a large industry. There are many types of games for people of all walks of life and interests. I think the more nuanced response to her is that there are some games that are purposely challenging. Removing the challenge fundamentally changes the game. If you all players the ability to pause or lower difficulty in a Soulsbourne game, you fundamentally change the game. The bosses in Elden Ring are meant to challenge you. They're meant to push the limits on what you think you can do.
