Maybe he could have a pet wolf with a revolver in its mouth that follows him around and when you right click the wolf shoots in that direction and can hit an enemy.
Look into how Nuclear Throne does attack animations It simply teleports the sword from one side of the player to the other while creating a separate slash object which slowly dissipates I’ve used this technique in my current roguelike and it works amazingly well
I feel like the older model could still work fine if you made him look more closely to a blob around the face area and just had a bigger emphasis around the face
honestly i really like the cartoony style of the other one, hes definitly less detailed and conveying those details will be harder but i liked the frantic sticky style

Keep up the great work. Also what if for a 2 hit floating sword combo, you swing it overhead for the first hit, and for the second attack the sword flings out and spins in a circle.
please try godot. its a life saver. yes i was once like you, pretty lazy and didnt want to learn game development. but godot and lua is your friend!!! just work with them for a couples hours for like 4 days and you can make a simple arcade game.
First thing I want to mention is that the new character design looks infinity better than the previous design. I'm getting the vibe that you have no clue what to make his face look like considering you covered almost all of it up despite the fact that you said you prefer it that way. Based off of looking at this new design, what if you made his entire head a black skull? I don't really have much to say about the animations because you summed it up in the video and said you would work on it. In terms of the juicey gameplay feedback, I still haven't played the game yet so I got nothing to say on that.
for the attack, maybe the guy can have a sword with a hilt that can fire bullets, like with one key he swings the sword, but with another her turns the sword on it’s side and it fires.
I really like that gun mode and sword mode idea, you can build a boss around that too (like it can only be attacked by a sword after it does a certain move and it only does that move if you use the gun on some moving targets it has or something, maybe it has its own safe lil cage thing and only comes out when you beat its flying goons that are hard to hit with a sword and it returns to its cage once its goons return, maybe its some kind of Canary or bird like that, Maybe a road-runner so it has a reason why it doesn't fly and its goons are canaries)
Yeah, I think the idea could really add something to the gameplay that I didn't intend to be a feature, I'll have to see what I can do with it, good ideas tho, appreciate it.
If you kept the old design you could have made him shoot from his head😂rn I guess you can do what you said the normal character with a gun and then he can transform to a faster with more moves character but it can only use Melee you can even make the Melee like "soul killing sowrd" and make it do more damage
if ure sticking with the cowboy theme, then a lasso might be a good weapon. u can lasso loot / drop items (if u hv those in ur game) and use it to smack the boss like its a whip
What if you just rotate the image angle of the sword for a basic swing attack? Again what if you change the image angle to make the sword point ahead of him to then follow up with a stabbing action?
The game is looking really cool so far! I feel like some of the pixel art could be changed a bit and the colors are a bit gray but It looks fine. I also really like the dragging his weapon on the ground that looks very cool and I think it could work given a bit of time.
How about he summons floating revolvers, like three of en that have a small range. As for a downward attack, he can use those spikes on cowboy boots as a saw. For an up attack, I'm unsure
I think maybe making the sword smaller would help it feel more fluid, as of now its size makes it look like it'll have slow, heavy attacks instead of the much faster attacks you're going for Also is the main characters name Lisa yet? It's a fitting name imo
Attack Idea: -He could be hiding his knife all time so whenever you tap on attack button. Your character just basically swing their hand fast enough and then he just hid his knife again. -he has no weapon but he can kick? But he can also pick up item that he could use as a weapon. Knife, gun, sword, plank.......box? -He use gun which only have 5 bullet which the bullet comes from killing enemy? If he got no bullet... His alternative is knife Villain: -Tumbleweed monster... The tumbleweed in the background is actually spying on you.. and finally on one other level..he reveal to be a monster... -Cactus monster -The cigarettes character you made was a villain until you defeat him and he become ally and playable characters
I really like the sword form and gun form idea, maybe he doesn’t start out with the sword form or some cutscene where his head is knocked off sending him into this sword form then the player gains the ability, I don’t know I’m not the dev but I think it’s a solid idea
If you wanna keep the original attacks, I think maybe using his attack for melee attacks could be fun. But because that could decrease his mysterious look a bit, he actually has another hat under that. Or he secretly has a dagger under his hat and pulls that out. Might be a less confusing option if the animations are clear enough. Because the character taking his hat off and then still having the hat on might be confusing. Unless the hat maybe has another color? Or maybe just give him a lasso. Thats prob clearer animation and storywise compared to the other 2 options. Although the lasso could also be some sort of morning star, long nunchucks or whatever.
@@Liskyy Currently the only way to really support the game is through either joining the channel, or just watching my videos, those are basically my only revenue streams. I don't really have an interest in starting a kickstarter rn cause I don't want to end up failing to reach expectations, as so many kickstarters do.

A bit late to this but the first thought was to just have him sheathe and unsheathe his sword. The sword wouldn't be visible until the attack and then disappear again

The devil may cry ideas you said would be cool (demon form, giant sword) also make a cutscene that he gets stabbed by his sword but instead of dying he awakens his demon form, like the lore
Maybe make the first attack a quick overhead swing? Just to get the sword in front for further combos? (Like that animation with quick thrusts you showed). No idea how hard that'd be to animate/how slow the animation would have to be therefore disturbing the flow?
You could add a leveling up system where you can upgrade your character to get special attacks and or abilities, that way everyone can play the game differently. Possibly could get these abilities from a western themed store?
I always tend to make my main characters cute and small. It makes it easier for the players to get attached to them, so as far as audience feedback goes, at least one dude likes the new design. As for animations with floating hands, most of my characters have floating hands like yours, but mainly use ranged weapons. Limited pixel count makes melee combat hard to pull off, so don't be too hard on yourself if you have a hard time making it. If you're not too attached to the melee combat, why not focus on ranged instead? Kinda like cuphead focuses on ranged and has melee on the side.
Maybe his base form has long range but weaker gun attacks but he has a special ability that gives him more armour and powerful melee attacks? Just a thought, love the vids btw keep up the great work😁
for the walk animation you should do the shuffle thing that the terraria sprites do. it’s easy to animate and looks good and i’m 99.9% sure it will look good on your character sprite cause the legs are kind like legs yk
Give him a really big machete for normal melee atacks and a shotgun on his back for heavy attacks. If you feel overwhelmed trying to figure animations, watch for GDC talks on youtube about animation combat animation.
here is a goofy little Idea for a boss. You should make a large spider boss, who is wanted due to tax fraud because its a big spider who just chose to nest in a cave randomly. Some of his attacks could be: spider web ( falls from sky and slows you down ), There could be a bunch of spider eggs nearly fall on you and baby spiders can come out to attack you. also you encouraged to work on a game That I'm making I can tell you about it in the future.
The floating sword idea is awesome, but I think the issue was the size of the sword. The animations looked goofy because his sword was too big. Dark Souls has ultra great swords that look that big but the swings for them are insanely slow, so keeping the length and making it thinner can be one option or just making it a different style of sword, cutlass claymore swihander Katana rapier, there are more swords than just big block of iron. The perfect swords for weird swings that you were describing would be Chinese hook blades, but that might be the hardest thing to animate in the world so I wouldn't recommend it. For honor might have some good weapon attack reference you can use to try and spark ideas of different ways to swing swords. If the floating sword just really doesn't work with any style of weapon then giving him something really over the top and goofy could be the way to go, since (to what little I've seen) the game looks almost like it's a goofy world taking itself too seriously. Give him fists and shoot anime energy forwards or every attack is a kick because his legs are built different. Personally with the current model of the guy, the 2 best weapons I can think of is a whip or his hat. A whip can have simple animations like in Terraria, or it can have different upgrades further into the game. An upgrade for more damage at the tip, do thrusting instead of swing, have a sort of weird grapple attack. The hat would work as the weird psychic weapon you were describing, where the hat flies forward but is attached to a chain so it is limited by range for "lore reasons" the hat style to make it a weapon could be anything from mortal kombat Kung Lao, or Jojo part 1 speedwagon introduction, or the bullets connected to the hats could point forward and fire a short range shotgun spread shot. You chuld make it one entety and yust add like a little bit of a sword peaking under the jacket(maybe even tuching the ground) then make him swing the sword from the ground up
I think it would be cool If you gave him 2 revolvers but they’re like loony toons guns where they have a big muzzle flash that’s about melee range and then he fires an actual bullet or bullets as one of his supers you have to use the meter for

maybe you can have the old design of the main character like a costume I really like it kind of also I like the venom idea maybe like you can have a pet that launches onto you and transforms you to the venom version idk these are just some of my ideas.
Maybe you could make a weapon as a reward for defeating 12 string like a bango that shoots souls when you play it or smth idk OR you could do a weapon shop so you can buy a new weapon for every bounty you collect
That old cowboy looked like a cow stick ngl. Anyways that game designer from last time here. At this point in time I would say that you really shouldn't worry about the player carecter as all that is very open to change. I (personally suggest) that you start work on more levels or a hub world. Maybe like a town where you can take quests which could act like a level selector or maybe go to the pub and buy weapons from a dealer. Whatever tickles you bacon. So far I love the feel of the game and its incredible. I hope you can get this project done and release it on steam or what not. Aight bye
You should have his normal form prioritize movement and his second form prioritize attacking. Like the main form has sliding and air rolling, but the second form can have an air attack like a dive and some dodging capabilities maybe.
