That's what I thought too, not much in got is useless, most scenes come of use later on in the show like Walder Frey will prob play a part later (killed I hope), Sam stealing a valyrian sword? Definitely has to serve a purpose for the future, maybe he'll give it to a warrior to help fight off the white walkers? I feel like Margery is planning something behind all this she's not actually converted, Arya (hopefully) is going to escape the waif and sail back to westeros and she'll definitely kill someone prob from her list and meet an old friend (don't wanna spoil who) & Danny? Oh man I know people are bored of her but I think this time she's actually going to sail to westeros with Yara and Theon's fleet and take her army and dragons with her.

How is it a filler episode? They're clearly setting events up for future episodes. Filler episodes are inconsequential. This one was not.

Nowadays, episodes without shock, awe, death... filler. This episode had Coldjen, the crown uniting wth the faith (kingsguard with the faith symbol armor), Sam getting another Valerian steel weapon, Jaime removed from kingsguard and sent to river lands (possibly setting up another book storyline), Arya turning her back on her final mission/test and retrieving needle for the inventible showdown with the waif, Dani becoming a dragon rider... yeah, that was filler.

I suppose those holes provide some sort of gas to make sure the flames keep burning? Not sure but that's the first thing that pops in to my mind.
