Tramaine318 I noticed that. I can't work out if holding the dagger he sensed something forboding about it and will effect himself or he saw what Ayra will do with it - an sacrifice or an execution? But it was definitely a look that says I'll see that dagger again and I felt he didn't want to let it go.

I think it was Littlefinger who sent the assassin,after all,he blamed the Tyrion. He even said "Why would i send an assassin with my own belonging that will connect it to me" - thats such a Littlefinger thing to say,if he sent the assassin..
@brendonmartin1658
@brendonmartin1658 7 лет назад
TheMonkeyBusiness right? I've always thought it was common knowledge for people paying attention that it was Littlefinger? Especially with him admitting chaos is a ladder. He builds up all this fighting between the Starks and Lannisters and then uses that for his own gain
@thefub4226

TheMonkeyBusiness It was either him or Cersei. Although Tyrions the one that talks about why he wouldnt send an assassin with his own dagger.

Remember, the dagger was won by Tyrion on a bet from littlefinger during a tourney. Littlefinger stole it back and paid the cutthroat with it to frame Tyrion.

TheMonkeyBusiness It was Joffrey. In the books both Tyrion and Jaimie independently conclude that it was likely Joffrey. He was trying to impress King Robert by putting the boy out of his misery.

what a bullshit, Robert would have smashed Joffrey to the ground if he would do such a thing to a child of his best friend and at that moment of his hand; so of course it was Cersei, you are right J.Sullivan Jamie makes no sense because he is no man hiring an assassin
@diana9800
@diana9800 7 лет назад
"He ought to have seen it long ago. Jaime would never send another man to do his killing, and Cersei was too cunning to use a knife that could be traced back to her, but Joff, arrogant vicious stupid little wretch that he was... He remembered a cold morning when he’d climbed down the steep exterior steps from Winterfell’s library to find Prince Joffrey jesting with the Hound about killing wolves. Send a dog to kill a wolf, he said. Even Joffrey was not so foolish as to command Sandor Clegane to slay a son of Eddard Stark, however; the Hound would have gone to Cersei. Instead the boy found his catspaw among the unsavory lot of freeriders, merchants, and camp followers who’d attached themselves to the king’s party as they made their way north. " Tyrion's explanation from the books

Bran has the same warging powers as the kid who sacrificed himself to let Bran get to the old man raven at the tree, Brans powers of warging isnt as atuned to predicting events as that kid though, remember the kid was bale to tell the rogue Crow who raped the Crastor daughters, that that man was going to die and be burned (later in that ep the man was killed by Jon and the Crastor women set their house alight to burn away their place of captivity, only the rogue crows body was coincidently still inside when it happened), and again Bran has warging powersPLUS the powers of the Raven

Bran gave her the dagger to kill Cersei. Bran knows Cersei sent the assassin to kill him and wants to be poetic and have Arya use it on her.. BET! And they had Arya spar with Brienne so we could see how easily she can kill large opponents.. She's gonna kill The Mountain when she goes to assassinate Cersei.
@RetroVold
@RetroVold 7 лет назад
There was that look on Bran's face when he gave the dagger to Arya, which made me think of something like this. But I think it will be for Cersei as well, or at least intended. There is still that bit of theory with Jamie killing Cersei. So, we'll see.

Knowing how GOT has been so poetic with deaths, I wouldn't be surprised if Baelish gets death by ladder fall or we see Arya behind him with the dagger like Littlefinger was behind Ned. You don't quote "chaos is a ladder" on Littlefinger like that unless you know some shit.
@lisdraconis2212

Arya stand up in the tower were Cercei and Jamie once had their insesting moment. Littlefinger standing on a ladder at the window were Bran once was cought. Arya: There is only one person I love... Littlefinger: (Smiling his dirty smile at her knowing she is confessing her weakness to him.) Arya: No One! (Pushing him of the Ladder were he stood and falling into death.

But Bran isn't playing LF's game. There is no inclination to reciprocate because there is no perception of LF trying to play a game and use him. His quote is a knee-jerk reaction to hearing LF say the word chaos and Bran linking it with something he has seen LF say from a private conversation that came in a vision to Bran. Like word association.

Why did Joffrey made the whores hit each other an then he kills them? Why is he so opsessed with Sansa getting hit and why was he such a cunt every time? He was a boy who was amused when others were in pain. Maybe he was angry because Tyrion hit him for not showing his condolinces to the Starks. And that anger he turned against Bran later. Maybe Bran already knows who send the Assassin. ;)

Yanie I completely agree with you. Little Finger gained Ned Starks trust and also is a trust worthy person in the kings court. All he had to do was wait on the sidelines and see who tipped the scales. When he saw it was Cersi, he turned on Ned. Little Finger hired the assassin and The Three Eyed Raven Bran knows it too.
@diannebaruela8915
@diannebaruela8915 7 лет назад
Rene Vinet agree! Maybe bran knows the truth when he said chaos is a ladder to littlefinger. And LF thinks that he can manipulate him. One wrong thing that LF did was to give catspaw to bran bec i think it will cause his death soon. Foreshadow

Cat's paw suits Arya. As an assassin she's fast with quiet feet and wouldn't let the person know when she sneaks up on them and before they know what happened they'd be standing with a throat slit with none other than Cat's paw. And not only the name but also that she's better with small and light weapons to go in flow with her quick swift style of killing instead of big valyrian swords.

Child of Persia it has a single edge with what looks like a reasonably long "false edge." Not really a true cutting surface, it assists with easier thrusts since a dagger doesn't have much mass for penetration purposes.
@Duke_of_Lorraine

Problem is, you'd have to hold it with the blade to use the hilt as a weapon. And it has been established that it's a little bit less safe when doing that with valyrian steel.

Joffrey didn't give a rats ass about his father. Also killing his best friend's son wouldn't have impressed Robert at all. Cersei hired the assassin. I'm not sure how Cersei will die. What about the red stone in the dagger? Could that be a ruby? If so does it have anything to do with the lord of light having the power of the fire God to kill the nights king? I know Rhaegar use to decorate his belongings with rubies but what if this one has a connection to something much bigger?

Bran giving the dagger to Arya is HUGELY significant. Consider the following things. The Night King (from here on NK) is the only character who can see and even touch Bran in his visions. The NK can control the ravens as Bran does. The NK could have struck and killed Bran in his vision but instead only grabbed his arm. The original 3 Eyed Raven warned Bran that he can get sucked into the past and stay there if he stayed too long. Bran can walk in his visions but is also part of proceedings as evidenced by Hodor and young Ned hearing Bran's voice. The NK made a point of killing the original 3 Eyed Raven personally and apparently with some relish. The Children of the Forest thought they could control the White Walker they created but they could not. So here's the theory. Bran goes back and stays too long among the Children of the Forest and becomes part of proceedings. They create the NK, and the human they do it to is Bran. Bran IS the Night King. They thought they were creating a White Walker from a human but they were in fact creating one from th 3 Eyed Raven, that's why he is far more powerful than they anticipated and becomes a threat to them. That's why he took revenge on the original 3 Eyed Raven who must have known but did not tell him, leaving him to endure a living hell. He now has Bran's powers, but having honed them for centuries cannot only control animals but even the dead. Bran gives the dagger to Arya because he knows she will need it to kill him.

or atleast we hope I am not sure they will ever explain the secrets of Valyrian Steel, personally I like that it is lost forever why because that is reality there are many secrets in ancient civilization that didn't get passed down because the records were burn or lost or not recorded, there is a tragedy to something so precious being lost forever that no matter how advanced we get there are somethings in the past no knowledge can recreate.

Unless there were weirwoods in Valyria then no. The show plays fast and loose with Bran's abilities and how they work, but in the books, greensight is the ability to see into the future through dreams (although, in the show Jojen had seizures) and greenseers can see into the past by looking through the eyes of weirwoods - because of their longevity - while touching them. You can't see into the past of places that did not have weirwoods; the trees needed to be there, one, and two they needed to have faces carved into them so they'd have eyes to see and bear witness. The show did demonstrate that when Bran witnessed past events in his training with the Three Eyed Raven (which I don't think the show ever revealed was a Targaryen) that he always touched the roots of the weirwood. He also had to do so to "download" the knowledge from the Three Eyed Raven.

I like the idea of it originally belonging to Visenya. Arya has always had two heroines that she tries to emulate, Nymeria and Visenya. Her direwolf's name is Nymeria (and I do think we'll see her again in season 8), and if the dagger was Visenya's, it would be the perfect match for Arya. If you think about it, Arya could be the next legendary female warrior/strategist after Visenya and Nymeria, especially in the context of the great war

Is no one thinking Littlefinger hired the cat's paw knowing the chaos it would cause and that it would make it look like Joffrey or one of the Lannister did it. Littlefinger surely knew about Jaime and Cersei so he would be able to know that hiring the assassin would make it look like they did it.

@seblikesrasta
@seblikesrasta 7 лет назад
John P We already know that the dagger did belong to Littlefinger but he lost it to Tyrion in a gambling match, or so he said. However Littlefinger wouldn't ever gamble, and that dagger is priceless. I think he gave it to Joffrey and just like with Sweet Robin he influenced him to hire the catspaw after Joff's overhearing Robert's verdict on Bran's condition. If the assassin failed or succeeded, Tyrion would be implicated either way and Joffrey would win. Joff would then in his own sociopathic way have impressed daddy by carrying out a violent mercy on poor Bran.

I think Bran knows something very important about that dagger, and he gave it to Arya because he also knows about Arya's combat abilities. I agree with you, Joffrey sending some nobody with such a valuable dagger to assassinate a crippled kid sounds extremely odd and out of character. Joffrey always attacked those he hated directly, he was blunt and immature, the type of guy who brags about the things he did. Murdering Bran was too shady imo.

+Emergency Awesome What if it's as old as Dark Sister and Blackfyre? Aegon had Blackfyre, while Visenya carried Dark Sister. This left Rhaenys without a Valyrian blade. Granted she wasn't really a fighter, but.. couldn't she have had a dagger nonetheless?..
@emergencyawesome
@emergencyawesome 7 лет назад
The show likes to set up things that have relevance to story they've already teased. So I don't think the blade is older than Aegon's Conquest. So, it's totally possible it belonged to one of the sister-wives 🖐
@tver
@tver 7 лет назад
I'm thinking the same. Besides Aegon's conquest has been the most referenced part of Targaryen history in the show. Also the dagger is rather ornamental, almost like a fashion statement. Perfect for a woman who is less a fighter and more a flirt. Totally the opposite of Arya though. ;)
@tver
@tver 7 лет назад
And who knows, it might even play a part in the books: Perhaps it was the reason why Aegon I flew back to Dragonstone after recieving Meraxes skull and a letter from Deria Martell. This letter perhaps told that Rhaenys was secretly alive and well and by revealing the storage location of the dagger still at Dragonstone, Aegon got the proof to be convinced his thought-to-be dead sister-wive was still alive, but still kept in Dorne as an insurance policy.

Probably, but it might've been Rhaenys' originally, which might explain it being old enough to be in Sam's book and be ornamented with dragonglass (from dragonstone). Also Rhaegar and Rhaenys are male/female versions of the same name, so there's that. I don't think it'll have a special role vs. the Night King though. It's just one of multiple existing Valyrian steel blades. I think the Night King might require something made a bit differently..
@stoned_wolf
@stoned_wolf 7 лет назад
I'm betting the children somehow made it after they were like "Oh shit we made this all powerful night king, but neither dragon glass nor valerian steel will kill him alone, here first men, take this weapon as a token of our peace and help us kill our monster."

Josh Aldrich no, not at all possible. They didnt have valyrian steel back then at all, it wasnt even created by the valyrians at that point because they were still sheep herders. Yes, a regular dagger could have easily done the job, rather than one worth a castle. The main explanation is that the dagger was Robert's. He most likely took it off Rhaegar when he killed him. If it had been with the King's things, Tywin would've snagged it. Joffrey overheard Robert say that death would be a kindness for Bran instead of living life as a cripple. Joffrey stole the dagger and hired an assassin to use it to kill Bran. But, what's puzzling is why didn't the assassin just take off with the dagger. It would've been worth way more than he would've been paid to kill Bran. It's not like they are trustworthy men. lol

I just re-listened to the chapter where Catelyn interviews Jaime in the dungeons at the end of ACoK. According to Jaime, at the tourney on Joffreys when Loras Tyrell unhorsed Jaime , the dagger "changed hands" and Robert showed him the daggerto salt his wounds. Giving credit to the theory that Joffrey took it from his "father's" weapons and gave it to the catspaw to open Brans throat. This and Tyrion pretty much confirms it through his musings. Though in the show Littlefinger could have totally sent it to incite tensions between the Starks and Lannisters.

I can't see Joffrey "hiring " an assassin. He's such a DB that he'd think it an honor to do the Crown Prince a service by killing a boy. (2) Joffrey wouldn't know where to hire an assassin. (3) If he was in the North saying he wanted to hire an assassin to kill a Stark, I think that would get back to the Starks easily.
@jasperstead7107

Joffrey's the most likely candidate, its not Cersei as she thought she could coerce Bran into silence, its not Jaime either as he is one of the people who speculate on who did it, suggesting he didn't do it. It's not likely to be Little Finger either, as he lost the dagger to Robert. Joffrey is the only person who had motive and could have done it.

I don't think Brienne will get out of the North, as Sansa or Arya could argue with that fighting Walkers is part of her vow to protect them. Jaime will never fight them, but his sword will, wielded by anyone who's there. Arya probably will too, and Sam definitely. There are other swords. There's a guy in Old Town (where Sam is now) who has one, there's also someone in the Riverlands, and I think 2 in Essos. And get this, Euron Greyjoy's chest plate is made of Valyrian steel. Don't know what it changes, but he probably can't get stabbed through it. (that is, if the show kept what he had in the books).

@TaylorWhite
@TaylorWhite 7 лет назад
I don't think he intends for arya to use it on cersei as an act of revenge for him. He seems incredibly emotionally detached to everything that was Bran Stark, and the writers seem to have him take on the Three Eyed Raven role 100% so if he truly had died in the cave, as Meera said, he would no longer seek revenge on Cersei had she sent the assassin. I fully believe he knows Arya will use the dagger to kill Littlefinger for justice for him betraying their father. Bran doesn't really have much motive besides educating the world on the history of the past and helping guide everyone to a brighter future (or at least a future without the army of the dead at their back door).

Fabio Capitao she didn't mention a miscarriage. When she talked about the baby she lost she talked about him being a little guy with dark hair. She in essence described a baby that got sick if I remember right. I tend to think she was lying and just need an excuse to feel Catelyn out for what was going on so tried to seem sympathetic. it also doesn't make a lot of sense to me that Joffrey would try to kill bran. The more I think about it I just suspect littlefinger. originally I did not because he wasn't there but now I realize that there was something like over a week between Brans accident and the assassination attempt so Littlefinger had plenty of time to hire someone and send a raven or if he had a crony up in the north who had been sent up with Roberts group to spy for him.

Maybe Little finger is just the first, and Aryas list gets shorter and shorter, until one key moment she comes from the shadows and strikes.... If i were to guess, it would be cersi she kills at a key moment, possibly after they win the great war... or maybe Arya causes the loss of the war with this dagger..... Either way, this dagger has a biger role to play than just killing little finger!

My guess is that the Dagger is originally from Aegon or its from the ancient Valeria.

at 7:49 you can kind of make out the name of the dagger. Something with a Z but i can read where it says it is translated as Frozen Fire in valyrian.

I think the look Bran gave Ayra when he gave her the dagger is a huge signal that he has visioned Ayra with the dagger doing something critical in this battle, not just killing a main character but to end the war. (killing the Night King)

I believe the dagger may have belonged to Rhaeneys Targaryen Aegon's sister wife. As Aegon had Blackfyre and Viseyna had Darksister. Rhaeneys died in Dorne, where the dagger may have been lost and recovered later by Rhaegar when he went south with Lyanna Stark.

Or recovered by Nymeria the warrior Queen of Dorne.

RJ Tiger Nymeria lived hundreds of years before Aegon and his sisters, back when the Rhoynar fled from Essos.

Damn, you are correct. It could still have originally belonged to Nymeria. Like Jorah I think says in the books that he's even seen a Valyrian Steel Dorthaki Arrak or however the curved sword they wield is spelled.

Like if you’re here after season 8 episode 3, this is the dagger Arya used to kill the Night King. Bran knew Arya would kill the Night King, which is why he gave her the dagger in the same exact spot she killed the NK.

Ummm no. I don't think so. Bran was an innocent child when the assassin tried to kill him - no thoughts of the larger world at all, just climbing buildings and shocked to see his first beheading. Have you read the books?!
