The year is 2020. It has almost been 3 years since this video was uploaded, and there is STILL NO PART 2 wrapping this theory up to an end. Please Matpat, please give us Part 2 finally!!! Even if you dropped the theory because you couldn't get it to a satisfying conclusion, just give us what you had! PLEASE!!!!
Never gonna happen. But rejoice! MatPat has now released his 36TH FNAF video for your viewing pleasure! Seriously, this channel has just become the Matt and Scott show at this point.

“I don’t know why people don’t like 2 parters. It’ll only take a week for the next video to come out” >proceeds to not release part 2 This is *exactly* why.
Mattpat, it's 2021. Mass Effect Legendary Edition has just released. Now is the time to drop part 2 on us like it's as hot as something that steams in Cleveland!
@@ty738 he’s not dropping it because he got major hate for this video at the time, not because it was disproven (at the time of the videos making). It was years too late when discourse had already come and gone on top of other people already making far lengthier and better videos.
MatPat, indoctrinated by the reapers so that his theory can no longer be completed and prove them real. Just a theory...A uh CONSPIRACY THEORY!! Thanks for reading!
He probably realized this whole thing is bullshit and relies entirely on some idealist death of the author humbug, except the creators are alive and well and confirmed multiple times that the ending is meant to be taken at face value. There is no hidden meaning, the ending is just simply bad. Deal with it and leave it well enough alone.
The writing of this episode was probably outsourced to a third party, like many episodes on the channel are. Maybe something fell though and and the second part was unable to be produced.
Honestly? They could have squeezed in the ending by saying destroying the reapers ends the indoctrination and Shepard is alive. I’ll explain below. I watched AngryJoeShow talk about this theory but it’s an old 2012 video and he got to the point and said that everything was a hallucination (courtesy of the reapers) Shepard shooting Anderson was actually Shepard getting shot bc when Shep is sitting with Anderson, Shep is bleeding in the same spot where “Shepard” shot Anderson. Shep chooses destroy and the reapers are destroyed but Shep wouldn’t have survived the blow so why is that little clip of Shep (obviously being Shep) waking up in rubble even a thing? Well Shep was on Earth the whole time and not the citadel. But the only confusion here is how did Shepard destroy the reapers if Shep was only hallucinating all of it? Obviously nothing was solved if it was all in Sheps head. Joe even talked about it even said that Shep was covered in rubble and that the citadel shouldn’t be made of rubble like an earth building would but of special tech (I think is what he said). So my guess is that Shepard is just really, really lucky and survived that kind of blow, because it’s just SO CLEARLY OBVIOUS that that was Shepard waking up in the rubble. And considering Shep was brought up in Andromeda, it has to be the clear answer. Sorry this is super long. This theory is driving me crazy because of how accurate it is. Even the reapers are creeping me out.
the Beings of Light theory stuff is worth your time too, if you're still interested. This one has two parts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IUcHf-mCR4w.html
*people waiting 8 months for second part of the Mass Effect video* Meanwhile on the channel - 1574th FNAF video released. - Lootboxes are gambling. - Can Logan Paul win against KSI? Seriously MatPat? C'mon man...
@@thenukedgamer65 you really think devs wouldn't call a theory bs just so people would stop spreading it so a later advancement in a story continuing from where me3 left off would be, at least for some people be a big twist? As in, trying to keep something a secret for the benefit of the story. Like, come on. Of course they would.
Considering Mass Effect Legendary Edition is out and four years have passed since you released this video, would you please "pick up where you left off" as it were and make the second part please?
@@Craftato There is an article on Forbes where Bioware reps straight up say that the indoctrination theory is something entirely made up by fans. To quote the interview, "Go ahead, make mods and write fanfics about it, whatever floats your boat, but that was not the original intention or what we wrote"
Yep i only subscribed so i could know when part 2 comes out, pretty sure ill unsub again after it does. Could have at least said in the title this is only part 1.
How to Watch MatPat's Two-Parters: 1) Watch Part 1. 2) Find out at the end of the video that it's a two-parter. 3) Wait a week or two. 4) Check the uploads to see if Part 2 is out yet. 5) Be disappointed that it's not out. 6) Wait another week while frequently checking the uploads. 7) Be disappointed that it's still not out. 8) Go to Part 1's comment section and empathyze with all the complaints of Part 2 not being out yet. 9) Forget about Part 2 for a while. 10) Find Part 2 some time later while randomly browsing RU-vid. 11) Watch Part 2.
I'm at 1:26 and you say there is no final boss?!?! This is an outrage! Marauder Shields tried to protect us from the atrocity of that ending! R.I.P Marauder Shields. F
Marauder Shields's death will not be in vein. The reapers will destroy this entire wretched galaxy and consume all Pathetic Turians to create a new Reaper in honor of Marauder.
varnect203 A heavily mutated Illusive Man was originally planned to be the final boss, but that was scrapped as he was considered to be more of an intellectual foe than a physical one (think Joker at the end of Arkham Asylum).
CamPain ACAVYOS has a compilation that's pretty wicked and came out the same year 3 was released. If you want to see a full theory and not just a part one.
Submission for the Codex: it has now been 5 years since Matpat released his theory on indoctrination, still awaiting part 2 of his theory, I fear that day may never come to pass.
Guys it's 2020, the Reapers are definitely in close enough range to indoctrinate him into not telling us how mass effect was a lie, because they don't want us also knowing the outcome
Are you kidding me? Why would the creators deny that theory? If the end isn't a battle against indoctrination, then it's poorly written gibberish. And all of the evidence in support of indoctrination is there. In any case, it never matters what creators think their story is about. What matters is the meaning the story's consumers derive from it. If we want to believe the story is about indoctrination, and we can support that with what's in the story, then we're right. If the ending is about indoc, then the trilogy is a 15/10 masterpiece. If it's not, then the trilogy is a 6/10 hackjob.
Actually, as far as I was aware, the creators were purposefully not confirming or denying this theory simply leaving it up to the fans to decide which version they preferred.
Do a theory about why matpat makes a really interesting video, cuts it into two parts, than releases the second part like 3 years later. Also make that video a 2 parter.
Average Joe Bro We should be used to this by now. He makes it a multi part thing, forgets about it, and makes jokes about it in an attempt to be funny but just remind us of it and grate our nerves
It is May 26, 2020. Still no part two in sight. Ran out of food and water days ago. I have almost lost all sense of time. Mat and Steph did a Reddit meme review on GT Live, reacting to comments about the abundance of FNAF content with excuses about game releases being pushed back and having no new subject matter. Yet here we wait, patiently, hope slowly dwindling to despair. Have we been forgotten? Abandoned? Left to rot forever wondering what the conclusion may be? Will our wait be in vain? Will we ever be fulfilled? What has become of the world? Hopefully some giving soul will make a meme about how this has been neglected to call up the dredges of their memories of this theory to mind, then finally we may find answers.
MatPat, you HAVE to start putting "(part 1)" in your video titles. It feels so bad when you think it's a one-timer, and then it suddenly turns out to be a two-parter
If you all dont want to wait clevernoob has posted a video on the indoctrination theory some years ago. It was when I watched it the first time bonechilling. Seriously forget goosebums. My neck straight up froze and my balls looked like two koosh balls!
Justas Gečas doesn't matter. It's still an awesome theory. ACAVYOS has a compilation that's pretty wicked and came out the same year 3 was released. If you want to see a full theory and not just a part one.
MatPat... We haven't forgotten.. We will never forget. But seriously man, this was just like watching an good anime that got cancelled right in the middle.
@@asianpewdiepie6320 Maybe if this video was made in Spring 2012 it would be considered well-written, but this video was made in 2017, 5 years after the Extended Cut was released, and yet he refuses to aknowledge it at all and uses dated pre-patch clips out of context. No wonder part 2 is never coming.
That's actually a really great idea. I want to know what kind of crazy stuff happened to get us to the point where we're forced to use plants as weapons to fight off a horde of the undead. Kind of doubt there's enough in the games to really explain it all, though, without quite a bit of guessing and conjecture.
That would be hard... Do you mean just the modern society shown in the original game or the past and future as well shown in other games? In plants vs zombies garden warfare 2 there is a map on another planet so would that count as the status of the government universally?
Y'know, I wouldn't mind 2-parters so much if the second part actually ever came out within or near the timeframe mentioned 1-3 weeks? No big, I can live with that 3+ months with no sign or mention of part 2 for those of us that don't/can't watch the constant influx of streams? Seriously?
Some people of the Indoc Theory believe its the only choice, remember too, the Indoc Theory was before the extended cut, and that was only available in the extended cut.
It's also interesting that if you shoot the kid, he'll reply to this with Harbinger's voice, and I guess it could mean that it was Harbinger, the very first reaper, to be indoctrinating Shepard after his success in destroying Collectors and ruining reapers' plans in Arrival DLC.
Wait, no, the citadel is the catalyst right? It's been a while since I played me3, but I'm pretty sure it is. The catalyst was the missing crucible piece which then turned out to be the citadel.
SirBantius ACAVYOS has a compilation that's pretty wicked and came out the same year 3 was released. If you want to see a full theory and not just a part one.
The oily shadows thing you mentioned is hard to ignore, as well as the reference to the books with the reaper sound after the failure of indoctrination. The Anderson and illusive man angel and devil over your shoulder dynamic def makes me feel like this is a battle of will rather than a physical battle.
i had a theory that that was the case, except it applies to all of mass effect 3. i view it as shepard never made it back at the end of ME 2. examples of this are that most returning chars from ME2 are trying to fix what shepard believes are their biggest regret. morian fixing the genophage, tali taking her planet back, etc, and if you dont do 1 thing exactly, they die. its reacuring hope followed by demoralizing failure. it ties in with the ending. the illusion of choice, with a tiny window of success. its textbook torture which works and torture that doesnt. no choice, no hope, and someone with tell you the sky is green to make you stop. illusion of choice, hope and demoralization, and eventually, you will get accurate information. saren WAS someone who would die before helping the reapers, but he was given a false choice, which it seems he thinks was his idea, his realization, but it wasnt. the other point is that the cannon ending of 3, now that andromeda has come out is Liaras message, she was not there for the ending of me2
He trained all his life to stop you, chased you across the galaxy.. He was there, on palaven, on tuchanka, on rannoch, on thessia... But even he had to fall. R.I.P. in peace Marauder Shields. Never forgetti.
and im surprised he didn't bring this up, but on the infrasound scale the below 20 ones are the color yellow. sour yellow notes. surprised he didn't point that out, as it just ads further proof.
The yellow maybe depends on what you're using though. It's not actually visually yellow, just yellow is a proxy colour chosen so you can distinguish between them. It's a key to the scale.
He isn't going to do part 2 because he remembered in 3 that the VI that talks to Shep on Thessia and after tells him he doesn't have any signs of indoctrination and it could sense it in Kylo Ren...I mean Kai Leng.
@@Dotoku14 How? From what the game presents the VI are never wrong about that so why would it be wrong randomly one time for no good reason? I get the ending to ME3 sucked but you have to accept it.
I'm REEEEEAAAAALLY hoping he talks about the inconsistencies between Starkid's explanation of the Reapers and the original canon explanation of the Reapers as told by Sovereign. I don't get why people think that the Reapers being the "we destroy all life to save it" cliche is so much cooler than the infinitely scarier "we have no beginning" explanation. Is it so hard to believe there is a realm of existence so far beyond our own that living constructs beyond our understanding could have existed outside of the confines of the universe? I mean... it also makes sense considering that if you took every harvest (which are 50,000 years apart) and lined it up since the beginning of the universe (before any life existed on planets that had not yet existed because stars hadn't been formed yet), you would have around 700 Reapers instead of the THOUSANDS that supposedly "darken the sky of every world". Seriously. 700 Reapers. I don't even really care that the series had a 3-colored ending. What pisses me off is that Bioware and EA retcon-nuked possibly the greatest villains to ever exist--into a cliched sci. fi. motive as old as time--or... Isaac Asimov. Call me entitled, whiny, whatever you want: Of everything bad that's happened to this beautiful space opera adventure with enough lore to stand as a contender in the ranks of Star Wars and Star Trek, their treatment of the TERRIFYING Reaper lore is by and large the most offensive.
The true ending is that Shepard died to the hero, Marauder Shields. And everyone lived happily ever after because your galaxy preparedness actually mattered and the coalition of organics and synthetics defeat the reapers together.
Did anyone else notice that the rachni queen said "sour YELLOW noise" and when he showed us the spectral analysis that the part he was showing us was YELLOW?
YoU'Re NOt LoOkING DEeP ENoUGh Why is it never night? Who are all the NPCs? Who's the pilot of the plane when you go skydiving? SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
They are survivors of a zombie attaxk and now they are force to live on an island with a active volcano, their overlords came with a "brilliant idea" and forced everyone to a type of sport or die, your character can do all of them so you are forced to every sport and when ever you get off, your character respawns, and when you get back on that means your have been revived to do your work -random person on the internet
Mass Effect Andromeda was so shite, though. The story was dry and predictable, the character models were good, but the character movement was dry and stale.
So you missed the most important piece from the theory: Let's talk about the three endings, but we can boil it down really to two 1) The reapers die 2) The reapers live When you kill the reapers, they make it seem like the worst possible scenario because you destroy all the technology all the geth, but if you control or synthesize the reapers live and everything looks perfect. now in the two instances where you let the reapers live, if you look at shepherd's eyes you actually see indoctrination in his eyes, but whereas when you destroy the reapers you actually see his resolve strengthen, I don't remember if you hear the reaper rejection sound or not but his eyes never turn indoctrination color. And the arguably most important piece, where you kill the reapers that is the only instance where you actually see Shepherd wake up on Earth as if it was a dream and he still has to actually finish the fight
The geth actually fused with the quarian suits so there immune system be stronger so technically non canon speaking most geth are not dead but who knows lol
Still should have had an ending with substance. Indoctrination or not, the "endings" were just lazy for end of a trilogy of that scale. Think if Return of the King ended with just casual stroll up the mountain and Frodo just dropped the Ring in the lava and went home.
Well, yeah but it's known that the script for the original intentions around the ending were scrapped pretty late in development but I'm still curious as to how that would play out? I am (apparently) one of few who actually liked the ending of ME3 (though I might have started playing after the extended cut version). The endings left enough ambiguity for the player to determine what happens in detail from what we expect of the characters after getting to know everyone in our own ways. That makes our own stories that aren't wrong which is what I like about the Dark Souls lore, all the games are so deep yet vague enough for us to make up our own stories, explanations and theories that aren't wrong since there isn't proof of anything else.
please dont defend 3 endings that where practically exactly the same, and in no way took into account any of the "important" choices you made during the 3 games(something that they promised). the only choice you have at the end of the game is "would you like a red, blue, or green explosion?"
The extended cut didn't really avoid the iceberg as it so much as added deck chairs to watch the catastrophe from a different angle. The problem with the ending wasn't that we didn't get to say final goodbyes and what not. The problem was that it defied the entire point of Mass Effect (stopping the Reapers from killing and enslaving us all) and rendered all the choices pointless by going along with their insane plan. Shephard is fully capable of using his words to resolve a centuries long conflict (Tunchanka and Rannoch) but can't even so much as say why the Star Child's plan makes no sense on the organics/geths point of view?
He called the Crucible the Catalyst and the Catalyst the Starchild, even though that is an accepted name for him. But it's clear he mixed up a few things or might not have known the differences at all. Also, he referenced the end of one of the missions when it was actually the Reaper IFF mission the event happened instead, but he did mark this himself onscreen when he was talking about it. Other than that, the theory seems solid enough
Also: the final mission of ME2 wasn't the derelict reaper, that was just a regular mission. The final mission was on the Collectors home 'ship' thingy.
I'm reposting this since I got marked as spam. -2:29 to 2:49 ME2's not exactly a race against T.I.M. for Reaper-tech. It's Shepard teaming up with him to stop humans from being abducted by the Reapers' zombie slaves. He corrected the Derelict Reaper part as an annotation, and the parts about TIM wanting to elevate humanity at any cost (reaper tech) is correct, but a good fact-check or a recent playthrough could've stopped Mat from even recording that mistake at this point and again at 9:05 to 9:13. We end the game in the Collector Base; no doubt full of Reaper tech and a baby Reaper, but still a different place from the dead one. -2:50 to 3:15 He confuses the Crucible for the Catalyst. The Crucible is the weapon we're building in ME3 and the final piece, or the "On" Button-- is the Catalyst, which we need to find to turn on the super weapon. We find out that the Citadel is that missing piece aka the Catalyst--and as we attach the Crucible to it, an AI shows up claiming to be the Catalyst whereas it's mainly the Reaper Master AI. The starchild admits and reinforces that throughout the conversation. -7:20 to 7:35 The info up to this point was solid and correct. It starts to get rough at this point because he says the Derelict Reaper mission is a sidequest. It's actually mandatory and so no matter how you play your Shepard, you will have been inside of a reaper. A minor nitpick overall though. Looking back I admit there's not "a lot of mistakes" but there's some glaring flaws. The problem isn't his rundown of the theory or how the Reapers are brainwashing, it's more of how he's framing the story. Most of it is correct but if he could've avoided these potholes (not plotholes) so that any longtime ME fan who isn't a fan of the IT, doesn't have to rely on Mat's mistakes to disprove what he's saying. Basically, prevent them from saying "Oh he got this wrong so how can we take his theory seriously? Did he even play the games?" by fact-checking everything before uploading.
"...now that all the revised endings and DLC for the original trilogy are out" NEW FROM EA THE NEWER DEFINITIVE MASS EFFECT TRILOGY SET FOR PS4 AND XBOX ONE WITH A NEW ENDING CHOICE!!!! I wouldn't be surprised. And I wouldn't be surprised it was done out of spite.
I know, I was being sarcastic. Although this is EA published and their historical track record is less than ideal and I wouldn't put it past them to simply take Bioware out of it.
My theory on this theory on this channel of theory... Someone, a good writer (or writers) at BioWare, wrote this into the script, and it got shut down at the last minute because EA or BioWare wanted to have a Mass Effect 4 possibility, so they threw together a new epilogue, because the idea of ending the story where it was intended to be ended was vetoed somewhere in the chain of command.
actually they had a different ending, but then ea bought bioware after ME2 came out, the lead writer hated working with them on ME3 so he quit and leaked his ending. they were pretty close to the release date so they had to quick through together another ending and this is what they came up with. it felt forced because it was forced
/sigh EA bought them after the original not 2. Drew didn't quit 3. He was moved over during 2 to work on SWTOR. He only had a general idea of his ending which walters had moved away from before 3 began. Didn't leak it.
Im back from watching the teaser trailer to the continuation of Mass Effect. There is only one ending this could of taken... The destroy ending. There is only one way Shep survived... He was fighting indoctrination. Come ooooonnnn Part 2!
FullerAbyss He just about never knows what he's talking about. Game theory gets most things wrong and clearly never even played any of the mass effects. That's why he either thinks the IT is true or is just talking about it like it is true for a cash grab (likely). Only idiots believe in the indoctrination theory.
PimTim If you need two videos over an hour long each to even try to prove your point then you don't deserve to be taken seriously. There is so much evidence to disprove the indoctrination theory. The main fact being that the exposure Shepard has shouldn't have indoctrinated even a very weak willed person. Indoctrination typically requires days to weeks to months of constant exposure to reaper tech to indoctrinate and indoctrination only works on people that have a weak will.
