Pokemon black 2 with how packed the content is, persona 5 royal during COVID, nier automata for it’s setting, xenoblade 2 for the friends we made along the journey and Bravely default being my favorite jrpg ❤

One that’s kind of interesting that I’m grateful for is Gris. Though I never finished it because it started making me frustrated because I’m not very good at platformers, I remember playing it when my paternal grandmother passed away earlier this year and the little bit I played was helpful for my emotions. I may decide to go back to it once I finish my current game, though I’ll probably start over.
@RwnEsper

Please do! The thing about Gris is there is no fail-state, and nothing technically complex; I am also BAD at platforming, but I finished it in around 3 hours. Worth every minute IMO.

3 games comes to mind. Factorio: 7-8 years ago I was in depression, felt like an old shadow of myself and dumb. I kicked myself with this game to prove I could learn and grasp rather complex systems Celeste: Early 2021, helping Madeline climbing a literal and metaphorical mountain taught me to be kinder with myself Outer Wilds: Early 2023, A spark of curiosity, understanding the universe is uncaring and bares no ill will, carving your path. Just play the game if you want to explore a world and be lead by your own curiosity and determination.

We were still in lockdowns and I was really depressed and isolated, but having this beautiful vast world to explore and discover helped me soooooooo much!!! Not only that, it also just made me fall in love with games again and I've been playing so many other good games since then! 1. Oregon Trail - First game I ever really played. 2 Civilization 2 - First game I really owned, played and loved. 3. Kingdom Hearts - First RPG I ever played and absolutely fell in love with the genre. 4. Skyrim - First open world game I ever played and poured insane time into. 5. Monster Hunter Rise - Got me over my “turn based games only” hump and gave me confidence in my ability to learn action games even if I am not naturally good at them. And made me fall in love with the best game series ever. 😊 (though not story. The story is…basic, to be kind)

Games I'm thankful for: 1. Links awakening on the Gameboy, my very first game and got me into gaming. 2. Skyrim, its the game that got me back into gaming the same way you describe Dragon Quest 11. It was the first game I was able to take the time to play after my son was born. 3. Hi there, you inspired me with this topic. I never thought about it and now I'm doing it. I'm thankfull for FFVII, the first jrpg I've ever done. Suikoden, because I made it in english (I'm french btw) so I'm thankfull for progress wich was spectacular for school. I'm thankfull for the Nintendo DS because I went to China for work and I just kept this little thing and play when I was a bit "lost in translation". Finally, Koudelka because I moved in my new home in horrible conditions and it gave me a great confort to find a way out of this abbey. Thanks for the sharing Femtrooper and take care.

That’s a nice story to hear about DQ11. My short answer is that I’m thankful for the NES that my parents had. It was the genesis of my gaming hobby and even led to me being interested in games on other consoles. Everything that I played next felt like a continuation of what came before.

Great video as always. Mine: 1- Breath of Fire : It's the very first RPG I enjoyed. When my father bought it to me, I wasn't sure because it was turn based. I was too shy to say it was not my thing, so I forced myself to play it. I LOVED it and since then, I like turn based RPG. 2- Shining Force : It's my very first tactical RPG. My big brother, who don't like RPGs, played it too and enjoyed it. It's good memories for me, even if I enjoy the 2nd game even more. 3- Skies of Arcadia: I stopped playing RPGs at the begining of my adult hood, for 7 years or so. It's the first one I tried again when I finally had a girlfriend and wanted to show her some RPGs. Since then, I never stopped playing RPGs. 4- Final Fantasy 8: I had played other Final Fantasy before, but I stopped right before this one. My girlfriend played this one before knowing me, because she liked the artwork of the box on PC, and really liked it. She make me discover this one and I have good memories with it. 5- Tales of Symphonia: The very first RPG I played with my girlfriend. Since then, we play some RPGs together here and there.

This is a tricky question, and you did a good job answering it. I can think of two for me right now, both quite recent. First is Dishonored. Liked it, didn't love it, but it was the game that got me back into gaming after a few years of slump. It was early in the covid lockdowns and I thought I'd take the opportunity of all this extra free time to play a game I'd heard of but never played. Doing that kind of broke the dam, and I rediscovered why I liked games in the first place. Second is a little indie game called Last Knight. This one is more serious. When my mother passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago, I needed distractions for a while, but I also couldn't really focus on anything. Last Knight was just enough game to distract me, but also straightforward enough and easy enough that I could handle it at the time.

Over Thanksgiving 1998 my family was spending the holiday at my Grandmothers house, and we needed an AV cable for our N64 (we only had S-Video with us). We ended up going to a Toys R US to get a cable and on kind of a whim, I bought Pokemon Red. I fell in love with the series that night. When I captured my first non-giveme pokemon and the "collect all of them" mantra finally clicked and I was a goner. I loved JRPGs before that, but pokemon was a REAL RPG on a handheld, something quite rare at the time really. The other game I am thankful for is Super Mario 3D World. Years and years ago my wife and I somehow started a tradition where we and the kids play through 3D World over Thanksgiving and into December. As soon as the first level starts the trash-talk and laughs begin and don't stop for weeks. That game is a 4 player treasure to us.

This is a fun idea. My story is going to date me a bit, but... When I was still at university, I was of course very busy and didn't have a lot of time for games, and most of them were stored away as well. I would take some out and play them sometimes still, but often end up abandoning them due to other responsibilities, and I started to feel like maybe games couldn't capture my attention the same way anymore. Then Kingdom Hearts II came out and I picked it up and finished it within a few days, playing in all of my spare time just like I had done as a kid. I'm not a huge fan of the series, nor would I put KH2 on any kind of best or favorite list, but I'm definitely thankful for it sort of restoring my faith in games to really suck me in.

Femtrooper, Happy Thanksgiving. I too have been playing video games for just over 30 years now since 1992, my junior year in high school. My 5 games I'm REALLY thankful for very good personal reasons are these......... 1) Breath Of The Wild- Had Congestive Heart Failure in August 2017 and didn't get to play it until 2021. 2) Ocarina Of Time- that game has given me a lifelong lesson to ALWAYS be prepared for certain situations that may come unexpectedly. 3) Persona 4- I'm forever indebted to RU-vidr, "LadyRainOfSorrow" for making me REALLY appreciate the game due to her heartfelt commentary as such in parts #233 & 234 and during the end credits! 4) Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga- Enjoyed the movie franchise and grew up with Legos. So why not have the two together? 5) Animal Crossing New Horizons- besides being a farming & simulation game, it has real life weather seasons, plus even fireworks at certain times. As well as having a live conservation wildlife museum & aquarium! Plus I've invested nearly 3,000 hours into it!

If I had to pick 5 I would go with: Dragon Quest 11 - Ive been playing JRPGS since I could hold a controller and this game sparked so much joy. I shared it with all my friends and got them all into it and we all put it in our top 5 RPGs (top 3 for me) of all time. Its such a stellar game and truly special. Despite beating it 2 times already I'm hankering for another run but this time fully in 2D. So special, so emotional, so fun. Mega Man 3- This game probably got me into gaming as a whole. It takes me back to such a nostalgic time as a young young child. I remember when we got it, I remember when we beat it, and I remember playing it with my parents. Its so very dear to my heart Zelda 2- I used to play this with my Dad and have nothing but fond memories of it. But thats not where the memories end because every year for some reason I would play zelda 2 on Christmas morning. For whatever reason since I was about 8 I picked this game to replay every Christmas morning because my parents would sleep in due to getting all the presents and everything set up the prior night. To this day I do a run of it on Christmas morning and get to share that experience with friends over twitch. One day ill pay a romhacker to edit a zelda 2 ROM into a Christmas edition Smash Brothers - Any version of this game will do and I could play either incarnation of it until my hands no longer work. The traveling, the bonds, the memories, the self challenge of competing in it and the absolute joy of how it feels to play is something I will always be thankful for. Some have their instruments and sports but for me ill always have smash brothers Final Fantasy 6- This game made me fall in love with the series and is like candy to me. I can replay it anytime and have so many fond memories of it. A few years ago I spent almost 700 days straight grinding in the first area to get to Lvl 99 with terra and in the span of that time I built up a loving community of people AND learned to play games with my other hand (you only need one hand to grind). I beat games on hard mode, shmups without losing a continue, speedran megaman games all with one hand. Im truly thankful for this game and the experience it gave me to learn about myself and get closer to so many other people Such a great idea for a video thank you so much for sharing your games!

Pokèmon Yellow because it ignited my love for JRPGs and monster collection games, it was also my first game ever. Persona 3 Fes, because it showed me that deep and complex stories, can be very enjoyable and illicit emotions i didn’t know i could feel. Devil Survivor Overclocked, because it introduced me to SRPGs and also opened the gateway to my favourite developers, ATLUS. Etrian Odyssey 4, because it reignited my love for old school style gaming, and showed me that party building, planning and dungeon map designing can be so addictive and rewarding. Sonic Mega Collection, because it saved me when i was at a low point in my school life, i wouldn't still be alive, if i didn't have it to distract me from the bullying, and focus on 100% all the classic games, especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles

I am very thankful Xenoblade and particularly 2 exists, the most flawed game in the series but also has virtues that the others didn't. Paraphrasing the ending lyrics, my time with Xenoblade 2 was truly magical. My other choices would be Metal Gear Solid 3, it's story and particularly the ending was so good that it left me speechless changed the direction of my life and made me an aspiring writer. And Final Fantasy X, it was the first game to show me the artistic value of videogames.

I'm also thankful for Zelda Link's Awakening on Game Boy to give me the first real experience with an impactful narrative when the island and all those characters you hold dear suddenly fade away as only existing in Link's head but then you see the Wind fish existing in Link's real world as the last scene before the "fin" end card. Still becoming glassy eyed thinking about it. I'm thankful for Final Fantasy Legend on Game Boy for introducing the RPG systems to me and making me understand the idea of upgrading gear and progression through loot in general and what makes a good loot distribution and how you include it well into world and narrative. And then Mystic Quest Legend on SNES... yeah, what a game, but since I played it with one of my best friends as a child it became my first "coop" experience, even if it was more of a hot-seat/banter/riffing thing. And first and foremost I'm thankful of Elder Scrolls in general but especially Morrowind and even more Oblivion to be the first and some of the only games that gave me a real sense of escaping the real world and delve into a very believable and visceral fantasy in a video game. No matter how clunky, buggy or janky, those games are magic and unmatched when it comes to actual, immersive roleplaying in the literal sense. You live in their worlds, together with its AI and script driven inhabitants.

I would also pick Red/Blue and for very similar reasons as to why you said but on top of that, taking your trained Pokémon to Pokémon Stadium on the N64 was just the best thing ever, seeing your Pokémon in colour and going up against real challenges in the Elite 4 and if you were good enough to beat Gary then you were rewarded with Pokémon and not only that you had a chance of a starter Pokémon, the individual Cups were amazing and it added so much more content/value to the original Pokémon game and I loved it so much that last year at the age of 34 I played through the Red again and took in the Stadium and the nostalgic feeling was overwhelming 😁

Games i am thankful for 1. Dragonball Z Kakarot (My current favorite video game and i purchased that game at my local walmart while in my Goku cosplay costume on release day) 2. Super Mario Bros (The game that got me into gaming if my memory serves me correctly) 3. Final Fantasy X (Still my favorite Final Fantasy game of all-times) 4. Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (That game helped me in certain bad times in 1999) 5. Megaton Rainfall (Since the previous console generation didn't give us a Superman game at all' Megaton Rainfall sufficed as being Superman-like game) 6) DC Universe Online (Still my current MMO that I've been playing since 2011) 7) Shenmue (One of my favorite games that came out for the Sega Dreamcast) 8) Devil May Cry 3 (My favorite Devil May Cry game) 9) Resident Evil Village (That game brought us Lady Dimitrescu whom is the sole reason why i became interested in purchasing that game) 10. Dreams (That game allows players to create their own games and other things that they can think of within the power of the hardware, and it's a Dream come true to finally create my video game melee weapon idea in a video game)

The most important question: What happened to the Pokemon kid, your RPG mentor? Still keeping in touch? As for the question: For me the thankful games would be Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (first in the series I've ever played), Secret of the Silver Blades on C-64 (obviously my first real RPG game), the first Legend of Zelda on NES, Final Fantasy 7 and finally the first Baldur's Gate game. All of these games sparked a certain kind of interest in me for that specific game franchise/genre that has lasted for several decades. But the first thing ever I'm thankful for would have to be a Tunnels and Trolls RPG adventure book my father had gotten me in the late 80's right after I had barely learnt how to read. It was one of those 'choose your own adventure' kind of games where you'd hop pages according to what choices or dice rolls you made.

Games I'm thankful for: Donkey Kong Country 2: It wasn't my first ever video game. But it's definitely the game that made me fall in love with gaming. I played games before than on my brothers' ps1 and 2 and enjoyed them, but playing dkc2 on their old snes. made me fall in love with gaming and video game music. Breath of the wild: I played this during a difficult time of my life. I don't think i would have got through it if it wasn't for botw. Super Mario oddyssey: it was my stress release and comfort away from work. I use to work night shifts in a job i despised which made me near suicidal. But mario oddyssey was my saving grace, i would play it all night on my days off 😅

My best friend in college the following year bought it for me and said to me your missing out on a game changer. Literally my spring break I played it the entire week and finished it. I remember it ignited my passion for video games. So I am happy it was on your list. I think today I am going to think about games I am thankful for. Very great topic! I like the part when you think back on the community back from ninokini initial release! Personally i'm thankful for FFX, i was like "this is it! This is the type of game which i like" it started my jrpg turn based love. Also SMT nocturne which made to light Atlus, who release awesome game to my taste usually. But my most thankful game is Sakura Wars so long my love on the wii! I was SO into it, it made me learn english and improve so much in like 1 month time. Still to this day i think of this game. (It's a visual novel, turn based tactical i'd say) but it's 80% visual novel.

It is a tough one, the first thing I was thankful for is actually what you squeezed out at the end there.. the switch! Why? Because this console is released after a failed wii u, failed ps vita. The execution front Nintendo was flawless! The switch saved portable gaming. Final fantasy 7 remake. Ff7 is one of my all time favourite games, this remake delivered everything I wanted. In fact it blew my mind how the team captured the characters as I imagined them when playing the original! I also love that it is a retelling of the story so while familiar, it is different and a whole new experience as well! Way to keep the og game relevant square!! I am thankful to so many devs like atlas and falcom for releasing games on the ps vita when Sony abandoned it. I love my little handheld, and enjoy th 80 or so titles I have on it. Uncharted 4: a thief's end - I want to thank naughty dog for sending off the series with this final instalment. I loved this series so much and was sad that the adventures were coming to an end. I hope they make a game based on their daughter, doesn't have to be the same kind of game either, only that it should be an adventure! I am generally thankful for gaming in general. I love this medium so much. The immersion of interacting with a story never gets old.

This a weird topic some games I played that helped me during a tough time I don't even think are that great now like Resident Evil 4(2005) which helped me deal with my friend moving away from me but as of recently, and this is going to sound weird but during COVID I was replaying games left and right stuff like the God of War games, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, Ratchet and Clank games, Sly 1-4, Infamous games, Dead Space 1 and 2, Resistance games, Halo games(playing as the MCC was updating on PC was an experience to say the least), Crysis games, Rayman Origins I beat for the first time, I beat Rayman Legends and 3 twice. Beat Transformers Cybertron games, Warhammer 40K Space Marine, Deadpool game, Star Wars Republic Commando and Deus Ex Human Revolution was probably where me replaying all these random games started. I also did a lot before that game but I played my PS3 a lot back in 2021 due to that whole C Battery thing that people were whinning about all though my PS4 did get screwed up but not because of that which pissed me off since HDD corruption is an issue not many talk about. They talk about the C battery but not HDD corruption. I can be here all day but COVID felt really depressing for me and I still haven't 100% recovered from it and just beating so many games at all was enough to keep me from going completely crazy.

One day while at work, I was at food giant grocery store at the bakery and I had picked up this PlayStation magazine and while I wrecked my face with chicken fingers and dinner rolls I went thru the mag I saw a couple of paragraphs and a screenshot of Skyrim, I said to myself that's sounds like nerdy dungeon and dragons type stuff, probably 5 years later I was in the local pawn shop looking around cuz it was brand new here in Tarrant city and I saw a copy of Skyrim and a few other games and I got it for 3 bucks, after the cart ride they chop this fools head off, shoot another with a cross bow then a friggin dragon wrecks everything, I bought every dlc and put a lot of time into that world, it's my favorite game of all time, im grateful for those memories and the game as well 😇 Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

First off, I am thankful for Femtrooper posting these fun videos, and stimulating discussion! There are so many games over the years. As an old guy, I guess one of the games I’m thankful for is Space Invaders. Seeing that sit-down cocktail table, in the ice cream shop around the corner, sometime around 1978 or 1979 - I guess it really did change my life. It might seem quaint now. But at the time, the idea of directly controlling the on-screen image, and trying to get the high score, was utterly riveting. And here I am, over 40 years later, still playing games. Most recently Cassette Beasts and Streets of Rogue, but I still play 2D shooters as well. Oddly I am also thankful for a game related movie, The Wizard. The one with Fred Savage, focusing on Super Mario 3. I somewhat took a break from console gaming during my high school and especially my college years, vaguely around the time NES was dominant. Shortly after college, I saw that movie, which really rekindled my interest in games. But just as oddly, once I got my first full-time job, I did not get an NES. It was 19991, and I believe the 16-bit systems were out. I wound up getting a TurboGrafx-16 of all things. I did enjoy games such as Blazing Lazers and Cratermaze. But the library in the US was somewhat limited - so before long, I wound up also getting the Genesis and SNES… and over the years, most of major consoles since then. I even had a Jaguar and a 3DO at one point!

I'm really thankful for Rayman Origins. The platformer genre is my favourite genre but I started to feel really burnt out on 2D platformers at the tail end of the 7th gen. I had finished New Super Mario Bros Wii not too long before I first played Rayman Origins and NSMB Wii felt like such a slog. I kind of thought about giving up 2D platformers but Rayman Origins reminded me how brilliant they could be.

But I really appreciated having something to take my mind off it(which again is weird I guess, considering what the plot is about)
