Pretty sure shieldmaidens were a thing in Rohan. There are a couple quotes that support it: Eowyn uses that category as an established one "But am I not of the House of Eorl, a shieldmaiden and not a dry-nurse?"; "Eowyn says that women must ride now, as they did in a like evil time in the days of Brego son of [mark showing name omitted] Eorl’s son, when the wild men of the East came from the Inland Sea into the Eastemnet." - The History of Middle-earth: The War of the Ring, Part Three, Chapter I, section (ii); "Many lords and warriors, and many fair and valiant women, are named in the songs of Rohan that still remember the North." - The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A, II.

Forgemaster makes some really nice stuff 😊 I’ve held off them a while because I hate painting horses, but used your fantastic tutorial on painting them as a guide and it made the process a lot less painful! Thanks dude, appreciate your kind words. Won’t be too long before my next video is up!

Glad to have you back. I like the idea for the shieldmaidens but I'd be tempted to have them as gaining the special rules if they are unarmoured (which doesn't fit the minis you have), responding to an immediate threat, and treat them as regular warriors if riding with an Eored. Great mind btw.

I really like this idea but I think different mins would be needed to represent them. Definitely one to think about for the future - a whole Legendary Legion of Sheildmaidens! I did kinda see these more like Eowyn, and rather than just taking it lying down they’re taking the defence of Rohan in to their own hands!

I love this idea! I did think of making a 4th age army with Eowyn and Faramir, and Eowyn could have Shieldmaidens as her royal guard. Could be a really cool army!

Brilliant that you're back making videos, I really enjoyed this one. What paint are you using on the chestnut horses? They look great and I've always been terrified of painting horses (although as mostly a Blood Bowl troll it doesn't come up often!)

Thanks so much! It was one of the Army Painter Speed Paints 2.0 but I can’t for the life of me remember which colour. I did highlight it up a bit with ‘regular’ paint too as I feel you really get that pop from just a little extra work. I hate painting horses too! 😂

Sorry life happened so I couldn't watch the video yesterday. But now it's done. The paintjob is great. Love it, especialy the highlights on the capes that make it look like there is some texture. I do like the more narrative driven rules, but I am afraid that the really situational side of it might not be as beneficial in a gameplay point of view. Maybe replace the "near a Rohan household" by "near a Rohan unit" to represent the fact that they do not want to lose another person. Or is that too powerful ? Haven't played MESBG yet so I don't know. And how much points are they, compared to a normal Rohan warrior ?

Thanks for watching man, and I super appreciate you coming back to give it another full watch! I did think about that but I thought they might become a little bit over powered! But then again if they’re on a table full of Rohan terrain then it would be super over powered anyway! I don’t think they’d ever become real units in the game but for friendly games I can definitely see them being fun to play 😊

I know they didn’t abandon the game but the title ‘Games Workshop haven’t made anything for Middle Earth SBG in a while but they did just announced some Arnor stuff, but here’s some profiles that me and some other creators made if you want to try them out’ doesn’t have quite the same ring.

Contrast paint base and then a little bit of highlighting. Those extra highlights go a long way to making it pop, and normally I HATE painting horses!

When the game first started and there weren’t many profiles out there it was something that me and my friends used to love doing! We didn’t really get balance back then but it made for some fun/interesting games!

I like the idea of shieldmaidens with a lower fight value than the males, but at a cheaper cost. F2/4+shoot/Str3/D3/C3 at 4 points. Hatred special rule as you suggested too. I would change the +1 courage rule from when within 6 inches of a house instead gives +1 courage to male rohan warriors within 6 inches of a female with this special rule. That way they represent fighting alongside their men in a sort of last ditch survival scenario, and the males are giving it their all to save their women. The d3 encourages you to actually bring shields so they are shieldmaidens.

I did think about going for more of a militia-style shield maiden, but felt like the models represented more of a ‘battle hardened’, experienced Shieldmaiden who wanted to fight rather than just being forced to, if that makes sense?

I learned the complete game from a seven page cheat sheet. Going into the Adepticon doubles tournament I had played three games. We went 2 and 1 and nearly won the game we lost. It was a blast.

Yeh it could well be that. I think they’ve had major production issues too which means they’ve probably prioritised other more ‘important’ systems than Middle Earth. I hear there’s lots in the pipeline and genuinely looking forward to see what they do next, I just wish they’d do it a bit more quickly!
