Agreed. I have not found anything that is truly a space marine replacement. Everyone is doing their own thing which is fine. I came back to the hobby looking for 'truescale' parts and was surprised to find not a lot of choice. Much better than a decade ago for sure, especially with primaris existing. Good to see some names still around like puppetswar. The biggest downside to their parts is how the upper torso is stuck to the legs.

If you want to paint some fists, and have yellow ink/contrast, do the pink approach. Can put pink in the shaded/normal area, use a white ink to highlight etc, and then spray yellow ink/contrast over the top. This turns the pink in to orange, and gives a really dark, noticeable gradient, that really pops. Dana howl did it on some tyranids once, it's gorgeous.

I’m all over this already, don’t you worry! I ordered some pink ink but it didn’t arrive in time for filming this unfortunately but when I paint some more I’m going down that route!

This feels like an 8min long advert for a company that sponsored the video. The more interesting question for me is whether you would consider the models in the same light if they did not sponsor the video? Do the models stand up on their own right? Liking your content for the most part, keep up the good work!
@BenjisHobbies
@BenjisHobbies 2 года назад
@Nathan Oldacres - yes, they’re a company I have bought from in the past and I am a genuine fan of their STLs. If I don’t like a product then I generally won’t support/use/advertise for them. In fact I have recently turned down sponsorships because I didn’t like the products they sell. My new printer was sent to me even though I had one previously from the same manufacturer that I bought myself so even if it hadn’t been sent to me I’d have probably still bought one. I make sure to mention brands because I know that people will ask about it in the comments if I don’t.

Bye the way, a tip for push fit models. Yes I know these were not push fit but the thought occurred while I was typing. You know that it is difficult to push models together that have those little pin and plugs without leaving a gap. The reason this is the case is the pin is so snug fitting into the plug that there is no room for the air to escape and you actually create a pressure imbalance that stops the parts coming together. You could actually damage the model with the pressure required for a flush fit. Two solutions. 1 Shorten the length of the pin by half which will get you a closer fit. 2 With a really fine drill bit in your pin vice, drill into the plug holes at the bottom or at an angle finishing at the bottom to allow air to escape. More of the pin goes into the plug which is better if you don't want to use glue.

The models really look cool, they kinda blend some elements from StarCraft, as they look a bit more militaristic than the traditional warrior monk space marines. On the other hand I really don't like the jump packs: they are too large and the way they protude way from the marines's backs is really weird, I would rather have them more flush with the marine's backs. I would certainly print out some traditional assault marine jump packs and use them instead, they are still the best looking jetpacks in SciFi IMO 😅 I wonder how those puppetswar marines compare to both firstborn and Primaris in size, though.

You know what these are? 50k marines, the boxy armour comes as standard, due to further protection/reinforcement with the plate, also integrated are pistons to further increase the users movements. A new lighterweight compound is discovered and used , giving standard line troops the same protection as terminators with all the benefits of artificer armour.....tendons of the marine and fibre strands are connected to the suit, sealing them in, the suit hosts more functions than ever to compensate for extended use. Repair is a matter of the biological and mechanical. An easy explanation for the design.

I want to like the style of these models but something, especially in the final (and nicely) painted product just doesn't gel. I mean, if I were to look at these I would call them cool but...not better. I do believe a lot of comments nailed it with these being more of a "spaces but in a different game universe". The edges make the model busy and doesn't let the person "look" at the model cleanly, more time is spent figuring out what stops where instead of seeing cool details which there isn't much of, more reliance on sharp edges and sudden raises to create interesting shapes than more subtle details. Taking a look at some GW space marines I have and comparing to these in the video, these guys have that "trying hard" energy to them while standard marines just flow. Certainly I feel there is a certain stylistic choice GW makes in that their models will tend towards having some form of curves in their design, trying extremely hard not to have straight lines unless on tanks (and that tends to be only for imperium). These guys are all hard lines, hard edges and little to no smooth surfaces. I know it sounds weird to say but they are "uncomfortable" to look at, your eyes constantly having to go across hard edges over and over again. Not that they aren't nice but the end product just feels flat, the lack of subtle details you find on GW models just helps them pop. Hard to convey my words. Again, nice looking models but certainly not better. (and wouldn't call them bad ether, would be kind of cool to see an army of this style across the table).

I started with Dark Angels in early 2nd edition as the first 40k minis I ever bought were Deathwing Terminators (the name was what did it for me I think) I didnj;t know they were part of Dark Angels, but I endedn up collecting some more minis to go with them. I moved on Eldar next, but then picked up Blood Angels 3rd (because of the Death Company metal box that came with a Chaplain) I played BA until I fell to chaos mid 2nd edition when I realised we could summon Daemons in 40k. Khorne Daemons back then were insanely OP, the Blood Thirster was pretty much un killable until the Vindicare Assassin came out for Guard. I think that was the first mini that ever gave my Blood Thirster any Trouble. Only worked once though as I summoned Bloodletters in to tie it up next time I faced one. Today I have a Death Guard army and a Primaris Black templar army. Thinking about starting an Eldar army again though, now they have eventually gotten a range refresh. Going to have to wait till I get my airbrush and 3d printer though I think.

@@BenjisHobbies They're based in the Ukraine and I've used their domestic postal service twice now without any problems. Personal favorites have to be the MKII and MKV armor variants I've used to create 30K Blackshield / Heretic Astartes at a more realistic Primaris scale.

They look too 'futuristic' for a Grimdark setting. They're cool and all but I don't feel like they fit the 40k narrative. These models' space suits look really prestine and 'robotic' when in fact Space Marine armour should look like bulky, ceramite Knights armour. Looks too advanced overall.

Puppetswar make some great stuff, been meaning to pick up some of their heads and shoulder pads for a while now. Personally with a bit of tweaking I could see these making for some great looking Survivors of The Dark Age models for a Horus Heresy Imperial Militia army.

Absolutely this! I’ve been looking at a lot of HH stuff and the slightly bulkier/older looking armour would definitely fit in that aesthetic!

I do. As long as they're dried off and not soaked in resin still you shouldn't burn yourself if you don't hold them very long

The danger is if you go out in the sun/UV light with liquid resin on your skin. These were completely dry. There is minimal danger from handling these.

So how come there aren't any companies that make actual proxies that look like basic space marines? There's no way copy right is a thing because China makes some of the greatest fakes of big brands. If I can get a pair of jordan 1 fakes that are identical to legit pairs, without that company ever getting in trouble, they can absolutely make little pieces of plastic identical

Great video, as far as which other chapters would have been cool, with the slightly more futuristic equipment of the PuppetsWar minitures, maybe a Salamanders colour scheme would have worked by saying the jump packs are a new design that Vulcan was working on before his disappearance.

@teambellavsteamalice

How likely do you think a future is were GW no longer makes miniatures themselves, but endorse and promote sellers that give a percentage? Another idea is endorsed gaming clubs that ask a small contribution fee (or optional like Patreon) and again pass on a percentage. Ideally those clubs or some kickstarter international fanclub buys shares of GW, slowly (might take two decades) becoming the primary owner. Those clubs might just be a handful of local players that pool resources so not everyone has to buy their own 3D printer. Or clubs can be a hierarchy of regions, and also include the whole tournament scene. When it's no longer some nameless suits, but the hobby itself profiting, people won't mind as much spending money. With cheap but high quality endorsed 3D printing it's less of a threshold and with clubs people might freely loan, sell, trade or donate armies.

The Mars pro two has a filter in it, doesn't it? I was going to get the mars 3, but don't think it has one. Also with Contrast through the AB, do you thin it at all with medium? I'm picking up either the CoP Evo or Infinity next month. I was thinking of getting a 3D printer as well, but I think I'll wait till I can afford the wash and curing station at the same time. Means I can spend more on getting my air brush station up and running this month. How are you finding the little Sparmax as well, please? is it the tankless one, how loud it is? I was thinking about getting the bundle with the sparmax, but might get a compressor with a tank instead. The small size is appealing TBH though. You can get one with a tank, but Artis Opus don't have it any more, and it's quite a bit more expensive from Element.
