This 1969 Dodge Superbee was sold new at Mr. Norm's, the famous dealership in Chicago. It had a long life, but was put away in 1976, where it sat until 2021 when my friends rescued it out of a garage, cleaned it up and moved it onto a new home. That new home got it running and driving in a few months and now it runs and runs well!

I would have done much the same thing, clean it up a bunch and drive it, no rotisserie restoration, just make it a driver and put some fresh rubber, oil, etc in to it so it can be back on the road. Looks great.

I bought one of these in 1975 for $500. It was a 440 automatic...all original including the wheels. I broke the trans in a race and junked it that same year. It had one claim to fame. It outran a 70 Torino 428 cobra jet.

In the late 1960s, Mr. Norm's was the place to go for Mopar performance cars. In the early 1970s, Mr. Norms was the place to go during the van craze. The dealership's cars were stored in what was the employee parking garage for a former Motorola factory and you'd walk the levels to see what was available. The salesmen were EXTREMELY aggressive and did their damndest to make sure you were driving one of their cars out the door--that day. Everything was priced to move immediately---if not sooner.

I heard a story somewhere about a guy that said his dad worked at a Dodge dealership up north and was selling the 69.5 Bee/RR A12 fiberglass hoods, out the back door. He said that almost every car in the neighborhood had one of those hoods on it and even some none Mopars, lol.

Great story on this Bee 🐝 I would have done the same exact thing to the car as well. I met and talked with Mr. Norm a few times, before his death. He was always very friendly, and happy to talk Mopars! This Super Bee is the same color scheme as a "73 Charger I used to own...F8 green with white stripe, my Charger was F8 green with a white top and green interior... thanks Ryan for sharing this story!

Cool! Back in the late 70s, a guy had 2 Super Birds in his driveway(Aransas Pass,TX) for many years. I think I must be getting senile because I can't remember their color. I think they were both orange. 🤔 Also, when I was a little kid,(3rd grade) in Laredo, TX. a guy came to pick up his kid in a brand new Orange(I'm sure about this one) Super Bird. I can still can still remember that wing towering over me and I'm thinking that this car is the craziest thing I've ever see in my life, lol

It's crazy how short of a lifespan those cars had, it was 7 years old and in very rough condition compared to a 7 year old car today.
@01trsmar
@01trsmar 2 года назад
What are you talking about!!! This is NOT a 7 year old car!!!!!How do you compare that to a 2014 model year car today??? That's 7 years old!! This car is a 1969,if it was driven and parked after 7 years that is still 45 years it was parked! That alone adds wear and tear to a car!! Damp and then sun baked for 45 years ruins any car!! Even your 2014 model year car 45 years from now! Park a 2014 outside for 45 years and tell me what it looks like!!! This Dodge doesnt have the original interior,the fender,1/4 panel were repaired... These cars lasted and looked great at 7 years old back in 1976...Hell in the 1990's most had original paint and still looked great..Remember people didnt ceramic coat cars back then or had orbital polishers to help maker them shiny.. Your comment is so odd,I had to shake my head and re-read your comment!

Yeah, Mopar definitely made cheap, fast cars. In 78 my buddy bought a 70 Bee and the seats were thrashed just like this. In 82 I bought a 69.5 Bee and the seats were totally thrashed.

Unfortunately they only use the slots for advertising. They remove them and replace them with steelies when the transaction is done. This Mopar farm does this for every car.☹️

Wow, I loved this story. It reminded me of my 1969 Super Bee story seen here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_0qtAI2EKgY.html Back in 2012, I pulled mine out of a barn/shed at the original owners family homestead. Not a Mr. Norms car, but a little dealership in Houston, TX called Norm Livermore's Palm Center Dodge where it was believed to be a dealer demo car. It is also a well optioned Super Bee. I decided not to restore my Super Bee either, but to leave it in its rough, original state and just drive it and enjoy it. I spent a year tearing it down to the body shell and going through everything to make it a good driver. Jerry Heasley did a story for his "Rare Finds" feature outlining the rescue of the car. It was published in "Muscle Car Review" magazine.

@mrkemblegilstrap
@mrkemblegilstrap 2 года назад
I believe their are way more column shift/bench seat combos because they were cheaper. Back in the day. My best friends 70 Bee, my 69.5 Bee and my 69 RR, were bench seat/column shift.

Gee, I've had mine for 52 years and it's never been restored. No trailer queen for me. I like to drive it and do, provided there's less than a 10% chance of rain. LOL. I looked at a hemi bee at Mr. Norm's but decided that if I bought a hemi, I'd probably kill myself. So I bought (elsewhere) a 383 4-speed car and have never regretted it.

Great car. Don't drive it daily though. It's a nice idea, but there are tooo many people just looking to steal these cars. It's not worth the hassle. Now, the cost to rebuild these is pricey. These basic rebuilds can run $10,000 plus.
