I viewed another guy's video on mounting a garbage disposal after needing to replace mine. He had a great trick for driving the disposal's locking ring home. He used a pair of channel locks. He put one jaw behind the locking ring and the other jaw behind the stop where the lock hits and you squeeze it home. It worked like a charm for my disposal. Also it gives less stress to the housing and the person doing the install.
Steve - you're so funny - I had the exact same problem in my kitchen 4 weeks ago....my plumber came out and also saw it was also leaking from the bottom...It was original to the house - probably 20 years old. I didn't know these disposals can leak in that way....We replaced it with another in-sink-erator badger 500...had to re-sand and repaint the inside of my cabinet since it had leaked and made a mess....
Those Badgers are notorious for rusting out and leaking. The last one in my house only lasted six years. I finally installed a Waste King that has a heavy duty plastic body that won’t rust or leak.
When ever I replace any garbage disposal, I always velcro (white for visibility) the that 1/4 inch wrench so that it’s easy to find, use and store for the life of the unit. Too often it gets lost or discarded because no one knows what’s it is for. Also I advise the customer like Steve does. Great job Steve!
It likely didn't come with those parts. A lot of the contractor versions of those disposals don't because they're meant to replace the same model that was previously installed. The reusable parts aren't included to keep the cost down.
If people ate all of what they fixed for consumables minus the non edibles there would be less waste to discard in the trash can , there for no need for an electric disposal ,there for saving money and potential replacement of disposal and less water usage.
I just did my disposal a few weeks ago. Took me 1 hour from start to finish. Got it on sale at costco. 1.25 hp for 80 bucks. Came in firetruck red. Never seen a red disposal but its quiet and works well. I'm not going to shove bones and stuff down it to test the hp.
Two hands and a foot.... you must do yoga!! At almost 60, I just chuckled at the thought of me in the same position! I'd never get out of there!! Truly enjoy your videos!
....one "Safety/Install/electrical" Question. Did you check for power return on ground to both wires....I know U turned off the switch.....Did not see you test both wires vs ground....please advise, if possible. Great install....the top metal ring, that secures the unit to the underside of the sink.....seems you did not super torque it.....have seen these come loose.....pls advise.
Great job Steve! You make it look too easy. I changed out out 1hp 18yr old ink-sink-erator for same size. I struggled with the weight and getting the locking nut full on. Old one still worked, but first stage blades were damaged by things that fell in. I was afraid of it failing later while full of muck. Then, would need more than gloves. Ha ha.
We are on a septic and have had a disposal for 35 years. No problem whatsoever. We throw most organic stuff in a compost pile. The disposal is just for the small stuff that you scrape off the pots, pans, or dishes. Definitely never use it large amounts of potato or carrot peels. And I heard you can sharpen the blades by putting ice through it. Also note that for a home appraisal, a garbage disposal is considered an asset.
I thought all garbage disposals were the same dimensions. Thanks again for the videos. 🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺🏌🏻♀️🎯 Stay safe. Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
@@picklerix6162 I know with horses power it varies, but with close piping it could be an issue if there was none there, this is why I watch everyday. 🤣🤣
