I love to hear cats "talk" (meow), they have such cute little voices. Precious creatures. And watching Squeak play never fails to make my day. She reminds me so much of my own kitty. The neighborhood cat was out cold for a while there, lol. Must've had a tiring day. Or maybe the heat got to him/her. In Connecticut we're riding a heat wave this week, not sure if y'all are feeling it in NC too.

You could use some wood ash, gypsum, and blue liquid miracle grow. It’s cheaper, never expires, and works excellent. I use the MG at half dose weekly. I used to use the fish emulsion years ago but it smells awful, if you get it on shoes or your skin. It also attracts critters but I see that you have cats to help. I also use the coop poop fertilizer when I plant my tomatoes and around my tomatoes every couple of weeks. I will say you’re doing well so keep at it and have fun. Glad you’re encouraging others to garden.

Not sure if you know this...but...peppers don't actually have a bloom period. They veg and fruit at the same time. It is better giving them a balanced NPK all the way through. I use the emulsion at full and bloom at half. I also started using kelp meal this year and have not needed any supplemental feeding since starting it. The stuff works wonders, I highly recommend checking it out.

Mr. BubbleBeet, I noticed you have "water" every day on your calendar. I am a newbie and full of conflicting advice from many sources. I'm afraid to water everything every day for all the reasons on google -- but (along with the rain-barrels, you genius you) that would sure make it easier! Am I misunderstanding your calendar? I love your clarity AND your lovely happy productive plants back you up completely. I love my plants but they are not quite so happy. I think if there's a master-class for how many mistakes you can make, I'd be cumma sum laude! LOL

Finally someone making gardening videos with cats as the special guests! I've been seeing lots of cute dog sidekicks, but no cats till now! How bad do these fertilizers smell when you mix your ratio? I am trying to decide how to feed my veggies on an apartment balcony, and have limited room to add compost, worm castings, or even meals and powders. Really interested in liquid feeding like your method!

Great video--thank you! Question; Have you ever tried planting your tomatoes and peppers with an egg or two under them? I do this every year, and I get heavy cropping with less bottom-end rot and I don't have to go through near as much fertilizer. I do side-dress with Epsom Salts a couple of times through the season, but that's about it usually.

Video should have been called fertilizer hoarding. 🤣 I'm not going to lie. At the end of the summer right before the pandemic was about to hit, there was a ton of fish fertilizer on clearance and I passed on it since I was buying so much other stuff. Then I kicked myself in the butt bc you couldn't find the stuff 6 months later. Live and learn. I was just starting out learning how to plant and never knew the about the 5-1-1. Now I'm stalking all the store to see when they mark it down again. I use slow release granular in the beginning and give it a boost a month later with the 5-1-1-or if it starts to look yellow. I'm telling you, you can't get better stuff with high foliage plants. I scalped back some grown cover plants to re-mulch the garden bed and it was looks yellow, sad, and wrecked. So I said what the heck and blasted some 5-1-1 all over the plants that suffered undue damage for the mulching project and it is gloriously lush and spilling over the edging blocks after a few weeks.
@BubbleBeet
@BubbleBeet 3 года назад
i agree the results with the fish fert are incredible. I will always keep a few years supply because nowadays things can become unobtainable. itd be a bad thing if i didnt have the 5-1-1 on hand.

Will the fish emulsion attract animals? We’ve got racoons & outdoor cats in our neighborhood

Do you continue the more bloom through out of the rest of growing season? Or just for the month of June?

just curious....are those big containers full of rain water? If so that's amazing! Wish we got enough rain to collect it.

I've heard that it's good to water plants from the base so that you don't soak the leaves (which can get sick in the extra humidity). Do you not have that problem up in NC? Also, just curious if you've experimented to see how much of an effect the fertilizing has on your crops. Do you see noticeably bigger fruits?

ive never had a problem with fertilizing from the top. I try not to wet the tomato plant leaves tho, for them i water from below. thx

Does your cat ever try to dig up the soil to get at the fish it’s smelling? I just planted out some flowers that I had fed with fish fertilizer and about a third of them got dug up overnight by some critter. It just chewed on the root balls and didn’t eat the plant. I’m thinking raccoon, but I’ve noticed that my dog is also interested in the smell. My vegetables are protected by a fence, but the flowers are not. I guess I need a new fertilizer for the flowers - any suggestions?

Quick question! I thought you were not supposed to water up top like that. I thought it was damaging to the plant ?!
@BubbleBeet
@BubbleBeet 3 года назад
hi, it works good for me. its like a foliar feed where the plants absorb nutrients thru their leaves. plus the soil is soaked so the root system gets fertilized as well. thx

Hope I’m not putting in my 2 cents when it’s not wanted; but I think by watering when he does in the day is key. Watering in the full heat and sun of the day will sunburn the leaves and in the thickest area of the leaves, where it stays wetter, powdery mildew May flourish with the combination of water, heat and little air flow.
