As a backyard rose enthusiast, I have to say that having a garden of roses that looks this good is not an easy feat. Most people have only a few roses in a mixed border because when they don't look good they look absolutely terrible. It takes a lot of work to maintain rose plants so they look this healthy and gorgeous. You have such a lovely garden, Darren. Your time and dedication show. P.S. I planted Albertine in my garden last year based on your videos. It's an own root and still young, but I'm hoping to see some blooms this year.

Your garden still looks amazing. Last year, my garden was at its worst. Because of the heat waves, we had a water restriction and were not allowed to water our flower and ornamental gardens. I bought 4 clematis for my rose arches but I think, all of them died. Today,as I prune my roses, I just uprooted one. It makes me so sad, as they were expensive. January and February is the time of year when I am always feeling sad and down but at the back of my mind, I know Spring is coming. This video lifts up my spirit. Here is hoping for a great gardening season to come. 😁😁😁🌷🥀🌼🌞☀️

Darren!! I loved this post in the middle of deep winter. I literally laughed and cried (one wee tear) as you spoke. It's like you gave words to what my soul feels about my garden. I wasn't intending to post a reply until you apologized for rambling for 10 mins. LOL. I genuinely thank you for every word, and for the reminder that spring is coming!! 💓

Thank you, what a wonderful inspirational garden you have …… can you tell me what is the bicolored or multicolored (red and Orange) rose at the 11:06 time stamp. You are a poet with plants…. Just amazing what you accomplished in 5 years …. And, yes, it is an addictive and worthwhile hobby. Just incredible. 🎉 The comments and chatter was good … you expressed your love for your garden and plants. Great!

I was inspired by your garden and have fallen in love with it! It is gorgeous! 😍 I have just purchased my first David Austin roses because of you and patiently waiting for these to arrive. I ordered 3 shrub roses and 3 climbers from David Austin and can’t wait to see how they do in my garden. I put up an arbor and 2 trellis arches and finally decided on what to plant. 🤗 I am excited to start this journey of expanding my garden with more roses!

Darren, it was an absolute delight not only to see your beautiful garden, but to hear your enthusiastic narration about it! I think many of us gardeners, whether experienced and novice, are perfectly happy to prattle on about are gardens and hear others do the same. I have a middle-sized garden that's a constant work in progress. Planted 14 new roses and several perennials and annuals this year, but am always looking to squeeze in a few more! May I ask what your thoughts are on planting densely? Looking at your flowers, I think you and I share the same philosophy on it, but I'd like to know what your experience has been regarding potential airflow/mildew/overcrowding, because I often find myself trying to carve out spaces around some of my plants so that they don't overwhelm each other. I do love the look of them intermingling, so I tend to plant closer than recommended, but I worry about stunting the growth or bloom potential of each plant.

Your garden is an absolute dream, Darren, and it's one that I very much need as ground squirrels have decimated my antique roses and other plants over the last few years in my inland San Diego County garden. Global warming is responsible as they never damaged anything for many years before. It's the new reality and I hope it never touches your wonderful plantings. I really love the mixed nature of your cottage-style garden with its symphony of colors and textures.

Thanks for your video. It’s very helpful. I love to have that one, And I have been working very hard for building that. A big problem I have been facing is the attacks of insects coming from the fruit trees around. Could you please share your experiences about the treatment? Thank you so much.

Darren, I do have a question for you. I've planted Albertine next to my patio to climb over a pergola. This rose definitely wants to grow every which way and I note you have it growing at the side and back of your garden. Do you suggest putting her in an out of the way place at the back of or side of a garden, or do you think she will do ok next to a patio and trained up and over a pergola? Thanks!
@darren-harwood
@darren-harwood Год назад
Hello! Albertine is most thorny and really rather unruly. I would home her somewhere out the way, but close enough to admire. Definitely not somewhere that gets lots of foot fall back and forth. Hope this helps? Xx

There are two trees in your garden that I want the name of. They might even be the same type of tree. It has small green oval leaves along the branch. One is by the shed towards the front of the garden. The other is towards the middle by the big arch covered in purple clematis. Please tell me the name.
