Yeah I got rid of my iceberg. I think I had mine for only 3 years but that was enough. No scent and blackspot it went. Your fallan gong looking fab again this year. Your azaleas also looking fantastic Linda. A ton of colour all over your garden it really is looking great. Another whose videos have come on leaps and bounds, makes me smile. :)
@Jay_Jay Morning Jay Jay, yes it's days are numbered, I have 5 of them out in the garden, two at the back and one at the front then two behind the hedge and shed and they are probably going. I do get a good perfume from it though but maybe that's just the different nose thing again? I'm getting the hang of this video lark slowly but I basically waffle on about plants while I wander around haha amazes me that anyone is interested but then I love to watch garden videos :) Emma Bridgewater is ordered. I've just dug that Japanese Anemone up that you warned me about, it's in a pot now ! I was forever digging the new ones up so it's out now. It can stay in a pot and behave itself ! So I have a space now in with Olivia and Desdemona near the railings at the front so I think that's where Emma will go. @@Jay_Jay Hi Jay Jay yes I think in drier warmer climes you're right, Iceberg can perform spectacularly. I am a sucker for a pink rose and I was about to order Eustacia Vye when up popped Emma, I know pink isn't everyone's thing and it certainly has been done many times but my garden is probably majority pink with hints of white purple and blue so I was delighted to see it wasn't a yellow or orange offering. I have a rose gift box present from Xmas, I used it to purchase Desdemona earlier this year but she arrived in a sorry state so DA refunded everything for me and I thought that was nice of them so I'm having another try with Emma, fingers crossed she arrives in good shape 🤞
Your garden is looking really lovely Linda. The sunny weather seems to have brought all of our gardens back to life. I thought my seedlings were never going to get going as they germinated okay but just sat there. Now I'm struggling to pot them all up! Not happy that the slugs have decimated a whole load of seedlings plus a tray of Calibrachoas that I was potting on. I've resown some Sunflowers but I think I'm too late to do the Tagetes. It's been the worst year I've known for slugs and snails. Your Soapwort looks gorgeous and I love what you've done with Lewie's garden. He will always be in your heart. I too love Clematis and my "Etoile Violette" has grown so much and has loads of buds. It must like it's position. I lost an "Avalanche" after all that rain (my garden was under water for days on end) and it was fairly new. I've bought another one and am keeping it in a pot. There's a channel called "Paul T's World" and he has a beautiful garden with the most spectacular "Avalanche" and when I saw it, I had to have one! Your hanging baskets are going to be very colourful Linda. I've done six of mine and have two to do. It's a job that I like doing and I've been loving the gated baskets. I can see that you have them too. I can tell that you put in a lot of hard work as beautiful gardens like yours don't just happen. All the best Linda. xxx
@wendybartlett6717 Hi Wendy, thank you so much for your lovely comments. Yes the sun is helping, finally Yay ! we need it, so much rain we've had haven't we? I have the same issue with slugs, oh that's so sad that your plants were eaten. I have never known so many, going out at night with a torch and picking them off is what I'm doing and it is helping to save the smaller plants, I had a few small Nepeta's almost eaten away but I can see they are starting to get going now. I agree about the seedlings too, mine were the same just sat there for ages, my greenhouse is crammed full, I think this time of year is difficult juggling all the plants and about 10 days ago we had a huge storm and the garden was under water for a couple of hours I literally had pots floating down the garden with tiny plants in. We drove back here just as it started and when we got here I was out of the car shin deep at one point in the garden trying to save my plants from drowning :) Shoes ruined but saved my plants ! I have Etoile Violette and you've reminded me to go check it cos it's clinging to the trellis at the back of the garden and I always have to keep tying it in as our trellis is quite wide, I have a cotoneaster next to it for support but sometimes I find it scrambling along the ground so I'll go check on that tonight in case :) Thank you ! Such a shame about Avalanche I think you are right to keep it in a pot as I don't think they cope well with our winters although in a sheltered position in the right place they can do well but I know here in North Yorkshire it would probably struggle and I would need to keep it in the greenhouse over the winter. I've seen Paul's channel he has a stunning garden, I think he can grow ericaceous plants well in his area, he always seems to have stunning azaleas and rhodies, beautiful camelias and lots of hydrangeas, a lovely channel to watch. Your baskets must be wonderful, I bet they are really colourful. I like the gated ones they are so easy to do and they have a little reservoir in the bottom which helps retain moisture when watering. I have used plant saucers in the past to retain water in the base of a basket before filling with compost but with the gated ones it's not needed. I hope you are enjoying your garden, it's a lot of work but it's so rewarding to see the flowers blooming for us. I will be out with a torch later on looking for the little munchers haha take care xxx

I can't believe how many different plant varieties you have in your garden! I think you put a lot more work into your garden than I do - there's so much thought and organisation that's gone into it. I planted 3 Margaret Merril bare roots 18 months ago, and I was not impressed either, but to be fair they were rather overwhelmed by the nearby Sweet Honey bare roots which took up so much more space than I had expected - being not the advertised 3 foot tall but more like 6 foot tall. I just checked the one MM which I haven't moved and is in a sunny spot and it has a dozen flowers or buds on it, so maybe it improves with age. From one MM to another MM, Mum in a Million. This new bare root has just started flowering for me - huge flowers and very fragrant, so I am really happy with that - some roses just impress immediately and you don't need to wait for them to mature. I am waiting to see how Jacques Cartier performs this year - he was too small to do much last year, and in the shade. Interesting to hear Eyes for You is fragrant - but, as you say, maybe not the most attractive rose. I have just got my first flower on a yellow "Eye" type of rose, Peter's Persica, which is a very bright and cheerful short climber - not sure about the fragrance yet. This year I am trying a lot of roses which are new to me - the idea is to see what's worth keeping and then try more new ones next year after disposing of the ones that don't inspire me - I'm just worried I may not be able bring myself to throw any out!

Oh that's good to hear your Mum In A Million is flowering for you I am looking forward to seeing it flower, Jay Jay has it and unfortunately he is to blame for much of my rose shopping ! haha we all are a bad influence on each other but these roses are so wonderful it's hard to resist :) I like your idea of trying new roses but I am with you on the not being able to throw them out ! The weather today has been really hot I've resorted to putting up shade cloth in my greenhouse as the temp. in there was over 42c and I still have seedlings to baby along so I was very hot and bothered by the time I'd faffed about & fastened it all in place - probably not the best day to be doing that job ! Hi Linda, Where do I begin. Firstly I wrote a 'Comment' a few days ago and couldn't have pressed the 'Comment' button. Thanks for a walk around your lovely garden; I always enjoy it. So much going on. I do wonder how long it takes you, or a Soulmate, to do the watering? The Aloha is looking good. Mine has been a very slow grower over the years but certainly worth waiting for. Clematis all looking wonderful and giving you few surprises too. If Rural England likes where it is be prepared to be putting up some sort of structure/support. I love that rose. Niobe, another favourite of mine. Your Ghislaine de Felegone's all looking good too. Looking forward to seeing them in flower. Will you be growing them as a shrub or small climber? Ballerina I have no experience with but a neighbour of mine has one and it's a lovely rose.. Blush Noisette, a brilliant roses. Lovley scent and hardly ever out of flower. One of my absolute favourites. All in all a lovely tour - keep 'em coming. The only bit of advice I could offer you is how to grow weeds. You don't seem to be very good at it. P.

Re. watering, due to the deluge of rain we've had this year watering isn't too bad except for the containers and baskets, although as Summer gets going and we hopefully have sunny dry days my arms will begin to resemble an orangutan when the in-ground plants need watering too! My husband will help me with watering as it heats up, for some odd reason I appear to have 5 watering cans and can't quite remember buying all those ! I think I must have inherited some but it comes in handy as we have several water barrels around the place so it means less walking to refill from the front to back. He's also doing a good job at the moment of slug hunting after dark, this year we are overrun by the little munchers. Your garden has quite a few of the same roses and clematis so I know I must be doing something right here as your garden is simply stunning. I can't wait for this garden to get established but it all takes time I have to be patient ;) I wish we had your weather but hey ho it's North Yorkshire, we have lush rolling green hills so you can't have everything ! You made me laugh re. the weeds I am forever pulling them up and as soon as you look again up they pop haha constant battle with the weeds but I am trying to get some ground covers in to combat them if possible. I bought a few packs of mixed ground covers when Parkers had an offer and I bought some low growing Nepeta varieties earlier this year and I've been frantically taking cuttings to increase my stock and they root so quickly so I'm very pleased. I'm adding some hardy geraniums etc., all in an effort to beat the weeds haha. Yesterday I planted a new dahlia in the centre of the bed behind the greenhouse where White Eden, Colette & Augusta Luise etc are. I'd left a space in the centre for it. It's Linda's Baby ! It's beautiful and I just couldn't resist it so that can now be Lewie's dahlia. I have quite a few dahlia's but they are usually in containers but I wanted this one to be in the new bed. I'll have to dig it up for winter as that bed can get quite wet in the winter time, I'm fine with that. As for Ghislaine, she is a shrub a large sprawly shrub but she's also a short rambler so I think I'll try to get the one in that bed to climb a little if possible so she doesn't sprawl too far into her neighbours ! I planted her next to the buddleia hoping I could borrow it for support as she grows. We had rain again this morning so I've been potting on and pricking out. The forecast for a couple of days for us is quite wet lots of heavy rain - oh joy more rain haha Looking forward to seeing a video from you soon when you have the time. Looking forward to seeing your Dahlias out in flower in due course - I'm sure Lewie appreciates the effort. Yes, we seem to share similar taste in roses although I tend to major on Climbing Roses. I liken my garden to the City of London; I can't go out so I go up. We had rain this morning and underneath the Mme. Alfred Carriere was a carpet of petals. Still plenty left fortunately. My Ghislaine will be out shortly so I'm looking forward to that as will be my Rural England. It looks like I've got three nice days coming so I guess I'll be busy again.
