Hi Linda and as you said towards the end of the video, ',,,,,,,pretty good look around/update.'. Yes, a lovely look around and so much colour and so many healthy plants. You must get much more rain that we do down here in Kent as things look so green. All really dry here and things suffering. Some of the trees around here, not mine, are starting to loose their leaves now. Your Clematis look lovely as do the Phlox etc. etc. I shall be interested to see how your Maid of Kent progresses. Rumwood Nurseries/British Roses, about two miles up the road from me, was where it was bred so I know it quite well. All your roses look lovely and I shall be waiting to see your second flush with Ghislaine de Felegonde. Mine is budding up again and I did give it some water today because I think it is suffering as are the Hydrangeas. Your Himalayan Honeysuckle is looking good and so is mine and I'm sure the Blackbirds will be back to have a feast in due course. The young Collared Doves are doing nicely too up in the Mme. Alfred Carriere. As you say, the gloves are good value for money. I get mine off ebay but they might be a size or two bigger than yours. Thanks for the look around, I really enjoyed it. Cheers! P.

@peterhaymaker7562 Hi Peter, thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comments, yes I'm sure we have a lot more rainfall up here, we are very green still. You are blessed with sun also, I'm sure you get much more sunshine than us. Maid of Kent is doing well so far fingers crossed she's happy and I'm hoping she covers the arch in a couple of years time ! A drink for Ghislaine is a good idea if you are really dry, I know some say it's best to not water in ground plants and let their roots go down deep but some things just need a little help now and again don't they? Especially when we ask them to re bloom. I'm looking forward to seeing a video of the Collared Doves and your beautiful garden again soon. Re the gloves, my hands have been so much better this year because I wear gloves when I'm pruning/weeding etc it really has made a difference, my hands usually look terrible by mid summer haha full of scratches ! The weather here this week is breezy and a bit rainy some of your lovely Kent sunshine would be nice if you have any to spare :) Hope you're having a lovely week in your garden, take care.

What a lovely surprise to see that you'd done a new tour of your beautiful garden Linda. You still have lots of colour and I bet you're glad that you've got things where you want them after having the builders in. Clematis seems to do really well in your garden. Mine have been the best they've ever been this year and I'm not sure if they're just a bit slow to get going for the first couple of years or whether they've liked the weather we've had. I bought a new one "Bill Mackenzie" when we were on holiday in Shropshire a few weeks ago as Dobbies garden centre was a ten minutes drive from our cottage so there was no way that I was missing out on a visit there! Car was pretty full coming home as I also had the four David Austin roses that I bought in Albrighton. Pleased to tell you that the Persian rose seeds that you kindly gave me have grown into super little plants and have been potted on. I managed to get the back grass cut this morning and timed it well as it's been raining all afternoon and now the wind has picked up. I've actually got some Sunflowers out which are so late this year. Been growing them for years but had so much difficulty in getting the seeds to germinate this year. Think I did three separate sowings before I got anything. Hope I've staked them well enough as their heads are swaying around with all this wind. Take care Linda and thanks for the tour. xxx

@wendybartlett6717 Hi Wendy, Thank you so much for watching. I realised just as I was about to set off deadheading/weeding that it's been a while since I've done a look around video. The garden changes so much doesn't it? Clematis do take a while to get going you're right but maybe they've enjoyed the rain followed by the sun I don't know but Bill Mackenzie will be lovely it's a later flowerer so should give you great colour when others are over and I believe it's quite a strong vigorous grower too. I'm so happy the seeds have germinated, you will be able to collect many more seeds for next year now but if not don't worry I can send more. You had a great shopping spree for your garden while on holiday haha typical gardener buying plants on holiday ! I know your garden must be spectacular. One day we will persuade you to take a little video for us all :) The lawns were cut on Sunday here, thanks to my husband, all neat and tidy again. They desperately needed doing just had so much on lately some things had to wait. Your sunflowers will be amazing I'm sure, I know you said earlier that your neighbours appreciate them. Yes, we've had a breezy day here too and rain so not had much time in the garden. Hopefully we get a few breaks in the weather this week to enjoy our gardens, I hope your sunflowers hold up well for you, take care and thanks again for watching xxx

I’m really scratching my head and thinking how on earth do you keep everything so tidy with gazillions plants. Now you’ve really tempted me to look again at “crazy in love “. Mine 2 zephrine has been thrown to a part of my garden where it’s had zero attention. Watching your videos really gives an insight to some interesting plants . Thank you for sharing Linda 😊

Hi Ken, I've probably over stuffed my garden this year to be honest, I think I bought too many seeds in the winter time longing for the warmer days and then oops no room left come the summer haha ! Crazy In Love is definitely worth a look, it's healthy I don't have any issues with it, it blooms repeatedly and has like I mentioned a lovely intoxicating perfume, well it is to me I really do love it, one of my favourites for sure. Hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy your beautiful garden, take care.

Thanks for that lovely walk around your garden Linda. It has been a while since your last one, hasn't it? I always feel you show us so many different plants that your garden must be the size of a football pitch, but then you show us an overall view and it clearly isn't! It makes me feel like a dilettante when you show so many different plants - it's almost like walking around a garden centre with Carol Klein casually reeling off name after name! I don't know if my Lavatera is a Burgundy Wine, but it's grown huge, about 6 foot across in all directions, but like yours it flowers non-stop for much of the year. I didn't realize we had a Himalayan Honeysuckle in our front garden until I saw yours - my wife will no doubt be wanting to sample the berries now. Your gloves look pretty thornproof. I was trying to tie up my straggly climbers in pots on the decking (just in case we get enough sun to want to sit on the decking without getting torn to pieces) and now the backs of my hands look like they have chickenpox - perhaps I should have gone for the thornless Zephirine Drouhin.
@soulgirlktf
@soulgirlktf 4 дня назад
Hi Nik, thanks so much for watching. You are no dilettante ! You have a wonderful garden full of interest and colour and you show us so many varieties and you are obviously a very good gardener as we all can see and appreciate. My garden isn't large but I probably have crammed as much in as I dare to haha I have stolen lawn here and there when my husband isn't looking ;) Lavatera is a really good doer as you say, especially if you deadhead regularly. The gloves I was wearing in the video yesterday are great for roses they were cheap as chips, I bought a few pairs I wish I could remember where from now but it escapes me. I've had hands that look like I've been in a fight sometimes so I try to wear gloves when I'm doing the roses now and it does help. I can recommend the perfume of Zephrine Drouhin very beautiful and powerful, it tolerates some shade very well and like you say it's gardener friendly too :) Thanks again for watching it's much appreciated, hope you have a lovely rest of your weekend whatever you are doing, take care.

@@soulgirlktf On the theme of berries, on the internet this morning I discovered that Amelanchier berries are more commonly known as Juneberries and supposedly have more health benefits than Blueberries. I bought a bottle of Juneberry Gin Liqueur from Pershore a couple of years ago out of curiosity - if I'd known it got you tipsy while improving your health I'd have bought more! Unfortunately we haven't got room to plant an Amelanchier.
@soulgirlktf

@@nikkonch Oh yes Amelanchier they are really lovely trees for a smaller garden, very pretty. I have heard them called Serviceberry also. Alan Titchmarsh used to do garden make over programmes and he was a fan of them, quite often he would include one. The Gin liqueur sounds lovely too !

Hi Linda, That's weird isn't it? I'm so excited as I'm going to David Austin's in Shropshire soon when we are on holiday. Keep adding and crossing off names (you know what it's like, we want them all!) but Ancient Mariner, Emily Bronte and Claire Austin are definitely coming home with me. I've just watched Nik's Elizabeth and am sorely tempted by her too. If I remember, I'll ask at D.A's about yours. The seeds you sent me have been sown (I kept a few back) so I hope they germinate. So good of you to send them to me. I've been telling everyone about you as we seem to concentrate on bad people but I think most people have a heart of gold like you. xxx

I am so excited for you going to David Austin's soon !!! You will be like a kid in a toy shop 🤩I can't wait to hear all about it. How much room will you have in your car haha oh dear🤣 It's going to be fabulous, whatever you choose will be wonderful and what a great day out you'll have, many roses will be in 2nd flush. I'm sure it will be a special day for you and you never know what will steal your heart on the day. I had no intention of buying England's Rose when I was going there, never gave it any thought, did I even know about it? Probably not until I saw it and sniffed it😍 I hope the seeds germinate well but if they don't I have lots of plants so I can guarantee you'll have some of those plants come what may and if I'd been a bit cleverer at fixing the heavy pot into a box securely for transport you'd have the plants now but the tops were so full of flower stalks I think they could have snapped off easily if not handled really carefully :( Elizabeth is lovely yes, Nik's Elizabeth and Jay Jay's too look glorious mine are new so just finding their feet and hopefully no more yellow blooms now !!!! haha Take care, I'm so excited for you xxx

The landscapers have done a lovely job there Linda and I bet your glad to have your garden back. Your plants look amazing and don't seem to have been affected by all the dust that the workmen created over the past few weeks. Plants are tougher than we think. I love your Persian Roses in the wall planter. Not heard of those before but they're stunning. I had a whole morning yesterday catching up on my deadheading as we've had a few consecutive days of rain but I quite enjoy that job and a couple of the neighbours stopped to tell me that they really like looking at my sunflowers so that was nice. Can't believe how much our gardens change in just a few days especially when it's been raining. Thanks for the tour Linda and take care. xxx

@wendybartlett6717 Hi Wendy, thank you yes I'm pleased with how it all went and I am so happy to be back in my garden again I really missed it. The Persian Rose I asked my neighbour and she said it's a type of dwarf Impatiens Balsamina she said she's always known it as Persian Rose but I'd never seen it before I saw it in her garden last year. She saved some seed for me which was fabulous because I was able to sow them earlier this year and that came in very handy because she didn't have any coming up herself this year so I could give her some plants back this spring from her own seed ! Which I love :) They seem to like sun or shade so very versatile plants and they will flower well into autumn, if you want some seed let me know or I could box a couple of plants up for you no problem as I am over run with pots of stuff at the moment, you would be doing me a favour ! How lovely your neighbours are enjoying your garden I bet they really appreciate all your hard work. My postie appreciates the garden he's a bit of a joker, nice chap he said the other day 'I've got a statement for you' handing me an envelope ' you've got a beautiful garden!' The weather is supposed to be improving so hopefully you can enjoy your lovely garden and of course the endless deadheading we have to do but like you I don't mind that job except the petunias in my baskets are a pain sometimes, I have to wear gloves or get in a sticky mess ! Wow! All up and running again Linda and looking lovely. I guess some things are worth waiting for huh? Certainly plenty of dead heading to do although by the time I write this you've probably done it all. It's interesting about Rural England. It was bred by Rumwood Nurseries/Garden Centre, Langley, Kent, (British Roses) just up the road from me by the Fermor family. I had one for many years and it was a real performer. For some reason I decided to replace it with a Generous Gardener perhaps 3 years ago. Was I right or wrong to do that? Time will tell. Your 'Our Beth' is gorgeous. How many pots do you have to water? It's OK, you don't have to count them - just lots. Timeless Pink looks to be one that I should try and find room for. We share Blush Noisette; one of my favouites - always very healthy. Several others too so it's interesting to compare. Looking at you Ghislaine I think mine needs some more grub. My Aloha is resting at the moment. I enjoyed the tour, thank you. Cheers! P.

@peterhaymaker7562 Hi Peter, thank you ! I'm so happy to get my garden back, can you tell ? Rural England is a lovely rose and such a wonderful perfume and it's pink of course :) You still have another one though if I remember rightly a quite magnificent one too, mine is only two years old so has a way to go yet but it is a stunner and I do love it. The Generous Gardener is a beautiful rose too, larger blooms you are lucky you can have both in your garden, that's lovely. The pots are an issue I know I have too many, I am reducing them but I had a lot of spring bulbs in pots also so maybe it looks worse than it is at the moment plus all the lilies and dahlias, as all the pots were kind of displaced from where they'd been on to the lawn - what am I saying !?! I have too many it's true I need to reduce them :) The thing is I like to squirrel them away when they've finished doing their thing as they look a bit unsightly when they die back so I just need a lot of pots ! Oh dear I'm sounding crazy now, Linda you have too many pots !!! 🤣Ghislaine will definitely appreciate a feed yes, I think she can be quite hungry she's a monster, she owns this garden LoL. Thanks for your lovely comments I hope you're enjoying your beautiful garden, the weather seems to be improving, take care.

Hi Linda, I was reading your reply and thought what is @@soulgirlktf taking about? Rural England???? Yes, I have two of them; what I took out was a Maid of Kent. Sorry to confuse you - my mistake. I had a lovely Maid of Kent, bred up the road, which I replaced with a The Generous Gardener, rightly or wrongly. I do have some lovely photos of my Maid of Kent. The 'Angel' is probably coming around to see me next week so I'll have to see how I can maybe send a picture of it when it was out in flower. Every year I say i'm going to grow less but somehow it doesn't seem to happen, pots included. Gislaine will get some food which I think she'll appreciate. She, like some of the others, is doing what actors do - taking a break or is it 'Resting'?. Yesterday I found some bulbs I knew I'd saved to be planted out last Autumn time and just couldn't find them. Concluded I'd thrown them away by mistake. Most still look OK so I'll stick them in the ground and see what happens. They all came out of pots. I could go on about the garden but won't, I'll just say, 'Bye for now'. Cheers, P.

@@peterhaymaker7562 Ah, Maid Of Kent now I understand. I'm sure The Generous Gardener will be a great choice for your garden it's such a beautiful rose, very elegant. I just fell in love with Maid Of Kent when I saw it down at David Austin's it was so impressive and I am drawn to that flower form. I do like the dainty cluster type roses and the effect of so many of them literally dripping in long panicles of double flowers it was really a sight to see looking up from beneath an archway, that's a couple of years ago now but when I bought this tall wooden arch recently I just had to get Maid Of Kent for it. I liked how pliable it appeared too, so training it shouldn't be too much of a battle for me but I might need some taller ladders ! I look forward to The Angel visiting you, I would love to see your photos of Maid Of Kent. Your garden is so wonderful we all want to see lots more of it, he will sort it out for you I'm sure. Ghislaine won't rest for long she'll be taking over your garden soon haha watch out :) Found bulbs are always good I found some in the garage at the start of the year that I'd lost and they were fine, it's always worth a try. Today I'm doing more tidy up around the garden, still have piles of stuff everywhere. I have staging and racks down by the shed which is behind the hedge in the back garden, full of plants to deal with and my toms are trying to escape from the greenhouse too so they need attention but it's all good the weather is being kind, have a lovely day, take care.

Lovely garden Linda and I do love how well balanced it is. Busy and well balanced love it. Blue angle looking gorgeous. rural England is flying that looks like continual blooming. Your geraniums are growing tall ours like spread out like a ground cover. Did I see a minattire penny farthing bicycle? That maid of Kent you’ll need to keep an eye on that I think. 2 or 3 years that’s gonna be deep but easy enough to train. I see you getting rid of that gravel and replacing with soil at some point or full of pots :) The landscapers done a great job Linda :) I’m pretty sure that’s timeless pink just an odd flower on that one. Gorgeous garden Linda I enjoyed watching that :)

@soulgirlktf Месяц назад
@Jay_Jay Hi Jay Jay, thanks so much ! I'm not sure about balanced but it's getting a bit tidier - still have too many pots to shift ! Re. the geraniums I think there are many, 100's even, of varieties some are more ground cover types like you mentioned and I do have some of those and some can grow quite tall. Yes the little display bike, I did have the soapwort in that earlier this year but I'm not sure what the heck happened to that pot, it's probably buried in a pile of stuff down by the shed haha that bike is another thing I need to shift, had it many years, it's just been abandoned by the fence when all the chaos started! Maid Of Kent I will definitely have to watch and keep in check. It's a magnificent display. I was stunned by it at David Austin's and the one at Kew is fabulous, I had to get it. I can appreciate it's only a once bloomer as you say but quite often those are the most spectacular performers, I am also planting a few clematis for additional interest in with it but if it grows too big for the arch I might have to send some of it over the arbour roof too haha. I am really pleased for you Linda - you have a garden again! And a super-duper improved garden at that! I can't get over the number of different clematis (and other flowers) you have. It does seem to be deadheading season at the moment, but looking on the bright side that's another flush on its way. I think maybe I should try a Sweet Honey cutting too, to be able to put one in the front garden - she's such a powerhouse of flowering. Are you sure that Timeless Pink is a Timeless Pink? I had a look online and that colour just isn't what I see there - but as I have learnt, roses can sometimes look totally unlike themselves, and you do say that colour is unusual for a TP - are the other blooms on it what you would expect? Our buddleias have been out for a week or two, and normally they would be attracting dozens of butterflies, but in this weird summer weather we are lucky if we see a single butterfly in the garden. It looks as if you will be very happily busy over the next days sorting things out and getting everything as you like it. I envy you the excitement, but maybe not the work involved!

@nikkonch Hi Nik, thank you so much ! It's definitely deadhead season here now. My poor roses were crying out for a tidy up, the clematis too. It is so nice to be able to get to things in the garden again but still finding dust everywhere, probably will for a while yet. You should try a Sweet Honey cutting yes, it seems a super strong variety and like you say a powerhouse of flowers. Timeless Pink for the most part looks as it usually does, it's just that one bloom that has the apricot / pink look about it. I looked on Peter Beales site, I think that's where I bought it and they actually describe it as 'Light pink to apricot' but I've never seen that two tone effect on it before and it's always been a fairly solid shade of pink for me, I say always, I've only had it a couple of years. I can only think it's the weather or maybe it didn't like the landscapers dust haha. I know what you mean about butterflies my garden is normally full of them but at the moment there are just a few. We were expecting heavy rain the last 24 hrs but we've had barely a drop, the water barrels are very low, can't believe I'm actually saying that after all the rain we've had this year ! Hope you are enjoying your lovely garden, take care.

@@soulgirlktf Hi Linda, Yes, we are showing our age remembering the Milk Tray man. There were some good adverts back in the day and I used to like the P.G. Tips monkeys. The youngsters in work used to give me a pitying look when I told them that we had to get up to change t.v channels. I remember being sent to the next door neighbours as their daughter would phone our house then the mum or dad would come in our house and take the call. This happened regularly until the neighbours got their own phone installed. Unbelievable when you think of that today. I can understand your frustration at being unable to do your deadheading. I had to stop myself doing it in a garden centre on Wednesday! Won't be long until you get your garden back to the way that you want it. The upheaval will all be worth it. Take care Linda. xxx

They seem good quality and the thickness of the stone does matter I think, so we went for the 25mm stones hopefully they should last but yes with the labour on top it isn't cheap. @Lin_Greenfinger Hi Lin, it's a bit complicated I tried to explain it to Nik but I think everyone's brain is hurting now ! haha including mine🙃 He thought he had received Porcelain Parfuma and was sending me the same rose BUT one of his viewers alerted him to the possibility it was an imposter but by this time he'd already arranged for me to be sent one. I got the correctly named rose he thought he'd got but he was looking at the imposter so turns out I haven't got the rose he initially received and thought I would like ! This company he ordered from have no idea the headaches they have caused us as now everyone tries to understand what happened !!

Hi Lin yes it did get very confusing sadly. I’ll try and explain. I received “porcelain Parfuma” a few months back. When it flowered recently it had great fragrance, a bright pink, very very fragrant and I thought it was porcelain Parfuma. I also thought Linda would love it because I know she loves a fragrant pink rose. So I ordered one for her. In the coming 2 days it became apparent that my “porcelain Parfuma” could be a traitor rose. I emailed golden valley and they sent me a new one for free which I also happened to receive today. I’m hoping that makes sense now. Either way the important thing to remember is, Linda’s had flowers on. Mine didn’t! :)

A lovely gift - Jay Jay is such a nice guy, isn't he? Your husband's intitial accusatory tone and your plea of innocence was like when I received a rose a couple of weeks ago and got a very frosty old-fashioned look from my wife - it turned out to be a Father's Day gift ... luckily for me. I'm afraid I got a bit lost in your explanation of the wrong rose not for him but not the same wrong rose for you or whatever, but the main thing is you have a new rose to enjoy!

@nikkonch Hi Nik, it was such a lovely surprise, he is very kind ! I know, the story is a bit complicated isn't it. I love you Father's Day story, we gardeners are always trying to justify the plant boxes that show up haha I was frantically trying to remember what on earth I'd ordered I was definitely protesting my innocence :) Jay Jay ordered Porcelain Parfuma but he was sent another rose in error, he did a video about it earlier this week, it may be Pink Perfection I don't think he's sure what they sent him. My understanding is, when he saw it he thought I would really like it, the perfume the colour etc so he very kindly arranged for them to send me one also as a surprise gift BUT after he'd arranged this he discovered it was in fact a different rose to Porcelain Parfuma, one of his viewers pointed out to him it didn't look right. So he is looking at the imposter thinking I would really like it, arranges for them to send one here, only to discover what he's arranged to be sent to me isn't what he received at all and wanted me to have ! haha I told you it was complicated 🤔 but it's such a fabulous surprise and I absolutely love it !

I'm not sure I was "enjoying" my garden today Linda. It was quite warm, and I had a lot of plants (flowers to be) grown from seed in the greenhouse and had to start planting them out, some in hard dry clay (no rain here) and some in the softer new bed where I will be planting roses in the autumn. Then I dug over some of the (hard, dry) ground in the greenhouse to plant dwarf beans in there, as I do each year - and each year I am bemused to find stones in that same piece of ground despite having cleared it of stones every previous year - I think the mice must be carrying stones into the greenhouse during the winter - but why? You've had to wait a while, but now things have really got going haven't they Linda? You must spend whole days keeping that garden looking so tidy and yet so full of colour. The planning that's gone into it is obvious - I'm more of a slapdash let's see what happens sort of gardener. I envy your nose that you can smell so may things even with a cold (hope that disappears soon) - after seeing your video I stuck my nose in my Sweet Honey for a full minute today and I think, maybe, I did smell something, but that may have been autosuggestion. Unfortunately we have a potted wisteria in the front small patio area which I can smell very definitely, and it suggests to me a comfort stop for cats passing through - but my wife finds it unoffensive. Smell seems to be a very individual thing. But it seems unfair that my sense of smell seems more attuned to the nastier smells. The different colours on roses is something I am just beginning to be aware of. I bought a bare root Meteor rose last autumn and the first flower was dark red but now new flowers are coming out orange, and my first Eustacia Vyes were pink but now new ones are getting orange/yellow tinged centres, and Sweet Honey seems to turn pink - in fact at the end of last year I was wondering why a pink rose was named after honey.Or are my eyes letting me down as much as my nose?

@nikkonch Thanks Nik, scent I think is different for everyone. I don't have wisteria so I'll take your word on that ! Many cannot detect Sweet Honey, so you are in good company. I've thrown the compost on the garden so the seeds may germinate on their own with none of my care. I've had that happen before. Hope you get over your cold soon and that the builders don't cause too much upheaval. Will be worth it when everything's finished. xxx

@wendybartlett6717 Hi Wendy, thank you for your lovely comments. Ghislaine is very tidy she doesn't drop petals everywhere and she is almost thornless too so you don't get any nasty bites I've had a few this week in the garden from other roses with thorns half inch long, the back of my left hand looks like I've been in a fight ! My fault no gloves. I should dig one of Ghislaine's many children up for you, I think I have over done it with Ghislaine's now she's everywhere ! I couldn't think of a better home than your garden. The snapdragons, the taller ones, I did last year. I left them in the ground they came back this year, they are huge now, they are almost as big as a rose haha how did that happen? I did do some from seed this year but they are tiny in comparison, such a shame yours didn't germinate but they will no doubt come up when you are not expecting it. The landscapers are working well they are very neat and tidy which is a wonderful surprise, you always imagine the worse don't you but so far I'm delighted, they've started on the patio today it looks very different already. Hope you're enjoying your garden and this lovely weather, take care xxx
