Toronto love to tease people with its many skylines. When I drove down Gardiner expressway, I thought that every skyline I came up on was downtown Toronto; until i drove further and saw this huge long skyline in the distance with the CN tower standing tall. I was like “ oh…that’s downtown” LOL. I absolutely LOVE Toronto and want to go back.

Yeah, there's a LOT of high-rise / high-density development along the lakefront, especially in Etobicoke and the old city core. I used to affectionately call that part of the Gardiner "condo canyon".

@@NebulonRanger it's really going to confuse people when the christie land is redeveloped as that will almost double the amount of towers there giving a really solid illusion of a city core

Great vid Mike! As a Toronto native, the eastbound gardiner expressway is in my opinion one of the best drives in Toronto. However, the road itself is crumbling and I wouldn’t be surprised if they demolish it or bury it like I-93 in Boston within the next 50 years

Eastbound, the Gardiner isn't too bad. Westbound it sucks because it handles most of the traffic going to the airport and cargo terminal. Took it to the latter a few times when I lived in Toronto, sometimes it actually took over two hours to get there!

Last time I drove the Gardiner was 20 years ago. Beside the CN tower, stadium and arena, this area was empty and you had a great view of the city and the lake. Now it's a mess of condo dystopia.

I took the QEW and the Gardiner from St. Catherines into Toronto to get to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, it was cloudy, cold and rainy that day in 2017. I remember this well; an amazing view. The Gardiner is one of the oldest in Toronto and plans are being discussed to take the current one down and replace it. Gonna be a hell of a job.

Great video of the Gardiner expressway! This is the route more travelled to the international airport here. The beautiful downtown toronto is worth seeing especially the CN tower

Enjoyed the drive on the Gardiner Expressway. Love the views of the both Downtown Toronto skyline and the other skyline. By the way, do anybody know if the urbanists going to get their wish and have the Gardiner torn down?

Don't see how. Traffic is so awful there now and dumping it onto city streets would make it abysmal. But it does need to be replaced soon.

Honestly, it should. At least until Park Lawn Rd. The highway is in a state of disrepair due to high costs, and it's right next to GO Trains which are currently being upgraded. It doesn't make much sense to have a downtown highway today.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I have no opinion on it as I'm not Canadian nor familiar with their politics or culture compared to the US.

@@MileageMikeTravels Something to keep in mind here is the fact that unlike in the States, cities in Canada are purely creatures of the province. This makes it doubtful that the entire thing is going to be torn down; the city doesn't really have full authority to do that even if it's a municipal road (the Gardiner and DVP are in this weird in-between limbo where they're officially municipal roads but major changes are usually run by the provincial government at Queen's Park due to expenses involved), and Ford's government likes to interfere in municipal politics a Hell of a lot. Something DOES need to be done about it, though. It's aging, congested and falling apart; truly our very own BQE.
