Serves 2-4 People
Ingredients -
1kg (2.2lbs) - Yukon Gold Potatoes (or any high starch Potato)
5 - Garlic Cloves, Minced
3/4 Cup (175ml) - Full Fat Milk
175g (6oz) - Salted Butter, Cubed
Seasoning to taste

Ok,.so I had a ton of cream and needed a recipe. I found your other garlic cream sauce recipe and my family INHALED it. I made it for dinner multiple times and have been a huge fan/subscriber/viewer since that video. I then made your cheesecake=perfection. Can't wait to make this recipe. I have always cooked my mashed potatoes with cold water but I never really knew why, so thanks for that fact about the exteriors going mushy! I always learn something new from your videos. I did see a comment just before about asking for more vegetarian recipes and I’d like to ask the same! I try to eat more plant-based at least once or twice a week and ever since I tried your chickpea curry I’ve been obsessed!! Would love to see more🥰 Looks wonderful as always, and I might just try this mashed potato recipe next time I make beef stroganoff! 😁

Hi Jack. I've never come across this before. I can imagine its fantastic. My grandma used to make sage and onion mash potato but i have no idea how she did it. I can remember it used to taste so good though. Great recipe mate. I will defiantly be trying this one though. Take care . Steve.

I grew my own garlic & Yukon potatoes & when I made this last night I was overzealous by test tasting the garlic butter with the fork I was stirring it with & brunt my inside lips in a fork pattern. I couldn't enjoy the dish as I could not feel my swollen lips & I kept thinking food was outside my mouth & everyone had a good laugh. The one good thing is today I still have swollen lips and they look pretty good on me!

Nice vid, my favourite garlic mash is to use the garlic cloves left over from cooking confit duck, quite often for a veggie one ill confit a bulb of garlic in veg oil on the stove top.

Truffle oil is a lot cheaper than fresh truffles which will then make the food cost a lot lower 😁

Chef Jack! I have a few questions and hope you can help- I am in the market right now for a good stainless steel pan. I was wondering if food/sauce sticks to the pan often as there is no added coating. I am personally against any kind of coating which can be harmful etc. With a stainless steel pan how does one clean the pan without causing scratches and damage? Does the handle also become very hot? Thank you in advance!

Thank you Jack for the video. I love having mashed potatoes with Pot Roast. A question: I notice you use Sea Salt Flakes. Is there a reason to use Sea Salt versus a table salt? Take care..

Hello stock gang master. It's yo boi Spyro once more. This recipe seems easy and delicious. That garlic butter seems a bit time consuming but i guess it must be worth the wait. I have one question though: How in the world did you end up with such a smooth and creamy result without any lumps at around 5:13? Just 2 seconds before that clip your mash seems kind of lumpy. Did you achieve that result simply by stirring or did you use a sifter? Please let me know

Hey Spyro! Hope you’re well. This recipe really is fantastic and I definitely recommend you try it 😉. The reason it looked lumpy was the fact that it had been through the potato ricer which made it look that way. All I did was spend a couple minutes pushing down on the potato with the spatula to get it nice and smooth. I cut that part from the video because I can’t imagine anyone wants to see me push down on mashed potato for 2 minutes haha 😉. If you do ever have lumpy mash though, the best and most efficient method is to put it through a sieve 😁

why cook whole potatoes? I chop them small to cook quicker and fit in the ricer! And what do you suggest with this, or do 4 people sit down to a monogustal dish? (I made it up, mono single, gustare taste)

In Cutting the potatoes before you boil them you’ll lose flavour and nutrients in the water. You can pretty much serve mashed potato with nearly everything, it’s a fantastic side dish.

It’s sea salt flakes that I have used. They have more weight than regular table salt and taste so much better.

If you slice or cut the potatoes in half the boiling time and cooking time can be made quick

The potatoes have more flavour if you cook them whole as the water can't 100 percent penetrate the centre which makes the potatoes centre steam instead of be washed away with water.

What species of potatoes do you have in Australia? Do you have what they have in Britain? Maris Pipers or do you have those in the USA, like russets?

There’s over 200 different types of potatoes and honestly couldn’t name them all. The main varietys we have in Australia are Sebago, Red Rascal, Red Desiree, Yukon Gold, Golden Delight, King Edward, Kipfler, Sweet Potato, Purple Potato. I wish we had Maris Piper in Australia (I’m sure there is, I’m yet to find them in Adelaide)

Its quite a heavy mash but this is Michelin styled mash which is extremely heavy with the fat. Glad you enjoyed the texture.

Michelin star rated mashed potato has more butter in it than potatoes, this is light compared to that. Trust me and at least try this once, it’s seriously amazing 😉
