Wow! The calibration method for the Garmin vs the older system is so much better! I can't wait to see your autopilot in the ocean when you do a waypoint navigation test. Congrats on another awesome improvement on your boat. Not only is this a much better system, but a much safer system when you are doing those long distance treks. Excellent work, Captain!
Thank you captain and yes I agree the collaboration is so much simpler than the older unit I'm very happy with it and yes I'll keep you updated and how it works on my long trips and thank you for watching captain
Thanks for the videos on the Garmin Reactor 40, I'm looking at installing it into my 41' power boat (using the existing older autopilot pump). Looks like a very solid system.
Hi Capt... another great video!... This new technology is fantastic, as is your installation! Good choice with going to a Garmin.... In the 1980's I installed a Navico autopilot on our 35' CT. It was coupled to a Ross LORAN, and did a pretty good job for about 2 years. I also installed three others, for friends, on their boats... After 2 years, the autopilots started to fail; all 4 of them started having the same issues. (The autopilots would malfunction, and turn hard-to-starboard without notice; a very dangerous situation)... Navico kept selling us very expensive replacement modules and other parts, but none of the new parts worked very long. After an investigation, it was found that Navico had intentionally installed a 'dooms-day chip' in the units; and made a lot of extra money trying to sell the replacement parts. There was a law suit, but none of the boat owners I know of got compensated. We bought all the units from BOAT/US (Yes, BOAT/US used to have a huge, nation-wide marine products supply company, and later sold out to West Marine)... I was surprised and disappointed that BOAT/US would not stand behind the autopilots products, and nor did they get involved with the Navico law suit. I suppose the words 'law suit' scares a lot of companies away...
Wow captain Dennis and awful story about the auto pilots that you had In something similar I had going with raymarine for 3 years the auto pilot sometimes did not want to get the headings and there replace different components and nothing changed everything kept going the same thing for 3 years so like you I got tired and what I did was I went with garmin since they have a better reputation on equipment and customer service, thank you for watching my video and for sharing your experience
I remember LORAN! My dad had an early unit and a depth sounder that spun in circles. He would look at the LORAN numbers and then frantically place them on the chart to figure out roughly where we were. He thought it was amazing. But he grew up a Dead Reckoning sailboat man, so he already had the skills as a backup. I follow in his footsteps. Love GPS, Love radar, Love Autopilot.... but I trust myself and my paper charts!
Congratulations on a successful install Captain! I now know for sure I will be doing this install myself. I will take your advice to go with the larger pump when I purchase this as soon as I take delivery of the new 256cc. Thanks again for the great videos and if you’re ever in the Charleston area you and the Mrs. are welcome here anytime and the fishing is on me!!
Awesome John and thank you so much for your hospitality hospitality you sound like an awesome person and if you need anything on your installation let me know if I can help. And I hope you're delivery of your new boat everything goes smooth captain that is an awesome boat
Good afternoon Captain and Congrats on another fine upgrade. I'm 3 months away from using my boat (Connecticut) and I enjoy that you take us along for the ride. I'm heading to Tampa in 10 days and bringing along the Yammy Waverunner. This will be my first out-of-state trip with it. Hoping to ride with the Fl Ski Rider on the 12th. Stay Safe! A really bad case of cabin fever ... LOL 😎
That is awesome captain with the Florida riders And I have seen their videos on RU-vid that's gonna be a lot of fun I hope You get awesome weather that week captain And enjoy my beautiful home state of Florida
Very glad to see that the new system works good and works the first time. I am still waiting on mine to arrive. I am glad I went with all Garmin so it should be plug and play just like yours. Great job brother!
Awesome captain I'm glad that I was able to do it before you so you can have an idea And you should do fine it's very easy just do step-by-step and take your time And let me know how it comes up at the end captain
Thanks Capt, I gave up on the magnetic fluxgate compass when I upgraded my systems. GPS compass are now not much more expensive than magnetic, they are very reliable and work out the box with little set up. They are extremely precise and can compensate swell and boat movement on your fish finder. They also include air temp and other extras. I was not aware of the helm sensor and thought this was a great safety device to unable Helm steering without pressing any button, I checked with the brand of my system and they also have it so I ordered. Things you didn't know existed yesterday become a must have the next day. (crazy stuff). Thanks for great series of videos on your outfitting. Fair winds!
Every time I watch one of your videos I simply sit and root for your success. I really enjoy your thoughtfulness and focus on safety and the love for your boat and its equipment. I simply wish you would get a great sponsor that would get you a boat with a sea keeper because I swear as much as you love sitting in that boat and fishing you're experiencing a lot of Shake Rattle and roll that you otherwise would not have to lol. I have one in mind and I can't fathom ever having another boat without one. Anyhow good luck love the shows man!
By the way your boat was made about 8 miles from my house and every time I ride by there I want to stop and give them a piece of my mind lol but of course there's new owners in it now. They are not the same people that built yours, it may be the second owners since yours was made.
Thank you captain I really appreciate your awesome support and yes maybe in the future a bigger boat with a seat keeper would be a awesome upgrade I know with it it stops 95% of the boat rocking that is awesome tool to have and yes a bigger boat will have enough storage to install 1 and 1 day captain thanks for what😉👍
@@joeybayer4460 Lol Joey but the owner of the company still there he did not sell that factory He only sold the brand to another company but he keeps operating that factory with his family that is for sure and if you do stop by tell him I say hello from the cooked pilot house😉👍
Hello captain it's nice to hear from you and yes I'm also excited to go out there fishing again this auto part installation I'm taking part of the installation I'm sticking some of my free time but I'll be out there soon captain thanks for watching you have an awesome day
Thank goodness for your help. I’m so glad to know that the Garmin Autopilot is so much better than the Raymarine. I had a Raymarine on a Nomad houseboat and was not impressed with the low speed trolling issue. I’m installing a Garmin on my pontoon boat and really hoped to was better than the Raymarine. Your very thorough videos are so very helpful. What a nice thing to no have your GREAT videos to help install this Garmin. I wondered if you are at all close to DeLand ? I’ll be there in the future to take lessons on the small Aventura Ultra Lite seaplane I’ll be building soon . Thanks Again so very much. 💫💫💫💫💫
I have the same autopilot like you. I use my boat for trolling for salmon. I run my engine between 1000 and 1500 rpm. and i rarely hear my pump. Its so nice 😊
You will love it captain because it's like having a second person on your boat especially when you're trolling you don't need somebody else to hold the steering for you
You made a nice installation and I'm glad it all went well for you. I also installed a Garmin autopilot with chartplotter 3 years ago, but from the start it has not kept the boat (a Fisher 30 North Easter) properly on course. Both the pump and CPU have been replaced for free, and all with Garmin's support, but unfortunately it hasn't led to the desired result so far. Hopefully I will find someone who will help me with it to let the machine do its job.
Great! No doubt this one more better than old one im happy to see everything work perfectly good work.next video lets see for the way points long range stay safe captain
Have my new Garmin 1243 chart plotter MFD and a new Garmin Reactor 40 system coming. Should be here this week. I’m have to apologize, I used a Nadine electronics company, here in South Texas. Otherwise, I’d have bought through your links, Captain. Can’t wait to get it installed and running. Excited. (Just replacing an old Garmin system)
That is awesome one and I am very excited for you and no worries if you couldn't use my links what really counts is that you thought about it that's really important to me thank you and if I can help in any way let me know👍⚓
@@clearwaterboating We need people like you you are the brains of the operation we're just the muscle but together we're brains and muscles And yes we do need each other😉👍
Thank you Daniel appreciate you coming back to the channel captain and are you getting it brand new And by the way congratulations captain that is an awesome boat you getting
@@OutOnTheReef It’s a 2017 with 20hrs older gentleman in his 70’s can’t use it no more due to his health. He has kept it like new adding trolling motor. I was looking at upgrading everything to Garmin graphs including trolling motor. Plan on Florida vacations to take it out no more that 10 miles offshore ocean fishing with family once yr. Mostly it will be use in lakes trolling for stripers.
@@danielvinson8099 That is awesome Daniel that is a great buy and mine was a 2016 so it was really close to the 2017 you gotta love your boat especially with very little hours great by captain. And yes I do miss my 190 FSH👍⚓️
Thank you captain and yes I'll keep making more videos in the future and as far as the speed goes garmin says that the 1.2 l pump is for slow trolling the the 1.0 pump is not So they recommend if you're gonna be doing slow speed trolling to use the pump I have bought you may want to double check with them but I'm pretty sure that is what they told me👍
Watched your video several times! Nice informative material! Thnx! Just thinking about a same or similar set (smaller 1l pump for smaller boat and smaller engine and the GHC 50 autopilot). I do have a question! Is there might be a autopilot functionality to disable engaging the autopilot above defined speed or it disengages if speed rises above predefined speed?
Lol captain yes Ice coffee would have been great but I forgot to pack that lol thank you for watching my complete installation captain ingredients from USA
@@OutOnTheReef Remind me when we test autopilot on 6 by 300Hp Ferry trans boat .awesome..but we celebrate with coconut fresh ..and end it with coffee and banana pie ..Is lunch time in Indonesia .and we watched again and again your video
@@agaramelan7319 wow Aga you are a awesome viewer ,thats why you are the only one i have mentioned in one of my videos😉and wow the ferries autopilot systems has to be a big pump👍
hey captain no more tangled lines when trolling for wahoo (can't wait to see you hook one up). electric reels next and you'll be trolling on style. Money well spent fersure! Be safe out there.
This system only avoids marker and depth contours that you shose but remember some gps system are not that accurate because they dont have a external antenna cap.
Wow there is a lot of money the system is only costing about $3000 so so they charged a new 4000 for installation that is a steep price. But if you're not handy it's better for a professional to do it captain I hope you get it done soon
Hello John and yes the other one the only thing I did was a straight line because it was not compatible with Chartplotter but this 1 is compatible so it can make routes
Hey Cap, glad everything worked out for you. I got this nagging question in my head. So, here it is. What kind of range does your boat have at cruise speed? 🤔🤔🤔
New Subscriber to your channel. Just wanted to say thanks for all your videos. Garmin should give you a referral bonus because I bought a Garmin Chartplotter and an AutoPilot set-up because of your recommendation. I'm also gonna pull the trigger on an external antenna. I'm near Davie, maybe sometime we can get together and talk boating and installation. I'm going to do the install myself. Appreciate any advise.
question for you, I'm in the process of installing the exact same setup on my twin engine/inboard. I also installed a new Seastar helm pump and eliminated the old Reservalve/Hynautic system. Everything is bled and the steering and pump respond flawlessly in the dockside setup process. But, I cannot get the "pump stall" message to appear. I've bled the system probably 100 times. Did you get past that step? I called Garmin and they said don't worry about it. It's a vented cap so any air should work itself out with use. The pump responds immediately with a tap of the port/starboard button. Just curious if you had the same issue. I splash the boat in about 3 weeks and will know more. Thanks.
Hello Tom I did not have that problem cap. I wouldn't know how to help you on that , hope yur system works properly soon cap. And check out a video that i just uploaded ,is about a external antenna you will find it helpful for your system cap. Navigate safe cap.
@@OutOnTheReef ok thanks. For anyone else, I connected with another person who had the exact same issue and it went thru the sea trial setup without an issue and works fine. So, I’m going to skip this step for now.
No captain it's not set up for that if you have bad weather or obstacles on the way it would not avoid it or maneuver over the boat for you For those obstacles
Thanks for your reply. Headed to Newfoundland this some with some 80 mile open water crossings in our Rosborough 22 SeaSkiff. Thanks for your channel. Merry Christmas!
No cap. Is been doing great the only thing Garmin Replaced my pump under warranty because it was leaking a little but other then that is been awesome 👌
Good evening Clifford and it's awesome to talk to you from my 2nd home Bahamas, The new batteries are working awesome especially they last longer I think probably about 15 to 20% longer than wet cells And the 2nd Is positive Thing is that it weighs about a 100 pounds less, And can wait for the covid regulations to end so I can go visit your homeland captain
@@OutOnTheReef Good morning Captain thanks for your answer. But can you give me a bit more details. I have a 23ft hydra sport wa. I on the wait list to purchase a 36 volt 115lbs trust minn kota with a 72 inch shaft. I also plan to get three 12 volt 100amp lithium battery. I usually fish 8-10 hrs when I go fishing in 2-4 ft seas. Do you think the batteries will last all day base on your experience. Without using your generator how much hours of operation do you get from your minn kota.
@@clifforddawkins2235 I have fish for about 8 hours and the batteries have not run out but when you have a heavier bigger boat than the minkota has to work a little harder so that might reduce maybe 1 to 2 hours of use And my boat is about 5000 pounds loaded, And how much does your boat weigh captain loaded
@@OutOnTheReef thanks for the information. My boat is about 4000lbs loaded. Are you familiar with the power pole change system. It seems to be pretty good and would charge your batteries while the motor is running. What’s your take on it. Do you think it would shorten the cycles on the lithium batteries.
@@clifforddawkins2235 Yes most likely because the lithium batteries require a lithium charger That's what I was told by the manufacturer of the batteries But I'm sure that it will work but like you say it may not make you batteries last a long time captain
