Awesome job as usual. These video’s are so valuable to anyone who owns a boat and wants to take on a project themself. What you have accomplished with that “crooked Pilothouse” is nothing short of amazing. If you had to contract out all of your build outs, modifications and service it would easily have cost you $50,000. You are an amazing technician and a great guy!
Thank you frank for your awesome Comment and viewers like you Brings the best in my modification and yes everything i have done i wouldn't been able to afford it, Thanks cap. For your awesome feedback 😉🏝👍
Thank you so much for your awesome support and I do have more videos coming on the installation hopefully you like those 2 thank you so much for being awesome viewer of the channel👍🛥⚓
You sir are a inspiration to me. When the time comes for my Parker 2120 I'll be watching all these videos again. Your very talented. Keep these videos coming 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much Larry I really appreciate your positive feedback and hopefully you will get your boat 1 day in the future captain so you can do all this work yourself And if I can help in any way just ask captain👍🛥
Watching your installations is like watching a “long lost art form”. This was the way my father taught me how to do a job too. Nothing like the shoddy workmanship that many of todays marina’s and boat dealers turn out because they need to speed up the jobs and cut corners to make their work more profitable. This is why I prefer to do my installations myself as you do. The proof of shoddy manufacturing workmanship is why your boat had to be unfortunately named “The Crooked Pilothouse”. . . . I’m sure you would have preferred something like “The Foxy One”😜
You are so Right cap. Thats why It's better for us to do our own work because we take pride on it and you're right they have to speed up the process to make more profits and the consumer loses quality on the way and you, And yes I love that name if my boat was not crooked I will call it foxy one lol😉😁👍👍
wow Cap amazing work cant wait to see the new equipment running on the water...but im sure it wil be great as i know you know your way around these types off things. till the next one cap be safe
Nice job Capt! You made the bleed-out seem easy! I have a bleed-kit that uses a different procedure and uses less fluid; that SeaStar fluid is 'pricey'.... The SeaStar manual lists 7-8 other brands of fluids that will work (mostly aviation fluids), but none of those are available anywhere near where I live.
Thank you Andrew and yes they're very pricey usually about $25 a quart And it's good to do this at least every 6 to 8 years to have new power steering fluid it really helps the system perform better, Mine was a little discolorated after 3 years but since I have a new pump I wanted to have everything new so I don't have to worry about it for another 8 years And thanks for watching captain have a awesome night
Very impressive! I like watching your installation and modification videos because of the level of detail you put into them. Not only do you have a better understanding of your boats systems, but the money you save in labor costs is awesome. Looking forward to the next video, Captain!
You are so right captain you save a lot of money and you learn to troubleshoot your system when any problem arises you know exactly how they function thank you so much for watching captain
@@OutOnTheReef did you close the return line isolation screw on the pump after you bled the system? I am having issues with vibration in my steering lines and have had no luck re bleeding the system
You really do do nice work and explained each step as you go. I am a bit confused in installing the shadow drive putting a tee fitting in the line. Could you provide a diagram for the layout of the hoses? In the video everything blended in to me and I did not understand where the hoses went. Thank you for all you're videos , Rob
Hello rob as you watch the video look at each host that I'm telling my viewers to install and make a diagram as I'm saying it and it's really simple I don't have a diagram But right there on the video you can see with all the hoses go go very simple captain I hope this helps
Very thorough and well explained, thank you. Curious as to why you went with Garmin over the Raymarine Ev-100. Were you having problems with the EV-100 handling your size boat out in the ocean with its type.5 pump? Would the EV-150 with the type 1 pump have initially been a better choice? Although a matter of opinion, its appears the Raymarine looks to be the easier install for the challenged do it your-selfer.
The rain marine is easier and the . 5 Pump is not enough power The best thing is to get the1.0 liter But I find out that the garment is more quieter and better performance But I find out that the garmin is more quieter and better performance
Another great video! Quick question - want to install the same system, I have 2 steering stations 1 up front and 1 on the deck. Where do you tie into the system???
What I know is that you have to install it at the main helm the lower helm not in the upper one but to double check that call garmin but I'm almost 95% sure is the lower helm that way the shadow drive can operate properly cap.
Greeting 1:46 Indonesia..awake middle of non stop rain since 7pm..So nice your boat.so clean.so we can saw your DIY clear and nice....One day hope your engine is 250 ..lol...
Hello buddy how you doing today I'm sorry about the rain and yes hopefully one day I'll have A 250 or A 225 horsepower Is that will really improve my boats power
@@OutOnTheReef Fine capt .some area of Jakarta City become swimming pool..while Omicron make a school close.noa student can increase Imun by swimming for Free.Lol...Yes sure one day have a new engine..( Yamaha or Evindrued?) and Also Aqua Map Garmin big screen.
Thank you captain for watching and I don't think you can use those you have to go to a hydraulic specialist supply store and get those fittings take the shadow drive with you so they can help you
Thanks for sharing. This is the only Auto Pilot Install video of Garmin on the web I see. Question: I was provided three fluid lines with my kit. I believe I need to have more lines than that concidering I am adding the shadow drive. Sea star classic tilt Single helm Same pump and GHC 20 Was given 3 lines. Looks like I need 6. I am not replacing an old autopilot, but adding NEW.
Yes you do captain and You need to purchase 2 kids of the Hydraulic hoses to complete The installation with the shadow drive, Thank you so much for the awesome Comment captain, And I hope your installation goes smoothly👍👍🛥⚓️
Yes cap i did buy a extra one set but is good because this way you have spare for emergencies and i placed the link in the description below of the one i used in this video cap. I hope it helps, navigate safe cap.
Nice job Cab but the way they installed mine is with quick connect fittings. Are you on connect the fitting no leaking a fluid take the pump out whatever you need to take out and put a quick connect back in and you’re done.
Lol captain yes I thought the same thing it looked like a IV and really the boat was going through surgery so it was a good illustration lol thanks for watching captain
Hi, I am installing the same pump, does the isolation screw stay out on the return line back to the steering helm after you bleed it. So the return line is operating all the time not closed off? Cheers
How much space is their to sleep on the boat? From the wall in front to the end of the cushion? Thinking of getting one to go to Visit a lot of islands in the Bahamas.
Nice video. I’m looking to install the same kit on my boat and the instruction for the pump says not to have a longer hose run than 10’ from the pump to the steering cylinder (ram). It looks like you have more than that-did you run into any issues because of it? It will certainly help my install if I don’t have to hold to that 10’ dimension. Thx.
Hello Louis and no I do not have a problem at all with my installation my shadow drive works perfect everything is just perfect And yes I know what you're saying that would take you a lot more work but if you do it the way I did it you shouldn't have a problem with it captain because I certainly don't have any issues it's been working for several months navigating far away from land with no problems hope this helps and I hope you have a great installation captain and anything I can help you with let me know👍
Starting a similar project today, out of curiosity why did you change the mounting location for your pump? previously you had it vertically but now you made a small platform for it. TYIA
I did this installation a long time Go cap. But go to the installation manual and is easy to follow from there, let me know if i can help in any otger way cap.
The host is I placed the link in the description below but the fittings you have to go to a hydraulic specialist company I have no links for those captain but for the hoses check out the link in the discussion below they're really affordable
The reason was it was it was Losing heading sometimes and sometimes it works perfect and it works perfect and it was due to the system was too small for my boat especially the pump But going with garmin matches all my equipment and it's more compatible with my equipment
yes cap and i placed the link of the same ones i use , hope that will help you cap, if i can help in any other way please let me know, and remember if you use my amazon links amazon will give my channel a commission and that will help me make more videos cap, thanks for your support and watching cap.
@@OutOnTheReef Thanks for the reply Capt., love the channel and your trips to the Bahamas and Keys. You need to get yourself an electric reel set up and Slow Pitch Jigging set up. . Keep them coming.
@@OutOnTheReef I have a question on the dockside wizard. I just received y Reactor 40 and in dockside wizard it suggest using rpm from NMEA 2 k engine if connected. Wouldn’t using the GPS be better for speed source? What option did you pick
The rain marine was giving me problems engaging on the heading And we came out to a solution that we think that is under size for my boat And that's why I got a bigger pump and the equipment is compatible with the chartplotter
@Roly1105 Yes that's why buying the kit only for the shadow drive and for the pump you gotta buy another kit And at the end of the installation you only have one extra hose which is the return hose
@sergeytitov7984 from experience Garmin is way better and great customer service too cap. If i had to do ot all over again i will still go with garmin, navigate safe cap
It's something that I've been doing all the time in my channel and basically I'd like to keep my privacy, my private life And my RU-vid channel separate
Great video except you didn't explain what you were doing. You just kept saying, Im going to connect this hose here. I'm going to attach this fitting here, etc.etc. You didn't go in depth telling what was what and lost me. I was going to try do do mine myself, but couldnt keep up with what you were hooking up. You didnt explain what was what until you said - this is the starboard line here. Good job though, you obviously knew ahead of time where everything was going.
I dont get something, Im going to install my Reactor 40 with a Smart Pump... shouldn't be much different regarding the hydraulic hookups... I thought that since I have 2 Seastar hoses coming from the stern to the back of the helm, (I currently have no auto pilot)... if I understand the diagram from Garmin, the port and stern lines coming from the steering ram both have T fittings (as well as shut off valves, buts that's another story); your hookup looks like you used only one T , and hooked one side into the pump... Im confused... I will watch your videos again, but am I missing something ? Look at pg 5 of this Garmin installation manual. static.garmin.com/pumac/SmartPump_Installation_Instructions_v2_EN-US.pdf
So wheres the 2nd T ? ...Still dont understand, the diagram from Garmin shows that the lines coming each from Port and Starboard from cylinder need to have a T to split them to helm, and to the pump, why does that work on yours ? Look at the diagram I attached the link in my comment above. Btw, great job on your videos, thanks.
