The Crooked Pilot House boat is really taking shape. I’d go anywhere in her. A. I. S. Would be the only thing I would want to add. Perfect install, Capt.
You're right the Crooked by the house is almost 90% complete. I'm still adding more things to it I think I'm going to sink it if I keep adding weight to it LOL
Very professional install! This is one of the best 'How-to' videos on RU-vid! In my video where I was showing what was behind the 'cover-plates' in the back of the pilot house, whoever installed my radar just bundled all of the excess wires back there; lazy on their part!.. LOVE your 'helper'; beautiful puppy! (and very funny ☺)...
Yes some installers are lazy to do connection so they just bundle everything up and hide it but as voters me and you we know the less weight on the boat the better and that electrical cord weighs almost 15 lb that you don't. And thank you for your coming about my puppy yes she's very helpful but she didn't have thumbs LOL thank you for watching Cap.
Brett im glad it helped and please to show your appreciation for my videos if you purchase anything from Amazon through mu link within 24hrs i will be issued a commission, i will really appreciate that to keep making more videos to help you my viewers. Thanks in advance ,your Co-Cap😉⚓
Just watched your video on the install and you really did a great job on showing how it’s done. I am ordering this radar soon to go with my new boat that’s on order. I will attempt the install! Thanks and we really enjoy your videos!
@@OutOnTheReef Hi again Captain. A question on Mounting the radar? How would I know if I need the mounting wedge or not. I want this to work flawlessly and if I need it I sure would get it. Thanks for all you help
@@Glory-Days-Fishing Hello John well you have to look at your boat when witness navigating and see if your bow is very high if your bowel is very high you need to compensate for the dome to be is it's level as possible it doesn't have to be a 100% in my case my bow is a little high so the wedge compensates a compensates a lot so you have to look at your boat when it's navigating and see how On level is your boat
@@OutOnTheReef Hi again Cap. Another question for mounting this radar. After the dome is mounted I am going to also have to install my Antenna for the VHF. Does this have to be any certain distance from the dome itself? My objective is to mount everything over the electronics box of the hardtop so the wires are easy to just drop into the electronics box.
@@Glory-Days-Fishing Hello John and I and I mounted mine about 3' away no problems no interference that is a good amount of distance 3 feet works perfectly for me
Thank you Captain a really appreciate your support it is not as hard as it looks it just takes a little bit of time hopefully this video will help people install their own
Coming from another captain that means a lot. And yes we need to save money are both are very expensive and maintenance is really expensive so the more we can do the more we are out there at the water. Navigate safe captain
Every time you drill into your boat my anxiety level increases. I don't know that I could do that. But great video. Would love to hear your feedback on that radar dome.
lol captain is hard for me to open holes too , but you should see the Minn Kotta trolling motor install i had to open more then 10 holes. and the Radar works amazing i love it. thanks for watching my channel cap.
I enjoy your channel. I just purchased the same Fantom dome, waiting for it to get in stock..... Wondering if you wished you'd put some washers inside the cabin to spread that load out a bit? Velcro was a great option since your assistant was missing thumbs, lol. I watched the next video you made as well, looks like you'll get a lot of use. I'm in Washington where it never stops raining. I picked up a 5 inch riser to get the dome up a bit, I'll be honest the waterproofing looks like it might be good for Florida but I'm not sure about the conditions here. I probably worry too much. Anyway definitely subbed and looking forward to more content. Tight lines.
Thank you for your reply. I hope to install this radar later this Spring…but was not sure how I was going to route the radar cable away from the VHF cable. Thanks again.
Just ordered a new 2320. I'm installing all the electronics myself to give me more options and to save a few bucks. I'm thinking about maybe going with a 24" Phantom rather than the 18". Do you ever have any regret going with the smaller version? Personally I'm like you, I don't like the look of a raised dome so I'm not too sure I will be happy with a larger one either. Thanks for all your awesome videos!
Finally attempted my install today. Everything went perfect and I used this video the entire time! Only issue I had was the factory bolts were too short with the Radar wedge. I’m having a hard time finding the Allen rod bolts. Which bolts did you use ?
awesome Jared , and you had the same problem then me , the bolts ware small, and i placed the link of the big bolts i used in the description below, it took me a long time to find them, hope it helps cap, thanks for watching👍👍
Great video nice and neat. Just a word of advise from a Parker 2120 SC 2003 owner where ever stainless screws touch the carpet put a plastic washer under the bolt head my carpet is all stained due to stainless screws rusting hard to believe but they do rust
Great great job--I’m happy you finally own that now.thats a very awesome thing to have when conditions go rotten on you out there. I see some comments on caulking that base to the roof and I agree totally.you may also want to add stainless finishing washers to the bolt heads on the inside of the cabin. Those bolts looked like you had JUST enough to make the connection but those finishing washers are countersunk so you should still be ok making the connection.also the heads of the bolts are damn near the same size as the holes you drilled so with time you could put a lot of pressure on those 4 contact points. Washers will transfer more strength to the ceiling of that pilot house and keep it much stronger.I know you don’t want to draw a lot of attention with the hardware on the ceiling but it will look more than fine.most importantly it will add strength and hold up to the pounding of the water and wind load on the dome.---it won’t take much time-do one at a time and it’ll be easy. Congrats on that addition man.like I told you months ago-your gonna love having that the first time fog rolls in on you👊🏻
That's an awesome idea Captain I did not think of that I just went with the washer they Supply me with but you know companies don't give you exactly what you need and yes it will be a lot stronger for pounding the ways I agree with you 100% captain and thank you for the great suggestion good looking out. Cap.👊👊👊👍
@@OutOnTheReef I’m glad your taking my advice and not feeling like I’m being a “know it all”!---I’ve been doing mechanical type work my whole life and I’m not a young man.bottom line is I know structure and the effect wind and wave action have on static items exposed to the beating that Ocean can dish out. Im always impressed when I see you do these installs.I see how much care you take and how neat you are-that’s the mark of a good mechanic.your also willing to accept advice like a gentleman and that is the best way to learn better techniques for the future. Keep up the good work and the awesome content👍🏻--JohnM-L.I.N.Y👊🏻
@@johnm5714 100% agree John i appreciate your knowledge and you are so right that will spread the stress of the bolt, viewers like you have helped me so much when I forget to do something it's much appreciated because I got more eyes on the install that just mine only can't see and think of everything, but that's where viewers like you kick in and help out, From a captain to another thank you for watching and navigate safe⚓👍👊⛵
You the man buddy! Nice job! It takes some nerve to drill holes in your boat. But you got the skills. Can you provide any info about what inlet you sail out of when you cross to Bahamas? Hopefully this year I get to make it down for the crossing. 🤞🏼
In Miami this to Marina that you could use Crandon Marina and Haulover Marina And there's other ones that are more private and more expensive you just have to search for them
Good job with the install. Did the placement radar block the Horns....? Do you ever check the difference in sound.....? Was there even a difference? Thanks!
Thank you Captain and no I did not make a difference on the horn at all the sound travels everywhere in front of the boat thanks for the great question
Wished I saw this before I installed my Garmin Fantom radar and didn't drill a 1 1/4" hole,,but did put a gromit in the hole, Very well done video,, Also you had the pliers or purchase them too
Thank you Captain and yes for now I'm going to go to the lake and show you how it works in the lake this more object at the lake and then I'll try it at See
Since the Raider has a 4 degree inclination the horn does not even touch the beam so there's no need to move it if I put a parallel I will need to move it but it's an inclination that it doesn't interfere with it
Great install. Very clean. I am installing mine soon and I contacted Garmin and the told me that cutting the power cord will void the warranty. Just an FYI..
Not if it's professionally done anyway if it is they have to prove that it was that that broke the Garmin and thank you for watching it for the great feedback captain
Hi do you have a plate mounted underneath your Antenna mounting bracket? I mounted mine using a Shakespeare phase III and the roof flexes a little bit when it moves back and forth.
Greeting..11:20 pm now in Jakarta lock down city...hows there..but we entertain our self by looking at your video..and always play burn out food hahahh with my son

@@OutOnTheReef i watch all using and looking for sanitizer. Remind me Of Will smith. At Im Legend..his back home and spray the sanitizer unless zombie find him
Is there a reason you didn't buy a 6' Ethernet cord? Did the Garmin come with threaded studs for mounting? Or were they too short or you didn't want nuts and washers exposed on the headliner? Thank you
Really doubt that radar has bird mode it's too small. radar's ability to resolve small moving objects is dependant on the distance between array. this is why you see 48" open arrays on 24' center consoles. Not saying it can't be done with that radar just that it probably doesn't have bird mode, you'll have to tune it in manually.
@@OutOnTheReef Never said it wouldn't just said it probably doesn't have "bird mode", I'm sure you can manually tune it to see birds out to maybe 2 miles of a very flat day. I used a 24" analog Radome to find birds for years, but man it's a lot easier now.
A Cable Clam on the Hardtop would allow the cables to be waterproof and able to remove the cables with the RJ45 ends still on....Saves time and money done the road when the radar needs to be removed for repair or damage. I use them all the time coming behind installs that use those stupid stainless clam shell and Gobs of silicone.
In my case it's very easy to change that cable I just run it Through the TikTok it only takes me 10 minutes to run that cable it's not a big problem captain the less connections you have the better the radar would read the more you split it the more frequency you will lose
Which electrical pliers did you use for your Radar rigging? I saw a cutting type and a crimping one....not the rj45....have those...thank you...keep up the great videos.....
Clean install!! I would run a bead of caulk around the base. Would have also run some on bottom of base around screw holes. Water seems to always find a way to get in. Great job though!! Looking forward to seeing it turned on.
@@motolifealways yes that will be a good idea to do I can always go back and do that real quick thank you for the great suggestion to you both ,good looking out😉
Cap can u see the birds with ur radar? i read that the newer domes like ur garmin fantom are powerful. While crossing the stream seeing a flock could mean a school of bait with a wahoo or mahi lurking below, if not too far off the heading, would nav that way do some trolling.
Nice install. My only question is if you considered adding a radar mount to raise it about 8” or so? I see the mount that came with it has a built in wedge to it. Asking because as you know, your head is above the pilot house roof when standing on the rear deck. If you ever do that, I really like the stainless Battlewagon ones. Powder coat ones usually go bad. Boat is looking good.
Thank you Captain in the reason I didn't use a pedestal for the Raider it's because I don't like the way it looks and yes the higher the better but when mine is running I'm not going to be fishing in the back of the deck my Raiders only going to be running when I'm inside the Pilot House to avoid exposure to the radar
Out On The Reef I agree with the look of the raised mount on the 2120’s. It looks a little funny for some reason when they are raised. It does look great flush mounted. I had a custom Bimini made for mine that connects to the cabin via a....I’ll call it a dodger. The way you use your boat I think you would love it. It keeps the sun out of the back ind helps keep it cool and give a place to stand/sit under while on deck while being able to still handle lines. Wish I could share some pics. Maybe I could add it to my uTube channel for you? I’m not good at it like you though. Great to see another 2120 guy making the most out of their boat. Hope to splash mine towards the end of March sometime.
@@akajbssmith7423 yes please I would love to see some pictures of yours if you can upload it to your RU-vid account and please let me know when you do that way I can see it and my next project on my pilothouse is a ice machine sounds crazy but it's very needed
Out On The Reef - Ice maker! That will be an interesting project. I posted a very crappy vid of my top & boat to my UTube channel if you want to check it out.
I am also considering the purchase and installation of the Fantom 18 radar. It appears you are routing the radar cable along the same route to your panel as your VHF antenna cable. Do you have any interference between the Radar and VHF? While reading the installation instructions for the Fantom 18, Garmin suggests routing the radar cable away from the VHF antenna.
I am thinking of doing the same install - is it necessary to create that ethernet end or was that just because you had too much wire and wanted to size it down?
You can keep the wire the reason I cut it is because I did not want to open a huge hole on the fiberglass but if you don't mind opening a big hole on the fire in the grass you don't have to cut the cable captain this wrap it up and put it somewhere hope this helps
hello cap and im sorry amazon had me removed them and i have no way to get that cap im sorry, but my recommendation is buy a lot of them and keep the one you need and send back the ones you dont use cap, hope this helps.
Noticed that the VHF RG8x cable was looped several turns. That will radiate RF in the console and reduce the power at the antenna. Otherwise, the radar install was perfect!
Hello I have question. I'm also planning to install same radar and garmin gps. Is there are any other accessories that I need to buy? Other than radar and gps unit.
I will be awesome but I wouldn't think of traveling at night but if I have to do it now I could do it cuz I have the radar but it's not something that I'm looking forward to travel at night it is scary out there or nighttime LOL
Hey Capt I'm not sure I'm not a garmin tech but from side view it look to me like your beam angle in directed towards the downward angle. You might want to check into the wedge maybe should be turn around to get a little up angle thanks just saying that is what it looks like to me JT 🇺🇸🐟🎣🌴🛥⛱😃😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I understand your recommendation but when you see the video when operates I have a Drone footage will show you that the Raider is level when the boat is in operation and when it's not it will be a little bit inclined down but that's what the manufacturer recommends to have on a boat like mine
Out On The Reef I got it now I believe that has bird function on my boat that would have to work find working birds find fish the only marlin I've ever had on and I did rookie mistake after he jump and I know better you know what it was ? Yep tighten the drag stupid stupid stupid I have a tld 25 w 40 lb mamoi high vis yell 700 yds 2100 ft don't don't don't touch drag once you have on fish you can chase him down down in Islamorada I cried live and learn but I knew already JT
