That’s great. Garmin always makes great gear in general. It will also be good even when it’s foggy out on the water. You did a great job installing it and Garmin is doing a great job to keep u safe at all times now. Be safe
Wow, Captain!! You could have really used that on your night in Bimini when the storms came up, and you had to move.......using your light! This takes the anxiety of having to move during a storm. I'm very happy for you. Calm seas to you, my friend.
You're so right Joe that was one of my scariest moments to move by boat at night time if I had this tool then I would have felt more comfortable. But now I'm ready thank you for watching Joe
Nice Job! You will love it! Here on the Chesapeake Bay if its a flat calm you can pick up crab pot floats at night! Keep playing with it you will learn a lot! Thanks for sharing!
Looks like it works great. Now you won't be concerned moving the boat in fog or at night. Nice unit and I like it uses the garmin display and doesn't require a separate one of it's own.
Nice video Cap and very informative. Don't know what else you can do to your boat to make it better. Looks like you have it all. Looking forward to your next trip. Be safe Cap.
Soon I will surprise you with one more thing that I'm thinking of installing in my crooked Pilot house I don't think you have an idea but you'll see it first
Thank you Clarence I really appreciate your great comment and yes on the Open Sea you be able to see the rain clouds a lot easier since there's no obstructions. Thank you for watching my videos captain👍😁⚓⚓⛵
Out On The Reef Just FYI, you’ll be able to see the actual rain return not the clouds. Pretty cool to see it on radar and be able to avoid if practical.
im very satisfied with you radar beginning from installation until the testing no thing can escape from you radar.very accurate no doubt to move at night.thanks captain you inspired me.keep up upcoming video.have nice day captain💪👍
I’m in the process of adding radar to my proline for Lake Michigan. I ended up going with the furuno drs4w and furuno gp1871f gps instead of the garmin
@@OutOnTheReef negative ,weather would not be displayed . A GXM 54 antenna must be installed..(600 $ ) with SiriusXM coverage subscription ..like 50 a month .The only thing we can see without this weather device is rain clutter but not tracking information :(
@@OutOnTheReef Hummmm maybe you will be able to see little more rain information since is more new radar..remember to update you GPS unit with radar on!!!
@@OutOnTheReef Just saw this " Doppler effect to detect and highlight targets moving toward you or away from you in different colors to help avoid collisions, find flocks of birds and track weather. Dual range shows close and long range split screen images at the same time, using a single antenna"
I am also looking for more video content on using the bird finding feature as it pertains to fishing, I know albacore schools tend to draw flocks of birds, that's half the reason I went with this Garmin that has the doppler feature. At 12:50 you pointed out some rain which is another great reason to go with a doppler unit, you should be able to see weather approaching from 50 miles away! Pretty awesome setup you have there. Clean setup.
Thank you Capt. Your videos have been a God send. Thank you also for sharing & teaching so many of us new /previously boaters so we re-learn can learn again . You videos give me hope. God Bless
good video as usual!!! Looking to see more inf about MARPA ( mini auto radar plotting AiD ) I think you will need a heading sensor ( 129 $) connected to you Nmea 2000 but will give you a more precise collision avoidance and radar target information..I recently installed in my old garmin radar GMR 41 and is showing things I never though I can see..is really cool ...I have two 7610 xvs gps Let me know if you have that option available should be in you GPS settings !!!
Okay-One more question sir-Will you be doing a full up to date tour of your boat one of these days ? You have her set up absolutely great and I/We/Us could use it as a sales tool to the family/Momma so to speak!
...WOW...!!! nobody should be able to sneak up on you..lol. and it will keep you safe from running aground or colliding with another vessel...great vid..be safe..
Great addition to your boat. Do you think she is now complete? I would say not, when you own a boat there is always something to add on! What model Garmin is your chart plotter? Again, great job Captain!
Thanks for this radar install/instruction video. Just purchased and installed a Garmin Fantom 18x this weekend. This is my first opportunity to have radar. I noticed a hum in dome when I had the transmit turned off. Do you know if yours does this as well? Wondering if I need to hook it up to a switch so I don’t drain my batteries when I’m not using the radar. Thought the MFD controlled the power consumption…
Congrats Andrew i haven't herd mine since im inside the pilothouse and yes is better to cut the power off wen not in use, i always cut the power of wen i store my boat after a foshing trip. Navigate safe cap
Thanks for showing this, I've just put and order in for one. Question for you though...are you running a heading sensor. I'm guessing you might be considering the raymarine heading display. I don't recall you saying.
I jealous of your electronics and windless, lol. Would love to add new ones to mine but the funds are not available right now. Congratulations on the successful radar install and test. What’s that white mount for on top of your helm? By the way, I made a crappy vid for you of my Bimini and stuff and posted it to my channel. Keep the vids coming, loving your 2120.
? - What do u think about a radar reflector to allow another boat to better see ur boat? Like the fast-moving ferry boat in one of your videos. Think ill be getting one for the 22, since its fiberglass mostly, to better show up on the radar of another boat especially in poor conditions like rain or waves.
How small of an object can it pick up? During lobster season there are many lobster traps out and they are hooked up to very small floats with rope. The floats are only 12-24" long
I wonder if you turn your gain up manually if it would then pick them up better?I’m just bought a garmin with fantom radar. I really want to learn that bird mode... where there are birds there are fish. Thanks for the reply
@@duanehankins7077 yes I agree they'll be some top fish like Mahi and tuna I heard a lot of fisherman use the radar for that is awesome but I have never used it for that
I am trying to get my radar imaging on my new GMR Fantom 18 to show just like yours, but I seem to always have way too much clutter. Can you share your settings please? I did not see where you adjusted your setting to get such clarity in your radar imaging unless I missed it.
@@davidlane2006 try other settings i dont quite remember off my head but i know one of those settings help a lot cap you just have to play with it cap.
Came back to watch this video since I just purchased and installed the Fantom 18X plus external 24xd antena with heading sensor, after calibration the heading on the antena bring down the gps error from 18 to 2.5...and update software and map to be centered..Now my question, to be honest precipitation and weather are confusing with structure, Podrias decirme tus settings to pick up weather..La razon principal que compre este radar es para detectar weather...Gracias..( te acordaras la tormenta que me cojio en Bimini ..lol )
Hello Shawn and this only draws 40 Watts of power and I have the generator running at night so I can charge the batteries if I want that will be no problem
Part of "Navigate Safe" is your Garmin system. Nice. Captain, can you do an episode where a national quarantine goes into effect and you escape on your boat? How do you survive for 3 weeks at sea. What weapons and provisions.
When I purchase the boat without any installation of any equipment I was doing 41 tops but after I started adding weight to it refrigeration air conditioning extra batteries extra anchor Grill and a lot of other accessories my speed came down to 36 miles per hour max but I don't run at that speed I always run at 27 miles per hour wish that's my cruising speed and best fuel economy so even if the boat when 50 miles per hour I will not run at that speed since I need to conserve fuel
@@OutOnTheReef Actually I believe it is a 40 w not 40 kw. Did you look into the safety aspects for people onboard of transmitting at lower wattage (40 w vs. 40 kw)?
