Wow, Garmin should hire you, your classes are well structured, informative and straight to the point. You have a new subscriber. Thanks for all the info.
I mainly use mine to just see water depth. But every single time I’m out I think of you, and wonder, What would Paul do to settings here (and start pushing buttons 😂). I really enjoy all your informative videos! Thanks so much and have a great weekend! 👍👌🎣🙂
Believe it or not, the factory settings work for the majority of uses and anglers, and I am not always pushing a bunch of buttons while out there. However there are definitely situations that adjusting your settings can help a ton, and depending on your water type some setting may need adjusted right out of the gate to get the best results. Glad you enjoy the videos and have learned a few things along the way. I love seeing how these videos are helping others out there become more comfortable with their fish finder and the settings.
Thanks for the videos 1C1F. They have really helped. I was hoping to see a video about fine tuning the CV screen adjustments. I don't see a gain adjustment for the CV. Also it seems that it doesn't show the fish very well. I am using a split screen with the traditional sonar screen showing fish and the cv for the bottom. It's interesting to see some of the differences. I sometimes fish where there are underwater trees. You can see the trees perfectly with the cv but the traditional screen shows the trees as fish. Hmmm. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks again.
I've been having the hardest time navigating and casting across a specific waypoint. Seems like the garmin reacts slowly to my direction changes so I have to keep that in mind as I make wide turns. Have to stop a turn early and let it settle.
I have had this happen before, kinda like the fish finder is buffering or something. Check your Sat signal power and location accuracy next time you have a issue and see if that may be a reason.
I've enjoyed your videos, and am subscribed. Question. Is it worthwhile for a shallow water lake fisherman to track down one of the original CV20-TM transducers to use with the Plus model? The cone description on Garmin's website appears to show it would give me a better look to the side of my jon boat near the shore. Thanks again for your great content.
I would think the Garmin website would be best to find one, possibly find them on Amazon. Plus honestly in very shallow water your cone will be very minimal especially in 5ft or less, so changing transducers will not really help any. The best thing for shallow water like that and scanning a shoreline is the 360 imaging tools or side imaging.
That will be 100% normal since the ball is riding within the sonar cone, since the ball remains in the cone 100% of the time it will show as a straight line. A fish would also be a straight line if it stayed in the cone as well. In my experience I always liked to see the downrigger balls, so I knew exactly what depth I was at based on speed.

Hello 1Cast. Do you know if the Garmin Striker 4 is waterproof? Mine went into the water back in the summer. After letting it dry out after a few weeks, it shows water depths that are jumping all over the place. The screen seems to be messed up too. Should I look at buying a new unit? Thanks for your help from the beautiful state of Michigan.
So the Striker 4 is IPX7 rated...which means basically it can withstand water for about 30 min at a depth of 3' 3" Also with what your describing, I would guess the unit for what ever reason may be toast if the screen is messed up. If it's not working, I would at least call Garmin and see what they say or might be able to do for you to help out
Does the transducer need to be plugged in to retrace a track? In other words, can I use this device as a stand alone gps if I take the unit on someone else's boat?
I probably could do that in the future, but to navigate to the way point you can just cursor over the waypoint and press enter then navigate to as well
Why is it while ice fishing (beside transducer) thru an 8 inch hole, my 77chirp shows my jig and fish/structure while in 200 chirp shows no jig and much less fish(basically less info)? Thank you in advance.
Could be that since the 77 has a wider cone, it is picking up more info. Depending on water depth the 200 cone can be rather small and easy for your jig to drift outside that zone. Lots of variables at play sometimes, but these would be my guess without seeing it.
