Garnt Reveals His Taste in Video Games 

All I've known about Garnt's taste in videogames for the past 6 years is that he likes Honkai Impact 3rd with how much he gets sponsored by it.

As Dunkey once explained, while he dislikes turn-based JRPGs and anime, he also really likes Persona 5, so it must be very very good.

What I thought Garnt's taste in games was: Mobile gacha games What Garnt's ACTUAL taste in games was: Plot heavy console games (and mobile gacha games)

I saw Persona 5 and clicked before I knew what I was clicking for 😂😂😂

The Persona and Yakuza series are my favourite games

I hate turn-based system and was never into jrpg’s but damn Persona 5 Royal broke that for me as well. I just amazing and the more I play the more I get excited. It never felt tedious. The soundtrack has been living in my brain rent free for a month now.

Berseria is actually one of the more popular games in the franchise Joey. Not as big as Vesperia, but it is liked.

I think P5 breaks the mold for turn-based rpgs because it's not just hitting the enemy a few dozen times before it falls over, but a puzzle you have to solve to exploit the enemies' weaknesses and usually lasts at most 1-2 turns. Even the bosses have their own mechanic, puzzle, or plot-related things you have to solve in order to beat them.

It feels like the JRPG Garnt was waiting for was Xenoblade it fits all his criteria he was looking for.

There is no way Joey said Berseria is one of the worst but Zestiria is one of the best.

What I love about this first part of the podcast is that Garnt made this list but through the whole episode he keeps remembering games thanks to Joey and Connor' talking about their 3x3

Making my own list like that is gonna be hard, but lets see... - NieR:Automata has to be on there because it was a legit life changing experience, best game ever. - Ace Combat 7 - Pokemon was my childhood, so gotta include one of those, but not sure which one... - Minecraft - Octopath Traveler - OPUS: Rocket of Whispers (as well as its predecessor but imma stick to 1 game per series) - Deep Rock Galactic - Owlboy - Florence I'm not as sure of every single one of these, but I cant really think of anything I'd put on here over these either...

Can't believe Garnt said he *needs* a narrative/story in a game so he can finish. I think he was like "I need a narrative reason to play it" .

Tales Of, Persona and Subnautica? Wow, I am actually impressed with his taste.

Symphonia is the one game I play the most out of all Tales games, but that’s all in the affection system. I’ve played it several times in the name of unlocking all costumes (though my most recent run is just for fun). The other ones I’ve played (Destiny DC, Abyss, Vesperia, Hearts, Legendia and Zestiria) are mechanically better save for the last two, but I’ve never bothered to make use of the grade shop and go through a 2nd run.

Whoever said Berseria wasn't good actually has trash taste my God Berseria is one of the best games ever!

I legit did the same thing Garnt did with Tales game but with Persona 5. Got to the last Palace, starts to feel empty, so I held off and it got to 1 year then YT recommend me some Persona 5 video and music and it got me down the rabbit hole and so I recently picked it up again, then finished it in 2 days and oh boy… now the emptiness is real😢

As a mass effect fan I would say that I’m glad to see it as one of the 9 games on there! It is a pretty good game I recommend it

One of my favorite games is Tokyo Mirage sessions, not because of the story but because some of the themes slapped and the Battle system comes from the SMT series ( Atlas ).

Actually turn-based tactic is one of my favorite categories in games and that’s why I would put Shining force 1 or 2 in my 9x9

I like Doom 2016, Doom eternal, dusk, Mortal kombat, DMC and Cod. My taste is Violence, shooters and Heavy metal.

If Garnt likes Persona, he might also like Shin Megami Tensei IV and III. It's like Persona but with a much more fun Battle system.

Yakuza and Devil May Cry, there you go if you want your anime-esque non turn based games. I really like that Square is starting to hire people to make good non turn based combat because I'd add the modern FF games to that list. From what I've heard they even got a former Devil May Cry combat designer to help out on the newest FF. Then they got Platinum, the original DMC team, to make the Nier series fun to play.

I think with P5, Atlus finally managed to nail a winning formula. Not that 3 and 4 were bad, but I sincerely hope that they use P5 as the new norm (mask, transforming outfits, better confidant abilities, fun minigames, exercise/meditation). Something about that specific genre (social sim/battle) is so appealing.

Persona franchise is my favorite. My list are persona 5, final fantasy 7, kingdom hearts 2, Pokémon soul silver, Zelda breath of the wild, sonic adventures 2, South Park stick of truth, animal crossing new horizons, Mario kart.

Persona 5 is a masterpiece, but Persona 5 Royal manages to be the better version of the game. Definitely one of the best RPGs to have been released since Kingdom Hearts (2002). Thank you, Atlus!

Everything Garnt said about Persona 5 is my exact experience with Persona 4 Golden.

When i was kid i really don't like any turnbase game, i don't even play FFVII (ps1) and Suikoden. I know its kinda sad for a gamer but once again i dont really like turnbase. And then i found P5 and DAMN I'm F love it! I dunno why.. Maybe same reason like Garnt (kinda)

I can relate to Garnt on not liking turn based games. I think the only turn based battle games I ever gave a shit about was Pokemon and that's it. Always felt like playing on a grid when playing those types of games.

Mine would be: Persona 5 Zelda BOTW Mario kart Wii Battlefield 4 Dota 2 Yakuza 0 Inazuma Eleven Pokemon Soulsilver Minecraft Also wanna throw Destiny in there too. Put hundreds of hours into that game

Same. Hate turn based jrpg. Tried persona 5 Royal on a whim because gamepass. 300 hours later I’ve finished Royal, Reload, and now halfway through golden. Persona 5 is a game so good I’ve straight up bought it for people instead of telling them they should try it.

Don’t get me wrong I love Zestiria, it’s my first Tales game but even I know it’s not the best in the series in the fandom. For me though it’s the best in my heart. Currently playing Vesperia.
