Hello, thanks for the video. He shot just over 1 million photos, not 8 million. Given that he was exclusively shooting film, 1 million is already incredible.

I like these videos, I think they're pretty cool and very interesting, the research you've done is awesome. The voice over parts are my favorite My one critique would be place your q cards or whatever you are reading off of somewhere else, its distracting seeing your eyes peer off to your right.

Boo Monster thank you! I am happy you like them :) actually that is one thing many people had been tell me. So, I actually fixed that and in the newer ones I not doing that eye movement. But thank you for pointing that out. I least I know there were more people noting that.

I'm not sure what you mean by your title "The First "Digital Photographer" Shooting Film". Winogrand shot film exclusively. Could you please explain what you meant by that?
@aboutphotography
@aboutphotography 5 лет назад
So it’s just a little joke. Since he shot so many photos it was almost like he shot digital. Like nowdays digital photographers shoot many photos because it does not cost them anything. Thats why it is like he was “digital photographer” but shooting film. I hope that makes sense.

@@aboutphotography makes sense now you explain it but as a title it’s misleading and a not funny.

As a huge fan of Gary Winogrand and also a visitor of his exhibition Women are beautiful in Vienna, I can say with clear conscience, that this project was by far his worst one. I understand the objection of sexism and voajerism, but by my opinion two, maybe three photos in the project Women are beautiful fits the level of Winogrand's other projects. All of his other books are a lightyear better.

Yeah, I think this topic is getting more and more complicated nowadays.
@BorutPeterlinPhotography
@BorutPeterlinPhotography 3 года назад
@@aboutphotography I agree, but even at the time he made the project, it didn't won many sympathies. Or at least that's how I remember.

1 million not 8 million. that woul have been 10 rolls of film ever single day for 50 years. Still, 1.5 rolls a day every single day is a stretch but why not!
@nickfanzo

Thanks here is nothing sexist about “women are beautiful.”

You get a few wrong facts in the video. -He used a lot of telephoto lenses, Largely omitted on the video. -The reception of his book Woman are beautiful isn’t exactly what you mention. That’s probably what you think, but the book was very well promoted and accepted in all the art circles. The image of the lady speaking on the telephone booth has receive International accolades, he very explicitly said the situation in which he made that photograph. Those images where made in the 60s whereas the book was release in the mid 70s. By the release of that book he was already shooting other things in general. -You mention he didn’t like to be call Street photographer: That’s another NO 👎 of your video. The term wasn’t being thrown out as loosely as it does now days. He even said when ask about the type of photography he made and quote “Photography is about finding out what can happen in the frame” He had a mantra of “Everything, Everywhere and Everyone can be photograph” he just happen to Shot commercially and like to explore the city looking for images to make. All in all, this is not the best inside by far about Garry Winogrand around and a lot more thought and research is needed. Is not just making videos of inconclusive facts and putting them out there for the sake of it.

Thank you for your comment. Just few things. - You are right with telephoto lenses but mostly (what I have found) he shot with wide angle. -About the book: In my opinion the book is exacly what the name is. Street photography of women. I don’t think the book is bad. I have just presented the opinions I have found (that are also btw mentioned in the documentary) - about the term street photographer: There is a video here on youtube called “Garry Winogrand - Photographer” by Michael Engler. Where he himself says that. Check it out from 0:50. It is also mentioned in the documentary about him and several other sources I have found. Over all I have to say I am really cross-checking everything I mention in my videos and never go with one source. That being said I am grateful for the feedback and I will try even harder next time 🙂
