For those of you whining about The Roots backing Gary - they were on the remix... plus they're THE ROOTS. It's a damn honour to have them backing you. Powerful performance.
What did you see? This was garbage. It doesn't matter who you are, when you hit the stage you better perform audibly at the least. This would've sounded better in my one room flat with me engineering it.
Easily the dopest performance at the Grammys this year, actually, the best in many years. Gary Clark Jr., one of the top guitarists around, backed by the Might Roots.. Are u fu^*ing kidding me!!! Incredible song! Step up the likes ppl.....
Thanks Gary all of this is my message n you speak the loudest in my tone of voice...your biggest fan ,my 11 year old son is playing this on his guitar with an expression on his face like yours ,excellently done ,your burning some skin with this song
Couldn't agree more, in its raw form......its one of the most powerfully loaded songs I have heard in generations. (and in my 50's). Phenomenal Artist and song writer.
So damn good. What an important message, and what a great way to send it.. I still can’t get over him literally making his guitar sing what sounds like words. It’s awesome.
Sorry, I have to disagree with you. I looked up the lyrics to this song and they are stupid. Complaining how horrible it is in the US. Name one country that treats people better and offers more opportunity for freedom and success. Then to include the "N" and "F" words multiple times is just ugly. Gary Clark Jr. certainly isn't oppressed. He is richer and better off than I am or anyone I know.
Gary is the best, ain’t nobody can get him now. The last album is awesome and he’s on fire. I had a chance to see him live and meet him after the show in Paris last vacation. Such a humble and nice guy. What him and Zapata do live I call magic. Hendrix would be proud. Cheers from Rio 🇧🇷
I can guarantee you that most of the people in the audience don't even care about the meaning of this song. Gary Clark Jr right now is one of the best guitarists on the circuit and horribly underappreciated in the music industry outside of other guitar players. I don't think people realize as well just how many great black guitar players are out there right now that don't get much recognition outside of guitar media circles either. Christone Ingram is amazing, Robert Randolph (slide guitar) has been doing great things for almost 20 years now, if not more, Eric Gales is incredible, Tosin Abasi is pushing the boundaries of instrumental shred guitar and you've got Gary over here doing what he's been doing for almost a decade now, creating great rock and roll. These guys are great and I love listening to their music as much as any other artists that I enjoy.
I really appreciate Gary Clark jr. Not only as a fellow musician but as a person and what he has to say. I've been hearing is stuff for a few years, seen some interviews, Gary is a real down to earth guy. Very cool and mellow, but when it comes time to play can undoubtedly bring the fire. Great performance, and here is to many more to come.
great message. Great guitar. great song. I saw a young boy of around 6 walking down the street recently singing ""THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND. THIS LAND IS MY LAND"....by Woody Guthrie and it MELTED MY HEART. This land is for EVERYONE and we need to keep singing that!
This song needs to become a banner for this cultural moment. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about the tragedies and generational systemic injustice. #blacklivesmorethanmatter
Blessed 2 have seen GCjr in Baldwinsville NY & Port Chester NY.....front row both shows...Best Gig I've been 2!!!!! B4 he became a Grammy winner multiple times.....Thank u for our conversation outside in Port Chester NY.....
I am glad this is on U tube I didn't look at the Grammies, cause I am not A fan of this modern day hip hop or theses new artist with computers and producers with youngers with no talent and skill to play a instrument or write there own music...artistry , and musicianship has been thrown away by these corporate record companies...until I saw and heard this young man......Music has a chance ad long as the industry doesn't push him out into the cold....only the future knows....period
just WOW! fellow austinite here ✌🏻relocated to Tulsa, OK ... so proud of the things you're accomplishing!! this shit is so powerful ... thank you for sharing it with the world 🙏🏻
Wow.....just a reminder that WE still have a long way to go in race relations and life in general! Thanks man for writing this song and living your life the way you want to!!! Much respect to all the people who aren't racist and life is worth living no matter what color you are!🤘🏾😊
J Johnson I’m not hating at all. That’s the truth of the matter. GCJ (and a lot of other artists) play a lot of different instruments, most of them for brief periods, before returning to their old standby.
You can not say GCJr didn’t turn it up. This brother is sending a message for becoming the next GOAT of the strings. Jimi Hendrix have pass the torch. 💨💨💨💨💨
🔥🎸🔥 Looking good and sounding great! Although I love seeing Gary Clark Jr on the Grammys any time, it's about time he showcased his original music. Best performance of the night for me.
I just discovered this young man last year when he performed on the late show and I have been a fan ever since......watching him reminds me of HENDRIX in his youth ....wow what a breath of fresh air.....maybe it's hope for the future of the music and the true artistry and music....period
...em, no [actual] bleep, but at first listen it seemed like someone at the front of the house muted the mic. Upon review, I see what you mean. The vid shows Gary doesn't mouth the lyric in question either. Interesting-er! Tyvm...
