Sheff was one of my all-time favorite players. Hated when he left the Braves. Can't believe we didn't win a WS with him, Chipper, Andrew and Javy the boys.

I know. It was such a tragedy. I got to go to a pirates game where they hosted the Braves. I saw Sheff and Andy both hit HRs in the same inning. It was such a good lineup. Furcal, Giles, Sheffield, Chipper, Andrew, Javy, Vinny Castilla, Julio Franco. I mean just wow. 😮

I’m a 35 year old lifelong Braves fan and I still remember going to a game as a kid when Gary Sheffield played for the Braves and I live in South Carolina so I didn’t get to go a lot but I remember I was SO excited to get to see Gary Sheffield’s batting stance in person. I was jumping up and down when he came up to bat. One of my favorite memories

I agreed with Sheff 100% Some writers or reporters don't like some players and then they try to destroy their careers.

I remember reading a Sports Illustrated magazine article back in the day, when Gary Sheffield talked about working out with Barry Bonds for a couple of weeks. Bonds left him hanging, not attending any workouts, but Sheffield did ADMIT to putting the cream called the clear during the workouts. Later, Sheffield said, he didn't know it was steroids and stopped using the cream soon after.

When he was with the Bravos, they had one of the scariest lineups I’ve witnessed in person. Chipper, Sheff, Andruw, Javy. I think Javy led the entire NL that year. The lineup now is similar. I hope they win with it this time. I really hope the old timers in charge of cooperstown open their eyes to see how much god given talent this man possessed. He deserves his spot.

Great interview. Love the truth telling about today’s game and inflated pitcher velocities. That mentality he had to what Millar said is what needs to return to the game to save the game.

Sheffield's correct about 2004... it was pitching. Yankees pitching got figured out by Red Sox hitters, and Boston's pitching found their form and shut NY down. The first two Boston wins were extra inning walk-offs. However the final two, Boston won fairly decisively at Yankee Stadium (Shilling's bloody sock game and the game 7 blowout).

David Ortiz isn't in the Mitchell Report. But his name is associated with the 2003 survey testing of banned substances. Ortiz was clean during all the drug testing era with penalties. Where Manny, ARod and others were dinged. Ortiz was clutch in late innings and playoffs. But what annoys me is the total pass he gets for his childish behavior (broken bullpen phones, smashing bats, interrupting his manager's presser over a scorer not calling something a 'hit') by the Boston media, while always gave legends like Ted Williams, Yaz and Jim Rice a hard time for their standoffishness.

There is no doubt that Sheffield was one of the most imposing and dangerous offensive players of his era, His statistics are HOF worthy. HOWEVER, there is also no doubt that he is a sketchy, volatile character who clashed with teammates and others and had multiple run-ins with the law. He was always a big race-divisive guy too (I'm surprised none of that came up in this interview). I am highly suspect about anything he believes or says. He was a great player, but not so much a great person or ambassador for the game.

His numbers speak for themselves, he doesn’t have to be what you would consider a great person. Theres many racists from the old days in the hall of fame and no one stopped them from getting into hall of fame so that just shows the hall is a joke

I think it's Alex rodríguez. He said the guy has about 150 more Homers than him. A rod, come close
@vidowatcher91
@vidowatcher91 4 месяца назад
@@islander5858the reason I didn't think of ARod was because he said he had the meeting in '07, which is the year ARod hit his 500th. Sheff had 455 at that time. Idk though, Sosa had 609 at that time. But he missed 2006, had 14 in 2005 and 21 in 2007. So maybe Sheff closed that gap. Possibly we're missing someone else?
@islander5858
@islander5858 4 месяца назад
@@vidowatcher91 it was definitely Sosa. Because Gary said that the guy had 150 homeruns less than him and now got 150 more it seems to me that is Sammy Sosa. Although Sheff is a little off on the numbers it is clearly Sammy Sosa, now that I analyze it for a second time
@vidowatcher91
