Thanks for you effort in producing some in depth explanations. I learned a lot. This is the only in depth explanation of oxy propane cutting that I have found.

Absolutely awesome work. I'm a total amature just getting into oxy/propane and your explanation and demonstration of the flame profile was exactly what I needed to know. I am very grateful for all the time and effort you put into your presentation and I can assure you I'll watch it many more times before I'm comfortable using my equipment. Many many thanks.

Awesome video! I love using oxy propane setup. You should look at the surface mix oxy propane torches used for blowing glass and the surface mixed torches that use oxy hydrogen for blowing quartz glass and there is even torches made out of glass for scientific glass blowing. Young man, this video is very helpful to me because I don't use my gas cutting kit very often and I admit I am not very confident with it. So thank you for taking the time to show the detail, particularly in establishing the right flame. Also, the video was interesting because of the cutting examples shown and in particular the venturi effect with the coin.Now I have seen that, it will help me understand more about distance from torch cutting tip to the material surface. Top marks Weldorado, I doff my cap in respect to young man!

Well budy you made an awesome torch and I am sure it can reach temps up to 900-1000 C but I Wouldn't really suggest the combustion inside the tube cauze due to intense heat the tube is gonna start weakening until it probably will fall out. (Sorry for bad english, I am from Greece but I wont all the audince to get what I am saying) rather than that an amazing video keep going with the good work.

very nice that you make time for this. I already have quite a bit of experience with the old / antique model acitylene oxygen burner. but today ordered a new burner for propane oxygen. with the star like shaped nozzle. thick steel plates and heavy equipment suddenly seems to appear more in my shop. that is why it was really time for an upgrade.

Hi, great video thank you Is it OK and safe to use a 2 gauge acetylene regulator with propane ? I am making a pair of forge venturi burners and cannot find a 2 gauge high pressure regulator for propane cheers OG
@weld-deluxltd7635
@weld-deluxltd7635 2 года назад
In some countries propane bottles got different connector to the regulator this may prevent you from connecting acetylene regulator on it. Propane bottles are relatively low pressure as the are full of liquid gas that condenses at relatively low pressure. So if your regulator can physically connect and form gas tight connection you will simply have to adjust to flow what you need, however it will always show low pressure even on brand new bottles. Do not be greedy and get flash back arrestors and one way valves
@bigoldgrizzly
@bigoldgrizzly 2 года назад
@@weld-deluxltd7635 thanks for that my friend. I have already bought one way and flashback arrestor, I may be old, but I intend to live for a long while yet ;

Is it possible to cut steel using only propane without an oxygen tank as well? As I understand it, the temperature is high enough, but does it need anything else?
@weld-deluxltd7635

No, it is the Oxygen that does all cutting. It is all in the video

maybe you can help me out? I have a victor journeyman 350 and I put in a number 2 propane tip. I have an 80 cfu bottle of oxygen and a normal cylinder of propane (Amerigas). I use the provided oxy/act regulators as the act fits propane oufit. Victor's chart says to set oxy at 40 and propane at 10. I can't seem to get a neutral flame as it seems the oxygen just snuffs the flame out everytime i try to open the valve. when i get close to a neutral flame, I pops like crazy. I know propane needs more volume of flow compared to acetylene but I just can't get it to flow right. Even at a stable (?) neutral flame, when I depress the oxygen lever it backfires and instantly blows out the flame. Should I set the regulators differently? The tips are brand new and never really used since I can't solve the problem.

Hello, please bare in mind that I never used any equipment that you described. In addition to that I have little to none of experience with burners that are not 3 tube as explained in the beginning of the video. So what comes next is not advice but rather food for thoughts. It looks like burner that you described is of injector type so normally those operate on higher pressure and flow. As I mentioned in the video they need flow of O2 to suck fuel gas. So much more critical for having right pressure and flows. Finally nozzle it has to be for propane in 3 pipe burners and I have no idea about 2 pipe variants. Sorry I am not much help here. Best advice I can give you is to contact manufacturer of burning equipment of a similar type (2 pipe) and ask them. I have googled VJM 350 and the prices that it shows me in the range of 350-650USD for this money you can buy 3pipe type torch in UK + Live long supply of burning nozzles and have it shipped to you. Honestly it is much more easier system to use and a lot more safer one too. Sorry for not being as helpful as you hoped for, I haven't got any experience with your type of burners
@jakecarter4407
@jakecarter4407 8 месяцев назад
Did you figure it out? Are you operating the torch correctly? Open the oxgen valve fully on the handle then adjust the valve closest to the tip for the cutting flame. Make sure there are no leaks. I've read an oxygen leak can suck in regular air and produce poor results.
@omarmorales6437
@omarmorales6437 8 месяцев назад
@@jakecarter4407 yeah turns out the torch was defective :/ Got a used torch which takes the smaller tips so I just ended up using acetylene in the end.
