Great video as a hvac student this is one of the best straight to the point training videos i've seen. When i'm in class with 30 other students its often difficult to see every step being performed by the instructor also it is even more difficult to get alot of hands on in a class that size. I can pause and go back over sections to get a clearer look and better understanding. Thanks Again WX TV

This was a pretty thorough inspection. I would like to have seen a total static pressure reading and a static reading on the supply and return to help determine where the airflow problem is.

Enjoy the series. In regards to this furnace a couple other suggestions. The furnace was still running a high temp rise. Most limits on a forced air system normally don't exceed 200 degrees with the exception of new furnaces where the proximity to the burner is very close . As for this furnace it was belt drive. The pulley on the motor is adjustable. By loosening the set screw and turning the pulley in, rpms increase. Also I would have derated the valve to 3.25. If not,filter plugs= limit out

The amp draw should be measured with the door to the motor compartment CLOSED. It WILL change.

when you checked the fan motor amps they where high because your door cover was off. Your efficiency test may be off since the burner cover was off during your test.

The return duct dimensions are two small for the output, see comment from video one.

I think these old Janitrol units were built to last forever! It is great that you could get it up to it's maximal efficiency. Do you know if this vintage Janitrol Furnaces were still using the "Duratube" heat ex-changer? Great video!

I wouldn't say anybody. Most people are idiots and are more than likely to kill their entire family, including the dog. Better to call a professional!

Thanks for the price... He seems to spend a lot of time on this unit/house.... $100 looks like an hour for labor.... the total video is about an hour... This master plumber does everything! So, this should be about 2-hrs of labor or about $200 in RDU/CH NC, but he does an excellent job. Is his procedure normal for a checkup?

It probably depends on how much is wrong. I just had a checkup done; it was about $100. No problems though.

nice videos, I watched all 4 of them! thanks I've learned a lot... my only advise would be to replace the belt... they're so cheap, if you take all out mind as well...! and I had a question about CPH (cycles per hour) and how to change if possible... (in these old furnaces if possible.. still looking)..

Did the blower motor have a higher speed to lower the temp rise?

Where do you find an HVAC person like this? When my furnace is serviced for the winter, the technician changes the humidifier and air cleaner filters & checks that the condensation pump is working and the furnace turns on. I know my service company does not have technical expertise to do this type of work. I have asked for this type service in the past and have got negative response from them. Should I contact American Standard/Trane for this type service? What is this type service called?

Denis Slota this would be beyond a typical service check but they should do more than what you've listed

What ever happened to adding an inlet for the combustion air, due to the small size of the room in the 1st episode?

how much would it cost to do a complete furnace checkup like this?
@waydav1s
@waydav1s 11 лет назад
You mention in this video that you are using "30 weight" oil. I hope you do NOT mean 30 weight MOTOR OIL, like is use in a car... correct? The correct oil for sleeve bearings is "turbine oil" ,oil that is NON-Detergent. Detergent breaks free the particles suspended in the bearing and turns it into lapping compound, seizing up the motor/ blower wheel.
