Recently I've been looking at a lot of Furnace description and diagnostic videos. This is absolutely one of the best.

A run capacitor's job isn't to store power like a battery or give more power to the motor. In fact, it's very unlikely that little run capacitor will store energy for more than a second or two after the disconnect is turned off. Single phase inductive loads generally push your current and voltage out of phase with each other. This is true for all PSC motors. The capacitance of the capacitor counter acts the phase shift between your current and voltage caused by inductance and gets them back in line with each other. Without the capacitor the motor will pull too much current, create a ton of heat, possibly fail to start, and cause the motor to cycle on internal overload leading to a very short life for the bearings and windings of the motor.

For furnaces? Check out our "playlists" and go to the one for furnaces. There are several for motor troubleshooting, airflow, etc., and we are working on more.

Is it possible for those tubes in the secondary heat exchanger to get clogged or crack. And what would cause that? Thanks. Awesome video btw
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 6 лет назад
They could get clogged. If they are clogged on the inside, it could be due to incomplete combustion, debris in your combustion air, or other factors. If they are clogged on the outside (the fins), it would be due to your return air being dirty (i.e., lack of filtration)..
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 6 лет назад
Cracks are more likely to occur in the primary heat exchanger where the temps are the hottest. This is usually due to too high of a gas pressure or too little airflow. Cracks in the secondary would be uncommon.

Do you gas analyzers to test for proper operation and if so what is normal? My service tech says it's the only way to prove correct operation. He provided me the numbers and said I needed additional service. Thanks!

Yes, you can use a combustion analyzer on a furnace, just like you can use it on a boiler. That may be a good subject for our next video...

do the condensed air gas furnace made by carrier pull all the poluution and pollen and molds into home i tested my drain tube water coming out its positive for toxic molds and noticed when gas is off it pumps cold air through vents when fan running
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 4 года назад
All brands of condensing furnaces work the same. They can be installed to pull combustion air from outside (2-pipe) or from inside the home (1-pipe). However, when combustion air is pulled from outside (where pollen comes from), it just runs through the heat exchanger and then back out the exhaust. It does not mix with the indoor home air.
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 4 года назад
Some homes, in addition to combustion air, also have intakes for fresh outdoor air. In those cases, pollen can enter the home, so good filtration is recommend.
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 4 года назад
Condensate water, for all brands of furnaces, has an acidic nature and products of combustion. It should not have mold, though. Perhaps mold is growing in your condensate pan on your evaporator and it shares a drain with your furnace. Or perhaps mold is growing in your furnace condensate trap and it needs to be cleaned.

If you have your thermostat fan setting in the "on" position (or you have a ventilation intake system also controlling the fan), then the fan will be running when the heat is off. This is normal. If the air is cold, you may have leaky ductwork in an unconditioned space sucking the cold air in.

Why does no one make a video on an electric furnace?
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 3 года назад
Try searching for "air handler" or "fan coil," instead. In many parts of the country, including Chicago where we are from, the term "electric furnace" is not used.

single stage carriers suck people! junk class action lawsuits for years for carrier knowinly making crap parts
@TECTubefilms
@TECTubefilms 4 года назад
There was one class action lawsuit that we are aware of regarding Carrier furnaces. They stopped using that style of heat exchanger in 2012. They also have been replacing those failed heat exchangers and/or giving the consumer an option to change to a different style furnace. Manufacturing warranty failures happen for all brands and all industries. We measure the brand based, in part, on how well they respond and react to any issue that happens.
