Omgosh I so need a neighbor like you!! My two right knobs won’t turn and one won’t press in. But unfortunately I don’t have an amazing hub of tools like you. Plus I’d be terrified using the torch to heat the pieces up. Well done you. Especially if it was done as a kind neighbourly thing to do. I live in the UK and we have nasty weather. But when it’s hot everyone wants a bbq 🍗 😂. Mines not been used for 2 summers as I was in hospital both summers. Thank you on behalf of your neighbour. 👍🏻

Thanks for this. I had a stuck valve. $95 to replace (for an old grill on its last legs); a full one-quarter the cost of decent new grill. It never would have occurred to me, but heating that puppy up freed it up. The valve is good as new (but, of course, the rusted/oxidized/stripped/broken screws are the challenge now).

Great video. I bought a Grand Cafe Grill almost 30 years ago and it’s still going strong, but this year the valves have been problematic as they are quite stiff, and replacement valves are not available. Your video provided critical advice. Many thanks. Much appreciated.

Great video.... thanks for doing the hard work! just an FYI, the "pilot hole" you noticed is actually a gas orifice and controls the volume of gas that is mixed with air in the burner tubes. Common reason for low flame volume is a part plugged orifice. Some of the BBQ's I've worked on (ie Napoleon) use a piezo electric crystal to light the actual burner tubes. I noticed a lightning bolt on at least one of the gas knobs. the battery operated igniter is usually for the side burners or the infrared gas bar at the back of some BBQ's - but again, a really great job that anyone can follow confidently! There's really not much to those pits and most of the stuff that wears out can be found at Home Depot, Academy or Lowes. I had no idea the valves were that easy to bring back, however. I never fail to pick up some bit of knowledge on your videos, Bob! Many thanks for all that help!!

Well, that was the first time I cleaned a grill valve myself. I knew it was rusted, so I figured I would take a look at it. Did you see the link to the burner assembly? I'm happy I was able to fix it because the replacement valve set is $130.

Nice! I can never get an igniter to work for very long... my current grill has a manual, push-button one but either way they seem to crap out on me in no time! Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions! Thanks

Here is what I found, but I don't know why?? If you back up the round gas pipe, so it is not pressed hard into the back of the valve it lights every time right away. I think it lets more air mix with the propane.

The wire brush is an old clothes dryer motor. It works well better than being in a landfill.

My gas valve stuck or had a problem and burned what appeared to be the "O-ring " or black sealant on the gas valve which goes to the manifold .I freed up the valve but I dont know what to use to seal the valve back on the manifold . Its attached with just one screw and a clamp (I'm sure its the same as the one you have here Kenmore but looks like a charbroil ) .Any suggestions what can I use to seal it back on the manifold ? It was may be a black hard rubber like compound "O-Ring " or like a semi hard putty ?? Thanks You video is great :)Ang

always light the side burner first and there is a delay in gas flow for almost 2 minutes when hooking up a new tank. Burner tube have a spider nest or other obstruction in it?

I just took grip pliers, removed the knob, and used the grips to turn the valves. It turned easily.

Did you consider that you had likely removed all the propane from the line leading to the valves when you cracked open the unit? That might be why the burner didn’t light immediately. You have to replace the air in the system with propane. By opening all the burner you purged faster but when you finally did get all the air out and propane reached the burner, all the burners were pumping out the explosive mixture. Singed eyebrows in a flash - experience speaking here.

appreciate the video. was great inspiration to finally rehab gas grill. In case no one has mentioned any solutions to your IGNITION ISSUE...the igniter should have a catch box positioned around the igniter at the location where the arc occurs. the catch box allows the gas to concentrate at the site of the ignition. without a catch box, a copious amount of gas must released into the fire box before the concentration of gas is sufficient enough to be ignited by the arc. think it goes without saying that at that point the ignition is more like an explosion as the excessive amount of gas ignited. Unfortunately, i believe there are quite a few people who routinely lite their gas grill using this method.

My knobs turn and don’t adjust the flame level. Igniter doesn’t click on anymore I have same model but mine isn’t rusted. Help

I've got a 5 year old Char-Broil 5 burner TRU grill and every one of the valves is leaking gas out the orifice. It's in pretty nice condition since it's kept covered and under cover. I mostly use only two of the 5 valves and one of them never got use. I opened up one of the valves that does get used and it looked great. Springs also look great. Of course, Char-Broil's answer is to buy the entire valve system. Thinking there were seals in the valves, I asked the support person if they sold replacement seals but they said they didn't sell them separately. Was a little surprised to find out there were no seals so.....I won't be buying another Char-Broil grill, that's for sure.

IMO, you should have removed the C-clip from the shaft, removed it, cleaned it and the aluminum housing cover bore also, then lubed up the valve shafts with something like Fluid-Film to keep the corrosion from happening again.

No doubt, that would have been the best way to handle it. It all comes down to how much time do you want to take screwing around with it. Fluid film is good stuff, but it does get sticky and waxing over time. I use PB blaster instead.

I had this exact style but it was the full blown unit with the smoker, what a disaster! I probably paid 6 and change for the thing in 2013. I'm not sure who is or did make it for Sears but it is absolute garbage. Asked someone to help deliver a patio set last year and while he was here I asked if he wanted the unit, 5 minutes it was out of here. For the money I could have bought a Weber and should have. Sometimes the looks of a monstrosity over comes common sense. It was a stupid knee jerk purchase. Never again.

The metal is very thin and the welds are just little spot welds that over half of them are falling apart. I thought I might swap it out with my charbroil, but the charbroil is a 7 out of 10 and this one is a 5 out of 10. Looks nice, but cheaply made.

I never had a weber, but I guarantee they are much thicker and stronger than this one.

doublewide6 Repairs LLC pre 2006 Weber's are great. better to restore one of those than any other. the ignighter at least on Weber's have a cover over the sparker to catch some gas and ignite. I think that is missing on that grill and why it doesn't light.

Nice video! Thanks! But wear gloves when spraying brake cleaner. You sprayed it directly on your hand! That's definitely not recommended and bad practice to say the least.
