In this video I am replacing my charcoal / vapor canister from my 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80 this is a similar process for the FZJ80.
I show you how to find the replacement canister because Toyota no longer sells them and they do not make direct replacements for the canisters.
I used a generic vapor canister with zip ties to put it together.

This helped me get rid of my gas smell in my 80 series land cruiser.
This also helped with a suction or swoosh that would happen when I would open my gas tank.

Thanks to you and this video I was able to replace my charcoal canister on my 91 LC. The only thing I did different was instead of using an open end wrench on the front bolt, I used a long extension on my ratchet and loosened it through the engine bay. No more gas smell!! Thanks bro!

Just replaced my charcoal canister! Instead of zip ties I got 2 new 2.5” bolts to clamp the brackets around the circumference of the canister. I also replaced the 2 hoses that came out of the top of the canister. Used about 16” of 1/4” diameter fuel line/emission control hose along with 4 new hose clamps for each end of the new hoses. Thanks for the video! I followed both yours and Cruiser Shooter’s videos to get this done. Keep it up man!

Very well explained.. I have similar symptoms in my 2010 L200 plus i can smell gas around the car. Unfortunately i checked with multiple maintenance shops in my town but with no luck!! Also I couldn’t find something to explain it in youtube Can you advise me plz.

I have a 94, so the canister is just behind the battery. I notice on warm days I do get the gas exhaust sound when opening up the gas cap. Also, on two occasions during extreme heat (Mojave and Death Valley), after stopping and turning off the LC it sounds like a bee buzzing in the canister. It stops after it cools down. Is it doing any damage to the vehicle?

If your canister is bad I would replace it, as far as damage it won't do anything harmful but it won't perform like it should, you will see improvements once you swap it out
