Just a thought, add an access panel above you filler connections to tighten the clamps on the filler/breather hose connections. Great job. God bless, stay well.

I've thought about doing this on my XJ for quite a while now, but, was hesitant about cutting out the whole floor. You just showed me the perfect option without the need for an expensive fuel cell or new fuel pump. Looking forward to your future projects.

Looks good and out of the way of rocks. A good way to put the filler neck on the quarter window is to turn that window opening into a trail tool holder with the filler neck. That way you minimize tools bouncing around the the rig.

You could have it recessed like some of the rotopack window mounts and have a hatch/door over it like Nate put on his Disco!

I used the nutserts for my custom fuel cell! They work great. Just make sure you put rubber between the box and the floor or the vibration will drive you insane!

Be careful about creating a siphon with your vent. On certain angles it may drain your tank. Maybe run it up high then out the bottom.

Not a big fan of using the nylon straps to hold the tank down, given that they are completely out of view when they degrade or loosen up you won't know until things start banging around. Overall though it's nice to see videos of guys using real everyday stuff to build regular guy rigs.

It is a scientific fact that you never need to drop a tank when it is empty. I've pulled several tanks and never once has one been empty when I dropped it.

@@imzackson I've had my xj parked in the 100+ degree sun no shade for days no issues. The biggest issue with the placement if you just plop it in the cargo area is it sits pretty tall and very close to the hatch, so the modification to be done without sitting that tall and to not get punctured if the rear is hit hard on the road or on trail requires more fabrication than one might think .

hey man great show , im too gooing to be moving the tank up. think that ill be comming up not right on top but rase the botthom up as far as the bottom of the unibody, there i can bolt into the unibody a heafty peace of steel to protect the botom of the tank, thaen i can build a cage out of angle then from there i can box in with a screwed top using tabs sholud i need to get in there , also im going to take out my tinted window and replace with a steel sheet that can use that in the corner for the filler neck .like a race type flush mount with key u know what i mean. this then should give me enough room in the back still should i wont to mount on and or around , and also give me space enough underneath ready for the triangled 4 link long arms ,im doing the front three link at the moment , then after all that i could cut out the rear archs or partly ready for to tie in some shock hopes from the inside to the outer hybride cage that i have built . all that said great work mate and love to whach your stuff you do. youtube jeepers4x4keepers.

Just ran across this video relocating the tank. Just curious... Why didn't you just put a bottom on your enclosure and turn that into your tank? Much more fuel capacity. Just a thought. I'll have to follow along with your build.

Hey Rob. I'm in the same boat right now. I was trying to keep the tank in the factory location , but I'm honestly reconsidering it. Are you keeping the leafs or going rear 4 link? Its cool to see how you are tackling this project. I haven't seen much documentation on this swap on an XJ. I lost some motivation to film mine.
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 3 года назад
I am doing a 4 link so the tank is really in the way with all the extra brackets. If you don't stretch the rear and use leafs maybe you will get away with not relocating it. Your tires will prob be in the wheel well though...
@FMJeeping
@FMJeeping 3 года назад
@@MuddyBeards4X4 I think you're right. The gas tank needs to move. I might try a leaf spring flip to get the stretch to clear the tires better. I'd love to go 4 link now, but I am not sure if it is in the cards this winter. Time and money will tell.

When I relocated my tank to the cargo area I thought it would be this simple but making it this simple leaves the tank sitting very high and easily ruptured if the rear end is hit hard on the road or the trail . Also making the top of the cover removable with pins makes the most use of easy access to the pump.

Lol it's more secure now then it is in the factory location. Protected by a bumper lift gate and a steel enclosure.

Jeez dude it slid off a jack from a foot off the ground. I don't think I have seen anyone laying on their back in the garage without a lift and a jack specifically designed to cradle the tank not let it slide down. Empty or not its still awkward and heavy. That tank has seen far more abuse offroad then sliding off a jack...... sorry I used the term "pro tip" it's a figure of speech. I am not a professional in any shape or form so I guess next time to appease you I won't use that turn of phrase.
