After pulling off the old gasket, I attempted to run to the small hardware store to replace it to start off the season . . . safely. I had no idea what a "tadpole gasket" was, and was clueless where I could get one to put back into my now extenct Radiance GAS stove. Finally, I found you here and explained how to replace this gasket "on the glass". After I pulled it off I didn't know how to put it back on, and the instructions were worthless in the manual for the stove--something like a half-done pencil sketch. Now, after about $80. I may have it right this time! Hopefully, I can get the pilot to light. LOL
I do have a problem with the corners, where the gasket bulges up. I replaced this a few years ago and it never did flatten down. Never could get the glass door tight enough so that the outer door would shut flush. This is an old Mt. Vernon, which is about 16 years old now. Still running after a new fire pot, control box and both fan plus augur replacement.
Hi. Do you have a link to purchase the gasket? I am not sure if “tadpole” is what I am looking for when I search for this item for my Santa Fe. My gasket is shredded. Thanks!
Hi Dan... I noticed that after you completed changing the gasket ... that the two corners showed the gasket bulging out a bit. Will they eventually flatten out as the stove is used? Thanks.
You weren't clear about the strip of gasket material on the bottom and should include replacement of it too since we all dont get lucky enough to leave it in place.. it goes on the outside face. Thanks for the video..saved me a service call. Wear a respirator!
Replaced my gasket. Is it normal for the door to now be tighter on closing? Will it flatten out? And I’ve been running it tonight and the stove is giving off some weird chemical like smell, is that just something heating up on the new gasket that will go away?
guided one I wouldn’t cut it if you don’t have to. Unless your replacement gasket isn’t the right one exactly. My replacement gasket came in a 10ft section and went in between the glass and the door. I left the strip alone. The smell I had went away and it’s heating up quicker than it did before which I’m assuming means my gasket replacement did it’s job. My door doesn’t have a gasket at the bottom of the door like yours from what it sounds like.
dude this would be a great video if you had a good video guy and a better camera geesh...its so blurry and u cant see angles a person needs to see, while your taping that gasket up. camerman needs to move. and the editing is horrible.
