We have a Harman combo coal-wood stove manufactured in the mid '80's and the gasket fell out a couple days ago during a pre-season test (plus, it was low 40's up here in Nowhere, NH). I followed the instructions in this video and just the door trick alone was worth it. Definitely removing the door made this process infinitely easier. So far so good.. thankyou! 👍 fistbump city 🤜💥🤛

Thank you for the helpful video! I have a wood stove with 2 doors and a locking mechanism in the middle that locks them in place. I was successful in replacing one side with new gasket yay (the side that closes first thankfully) but the other side won't close and the gasket didn't set properly. I was hoping that it would sink in a bit and that I'd be able to close the door later on - but nope I can see now that it's dry (unfortunately for me) that it's too twisted and didn't set properly into the grooves. Any advice on how to remove it again because it's basically new gasket with new glue?? I have no clue what model this stove is as it's from my grandfather's house
@EarthSense
@EarthSense 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for the message, sorry to hear of the troubles. See if you can get a thin flathead screwdriver under the gasket in the groove. If you can pry up one end you should be able to pull the gasket all the way out and reset it. If the glue underneath is raised and hard, do your best to scrape it out before applying new sealant and laying the gasket back in. Hope that is helpful. Thanks.

Ahhh that makes sense. I mistakenly stretched the gasket to fit in the groove instead of just bunching it in, which left a ¼ gap in areas around the stove door. I'll try this method tomorrow and hopefully that'll take up that gap.

I have St. Croix Prescott. I use 5/8 replacement gasket according to the manual but having difficulty closing door.
@EarthSense
@EarthSense 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for contacting us. Yes, that is the correct size gasket for the Prescott. There will be variations in the weave/density of a gasket - some are a loose weave, very soft - others are a firm weave, very dense. It's also important to remove as much of the old sealant that was in the door groove before placing in the new sealant and gasket. Old sealant and build-up can raise the gasket. I will say that it is normal for closing the door to be very tight after a gasket replacement, but you should be able to close the door. After a handful of times in operation, the door should become significantly easier to latch close. Hope that is helpful, thanks.

I also can't close my door, after replacing my new rope. ?? The Groove of the door was extremely clean, before I started. Thought my rope was the wrong size? It does fit perfectly. Looking to see if I could adjust the two hinges to the door? 🤷‍♀️ Wondering if I need a smaller gasket rope?

@EarthSense
@EarthSense 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for the message - you can certainly apply a new bead of high temp sealant or cement in the 3-4" area that has pulled away and place the gasket back secure. Just make sure you are getting a good seal all the way around. If the seal seams loose in some areas and tight in others, it may be ideal to swap out/replace the gasket entirely. Any other questions or if you need any references just let us know - always happy to help. Appreciate your kind words on the video; very glad to hear it was helpful. Thank you!

I'm having issues with a Harmon P43 that was in my house when I bought the house 2 years ago. it has always had ignition issues, and I was assuming igniter (I've been running lighter less efficient pellets to light easier). but after watching these tutorials I have begun to think its a gasket issue. I'm not sure if they have ever been replaced. Would it be beneficial to go ahead and replace all gaskets including the ash can door gasket and the burn door glass gasket?
@EarthSense
@EarthSense 3 года назад
Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. Before replacing the gaskets, I would suggest you check them first. Stick a dollar bill half in and half out on the door. Close the Door. Pull on the dollar bill. Should be heavy resistance. Do this in several areas around the door. Do the same with the ash door. Visually inspect the glass gasket - we shouldn't see any air gaps. Poor sealing gaskets can definitely have an effect on the ignition, but let's make sure by doing the tests first. Here is a video we did specifically on igniters - take a look at this as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z4wmCc96rVI.html Happy to help and get you back up to 100% with your P43. i have a p43 for almost 10 years. Mine sometimes has ignition issues too. Remove the small plate with wing nuts. Clean that out really well with a shop vac. Also I cheat sometimes. Before you start the stove I sometimes will rip up in strips some news paper and lay it in the burn pot an toss a handful of pellets on top of the news paper strips. This helps get the pellets going easier since they are much harder to get going vs news paper. Lay it flat and toss a hand full of pellets on top before you turn on the stove. This always helps. IF you want to cheat entirely use a torch it will work just fine if its being stubborn..

That new gasket looks to be a lot bigger than the channel it's going into, is that normal? Should I USE 3/4" gasket in my 5/8" channel? The old seal I removed had a smaller rope inside the outer one so it was quite dense, the new 5/8" one I bought didn't and it's not as dense, that's why I'm thinking maybe I should go with 3/4"? Stove is a RSF Delta II, manual doesn't go into changing the seal. Thx
@EarthSense
@EarthSense Год назад
Thanks for contacting us. Did a little research on the RSF Delta II model. Most listings are stating a 5/8" medium density gasket. The OEM that I am seeing includes 2 gaskets - 80" RSF 5/8" Medium Density Round Gasket & 22" RSF 3/8" High Density Round Gasket. Are there two round rope gaskets in your door groove? Yes, density is very important - some models use soft, some models use firm, and others medium. I would say that you either replace yours with a firm density 5/8" gasket or you install a 3/4" medium density gasket to create the proper seal you need. Here is a link to our 3/4" which is a medium to firm density gasket. pellethead.com/product/stove-fireplace-firebox-door-rope-gasket-seal-replacement-kit-3-4-x-7/ Any other questions please let us know. @@EarthSense, thanks for the quick reply. Thanks for those specs, where did you get them? They're definitely not in my owners manual. I measured the seal at 84" long. I want to change all the gaskets, door seal, glass seals etc before the cold weather sets in.

@@fisherguy Thanks Will, that's what I thought. Most gaskets that are of firm density will have what appears to be a rope gasket in the center of the gasket to give it that firm weave/density. @EarthSense

Thanks for the question Jim. We have found a small piece of foil tape used still makes proper seal to the stove body while keeping the ends from fraying. In certain style gasket kits we do include that foil tape. Important we are making sure we get a good seal all the way around and important to check that on a regular basis.

Missy, If you have the Ardisam company Castle Serenity model, your door gasket will be a 3/4" round rope that is used. Generally speaking we recommend folks to replace when there is heavy wear, frays, or air gaps. A quick way to check your door gasket seal will be the following. With the stove shut off and cool, stick a dollar bill half in and half out of the door and close the door. Pull on the dollar bill. There should be heavy resistance. Check in multiple spots around the door as some may be tight, but other areas may be loose. If it's loose or has minimal resistance in any area, we recommend replacement. Wetting it keeps the fiberglass from getting all over. Especially when you cut it.
@EarthSense

@@rodneychapman197 If one is simply wetting down the area where it is going to be cut, I can see that helping with the fray. I would still suggest against soaking the gasket before applying. You’re right about it not sticking if it’s wet. I should have been more clear with my statement. Wetting it will keep the fiberglass from making a mess, but if you wet it for sure let it dry throughly before putting adhesive on it. Maybe wetting it would do more harm that good to wet it. I covered my 4-wheeler exhaust with fiberglass just like this and I soaked it in water so the i fiberglass wouldn’t get on me as bad and it worked great!! But. That’s a total different application. Sorry I wasn’t.clear with my previous statement. I’ll be more careful.
