Right like the dudes in the air were just playing around with it like it’s no big deal. Dragons are supposed to be like top of the mortal food chain that can supposedly hurt and kill a god and they’re just screwin around with it
@@robbrush3863 Depends on your genre. In Skyrim or Medieval settings, dragons actually can be forced to turn away by a bunch of archers using regular bow and iron broad head arrows. Others like pokemon are legitimate creation deities (but get pokeball somehow). In Gate, it makes sense because no small scale infantry weapon or a 50 cal is even going to fatally kill a dragon, even from anti-tank rockets.
@@boyfriendwannabe1825 Maybe they were even allowed to get a few dragonscales or a dragonhead, as trophies xD How many people can show you a real dragonhead for e.g? XD
The dragons absolutely had to die...and they kept moving. So, the JSDF hit them again! Now, imagine the rumors that would spread about the JSDF's power if the empire had witnessed them squash dragonets with their arsenal. One of those dragonets would probably be a hard opponent for all the empire's troops, pre-Alnus Hill attack; a hard-fought victory worthy of many songs and recognitions of glory. The JSDF squashed two in mere moments; less than a minute! And, that was after blowing the mother dragon to Hell!!
Fun fact: back blast can kill or seriously injure. And considering the knife-ears had little to no armor, I assume it was a lethal or near lethal injury.
Due to the desperation and lack of time to deal with the dragon, those dark elves had only received limited training once which was basically "heres how you fire this weapon". No real practice or sufficient training for it to soak in or become instinct, let alone practical experience. It was natural for them to panic or make mistakes when the situation called for them to hit the ground at the speed of sound. Whats sadder is they were also the only surviving young people left of the clan, children who had just grown up while the dragon was terrorizing them and killed all the warriors and combat-capable adults. All but one died fighting a titan which had terrorized them and others for decades with untold suffering. It reminds me of those recruits in the late stages of long wars, mid-to-late teens with like one week of boot camp who are thrown into the front. Towns losing an entire generation of youth.
Dushess A shaped charge (if penetration occurs successfully) send a super-heated molten metal jet through the armor at hypesonic speed, modern HEAT projectiles can penetrate a whole meter of rolled homogeneous armor (very hard rolled steel) and you are bullshiting yourself if you believe that fat worm with wings has the equivalent of 1 meter of steel of protection in its scales.
Duchness Not exactly. A hit with HEAT round is like equivalent to pouring molten metal into target's internal space (for Fire Dragon's case, it's internal organs and skeleton systems). AP is more like launching a very sharp rock with high velocity that it penetrates the armor, such as Lelei's attack with swords
When the first time I saw the SDF decided to provide Panzerfausts to Rome age soldiers without proper training procedures. Me: Ah, gotta see some backblast incidents for sure. Hell yeah, this anime did not fail me!
Haoran Jiang oh those Rome age people experience a portion of Modern Warfare and Technology of the Humans (people from the other side of the Gate Earth people)

Only found out about this series today, and I love the attention to detail shown by the animators. Barrels have rifling, the pistol slides are clearly SIGs, Glocks, or Makarov-style (depending on the modern force), not to mention the uniforms and gear in close ups.
I loved the details as well, even the TOW missiles have visible wires attached to them. Though all this makes me wonder how they managed to fuck up basic lingo like “Fox-2” and “Fox-3”
@@joskethegreat4154 an A10 is not slower than a biplane, and their are not many planes more maneuverable than a biplane. an a10 would have been plenty fast and maneuverable enough to stay out of a dragons reach wile also putting more effective firepower on target.

The manga and anime are both adaptations of a light novel series. There likely won't be more of the anime, because it was basically released as advertisement for the sequels to the light novels. This is about 80% of anime today; advertisements for books, never intended to tell the full story.
They used cold war tech, like type 74 mbt, type 75 spg, f-4 panthom II, etc. Because as i remember that tech doesn't require the latest technology like satellite

@vicente valiente i'm sure if they invaded the united states, they would respond with nuclear armageddon because human rights don't apply to a world that's not on earth
@vicente valiente no one and nothing can withstand a nuclear bomb, and for a good reason: it destroys matter on a subatomic scale due to the neutron wave and gamma rays.

The most overpowered mages in their worlds. But another thought, that makes them highly useful for material production (like make more bullets and C4s.)
I loved the maintenance chief chewing the pilot a new one, then coming around to stomp on the remains, for getting his F-4 scorched by dragon breath. (not seen in this selection of scenes)
Yeah that dude was fucking around getting within knife-fighting distance of the dragon, the guns can fire it from a long range and the missiles from a huge distance away.
it isnt the fire thats doing the damage its the pressure wave and shrapnel thats doing the damage. besides their are only a few types of dragons that are resistant, immune or healed by fire
Michael USS Wisconsin No they are not. This is a common misconception, air-to-air missiles cannot fire at ground targets, only the most modern weapons like the Aim-9X can do this. Sidewinders use a infrared seeker-head that homes in on a heat signature. So unless the dragon is giving a large enough heat signature an air to air missile won’t track it’s location. But if the phantom fired an AIM-9J at the dragon midair the missile would definitely injure it fatally and blow off its wing, 7 kg’s of explosives is not nice even to a large dragon like that. Although the Panzerfaust 3 rocket launchers showed in another scene would definitely penetrate the dragon’s relatively weak scales with it’s shaped charge warhead, and kill the beast if hit in a good location. (Relatively week compared to the almost 1000 millimeters of steel that the Panzerfaust 3 can penetrate.)
The thing I liked about the fight scenes with the Fire Dragons was how it kinda played omage to Godzilla films. The lone trumpet (Or trombone, IDK) playing as the Dragon appeared. The forces aimlessly trying to fight this beast with conventional weapons. One could clearly see resemblance.
Im DYING to see an alternate version where instead of the gate opening in japan,it opens at russia or america. Imagine the carnage... Imagine the chaos... Imagine.... THE FUN

Yes the pressure wave in a mostly enclosed space would have magnified the blast. The explosive pressure would rupture internal organs if not directly damaging the outside of the body.

Probably not using the right type of ammunition. If you're firing HEI rounds, what's hitting the dragon's skin is lots of tiny fragments. Effective against aircraft, not so much against heavy armor.
when I read the manga, I was surprised how the tame and less graphic it became in its transition to anime, especially the POW scene in the first attack on Italica.
...Imagine the aces of the Ace Combat Series fighting the Dragons... They'd probably have terrifying face splitting grins at having to test their "Fangs" on an _Actual_ Dragon.
F-4s FTW! Dinosaur vs dragon! :P I've always had a soft spot for the Phantom even if it does look like someone at McDonnell slammed the hanger door shut on it before it was all the way out. Maybe the blueprints were creased or something. :D
The F-4 was a flying block of design compromises. The folded wingtips exist to fix flight instabilities. Heck, the original build didn't even include a gun because according to the big thinkers in the Air Force, "Missiles will make guns useless". Then missiles failed more than playing card houses in a mild breeze...
@1tiercel If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then you may be overdue for a visit to the optometrist. :D The F-4 was many things, but I'm not sure "beautiful" was a concept that made the cut :D

I love how this anime depicts a modern day Japan using Old outdated American tech like the F-4 phantom from 1958. All the while making the Americans look like bad guys.
I love how only like the final bosses of the Special Region are capable of being even a vague threat to the JSDF. Only infantry with small arms are actually threatened. Once the air cover comes, those dragons are done.
Wait the planes said Fox 2 for rear aspect missiles in a head-on lock (which would be doppler radar, the EJ Kai Phantom has, which doesnt work on slow moving targets), and Fox 3 when going guns (Fox 3 is all-aspect missiles, Fox 4 is guns).
Nah they're on par with tuka family and friends in her village that got attack first by the fire dragon then 1/4 of the cocoda villagers in its second attack.
I hope they are remembered as legends for killing a titan that had terrorized them and so many other clans, tribes, towns, cities and nations for so long. they were basically medieval teens who just got barely old enough with like a day of training with a modern weapon before being sent into a front line.
Honestly the Air Support scene after trying to RPG the Dragon killed that fight scene for me. You just spent most of an episode fighting a monster that heavy ordnance could have easily dealt with and all it did was convey the whole "Underpowered native" bullshit.
Being a demigod wouldn't be so fun if, say, a 20mm cannon turned you into chunky salsa. Of course, they'd probably still magic back together. But damn would it be satisfying if Rory's nemesis went all humpty dumpty.
5:10 If you thought Modern technology is scary in a Magical/Medieval setting imagine combining both. Figure out a way to funnel that magic into multiple firearms and increase the outgoing speed of each bullet, dealing more damage. Aid a Sniper by using wind magic so that he doesn't really have to take wind into account.
QUESTION! How can itami carry rory while she's holding her weapon? Isn't it too heavy for mortals to carry? So shouldn't she be too heavy to carry if she's holding it?
I think the weapon isnt actually very heavy, it simply does not allow anybody else to lift it. Since it was being held by rory, its rightful wielder, it did not add any additional weight. He was carrying rory, not the weapon itself, so i guess that cancels it out. I wonder how much rorys weight increases while carrying that thing? Anime logic am i right
