"i will fight you with my magic infused artifact blade made of the rarest metals!" "thats nice, amma just dual-wield these crowbars I found in a construction site"
Excellent visuals aside. If you keep in mind that he's got no idea what's happening and just says stuff to make himself look cool, this show is absolutely hilarious.
The worst part is, all the chunni stuff he makes up? All of it turns out to be the truth but Cid knows he just made it up. So everyone that hears him spouting random nonsense treats it all like a revelation and it is always 100% correct! Cid literally has zero basis for most of the stuff he spews as facts.
@@Chris_Sizemore exactly, He is speaking facts, and spreading facts within the Shadow Garden Faction, but in his mind, its all a made up story and everyone is playing along thanks to alpha. Meanwhile everyone knows what he speaks is truth, and is willing to reveal/hide that truth.
One of my favourite parts of this fight is that if you pay attention, Cid is blocking all of Beatrix' moves but for Iris he is literally only kicking her everytime he counters 😆
And while Beatrix is constantly getting her attacks blocked, there’s one time where she takes an iaido stance and slashes Cid’s crowbars apart. Afterwards, he dodged her Iaido strike after kicking Iris instead of trying to block. And as an absolute cherry on top, he catches his sword perfectly after the throw. That’s my second favourite bit of choreography. Cid’s absolute outclassing of them both.
@@theoreticaltrap992I like the part that Shadows called Iris's feint amateur and show her and Beatrix how to get it right. Beatrix tried to kick Shadow just as he did Iris, but then he grappled it and use it against her.
Literally the only time Cid wasn't giving Beatrix his full attention was when he was kicking the shit out of Iris, and they couldn't even properly take advantage of that fact xD
its why she got so frustrated, imagine trying to fight someone with all your strength and whenever you approach him he bitch slap you or stump your face. humiliating that woman was the most satisfying moment in anime history
Well, since every true warrior is constantly learning, Shadow just don't mind to teach them a proper lesson as any sempai would do to their kohai. Also, all his students had not the harmony of skill, spirit and mind. Alexia changed her attitude to her skill and spirit, Rose is constantly struggle to her spirit despite having decent skill and attitude and Beatrix just was inferior to Shadow in her way of the sword but not in spirit and attitude.
@@white0thunderwhite0thunder71 And that fighter was none other than Beatrix while Iris was the incompetent fighter who was the pride of her own Kingdom.
@Darkness251 and unlike Iris, Beatrix actually improved throughout this fight. By the end she was able to block and retaliate against that insane speed. Which is kinda bonkers, the sheer level of skill and concentration to be able to actively better yourself in the middle of a fight where you're supremely outmatched. Beatrix was truly deserving of Cid's praise
This reminds me of Kuroko No Basket when Kuroko used his misdirection overflow. The difference between this and and Kuroko was that the cut was comedic adding to the list of bs Shounen powers lmao. This cut was a lot better since it's in a different context that make sense rather than in Kuroko lol.
I like how he humiliates the arrogant but incompetent Iris, but at the same time treat the modest and talented Beatrix with respect. he gave everyone what they deserved.
Yes this exactly. Don’t forget that he blocked a sword using a popsicle stick showing how powerful his magic is. Meanwhile Beatrix destroys his enhanced crowbars, despite her poor magical abilities. She blocks his sneak attack after only experiencing it a few times and he admits that her swordsmanship is on par with his, but her magic needs improvement. Someone else pointed out that he properly blocks or dodges all of her attacks meanwhile he just kicks or punches Iris whenever she counters for the most part, basically swatting a fly.
@@amza880 tbh the translation in this video just said "we" as the Shadow Garden in plural. Didn't specify rank or anything... but maybe the Japanese Dub does. Idk
@@UniCops i dont remember the sauce im gonna tell you about but i will tell you anyway. Fyi, shadow garden low rank is at least iris strength which is the strongest in midgar kingdom. The fact that Shadow fixed the "letting go the sword" strategy from Iris, and used it on Beatrix is a whole level of chad. It's like saying "this is how you do it scrub!"
It pretty funny in the novel as after they knock the sword out of Cids hand their internal thoughts are them celebrating along the lines of "We can win this" while Cid's just thinking "Hey ladies I only use the sword because it looks cool and elegant. I'm WAY stronger with just martial arts"
Thus why he called her an amateur. I'm surprised he didn't add, "You're surrounded by fighters that've seen more action in a week than you have your entire LIFE. And the worst part is, that tactic isn't even new. Watch..."
Imagine waving around a magical sword that demolishes half the city, then blaming the guy you couldnt even properly hit...iris is just a new level of entitled
Shadow didn't lie, it is a crutch. Normal weapons only output a small percentage of the channeled mana, think like electricity lost as heat due to the material's resistance. Mythril artifact swords output 50%, which is great for this world. But slime swords have a 99% conductivity and can be dynamically shaped, whereas her blade is heavy and poorly designed. So depending on that weapon is objectively worse for her. Beatrix actively shows how a simpler, but better designed sword, allows her to fare far better.
Yeah whereas Beatrix took the L gracefully like a true warrior and blamed no one. Iris needed to get humbled, its a big world out there and there is always the possibility that somone else is stronger that u
@@KaiserAfini im not talking about the conductivity necessarily but just how she used it, she was throwing fireballs and explosions everywhere. Having a big magical sword is no excuse to destroy the city just coz shes trying to hit him, then she has the audacity to blame him for the destruction afterwards. Beatrix looks so balanced, like she's sticking to fundamentals she knows well. Especially when she gets hit and knows there's time to recover, she does it in perfect form
@@ultraninja5783They do a really good job of showing each characters fighting style. Like Iris’ brute force with wide sweeping strikes and overhead slashes that lack technique and proper thought, but use the fire and raw power to cover wide areas and mitigate how slow says attacks are. Beatrix’s attacks are the exact opposite using extremely precise and nimble techniques which allows her to be more aggressive and she regularly uses Iris’ attacks as an opening.
Cid himself even says this is the type of sword fighting he loves. It’s the reason he likes Alexia’s style: it’s a product of hard work, built from the ground up
@@eternaldestiny5232 And Shadow stands at the pinnacle of swordsmanship for the most part of his existence. He is no doubt one of the strongest figures in the world where he’s been reincarnated and Beatrix was the first who was able hold her ground against Shadow even though he was holding for a few minutes until he decided to take the fight more seriously, as well as increasing his strength and speed. In the end he dominated the two swordswoman without breaking a sweat and didn’t sustain any damage during his match.
@@MALICEM12exactly bro...even tho the mc is very strong they never win against female characters ...and even if the female character is an enemy ...they won't be killed ....they will just be forgiven....so frustating
I love the fact that Cid just casual switches between 3 different kinds of weapons throughout this fight. From a typical sword to dual crowbars to tonfa's. Goes to show he has the knowledge of every kind of fighting style, even dirty street fights like when iris tried to trick cid but he saw that from a mile away.
@@lugyd1xdone195 Basically, she was trying to use her sword as a decoy in order to grab shadow. Hence right when she was about to slash, she instead threw her sword in shadow’s line of sight so shadow would hesitate which would give her enough time to restrain shadow with her arms.
One of the best scnes ever made. His confidence, because of his power, and his question at the end, while showing that everyone is just a mere insect compared to him, just makes thiis scne so much better.
Cid literally said No U and just flexing his powers, like he can literally just destroy the entire nation and all they can do is just watch in horro, like why do you think he need to run, him vs entire nation? No wonder he laughed
man I love how this episode shows Iris' mind slowly deteriorating with the addiction to defeating shadow. It's not about being stronger than him to protect the kingdom anymore, so much because it's her attacks that destroy the city. It's the sole and pure aim of getting over him and making him feel the humiliation she felt. And even in the end, with her attempt to deceive him and he not only counterattacks but calls her an amateur, it shows that the way to defeat him is much more than a simple and cliché fight strategy. Shadow in this episode perfectly shows the two characters, who were always praised as invincible ones, they still have a very long way to go to really be strong. Looking under a screenwriter's bias, it looks like the mangaka himself giving a moral slap on the cliched isekai stories and parodying the story itself!
In fact you are wrong, the only scene where there is a very significant destruction is when Beatrix and Shadow collide swords and destroy entire buildings while the screams of terror of the people are heard. It's obvious to us who is the bad guy and who is the good guy but from Iris's POV, she only saw a blonde who defeated a huge creature taking a lot of destruction of civilian property, Shadow garden destroy1ng the center of Midgar against Zenon Griffy , they flooded the city with the greatest religious p0wer, they destr0yed the church with the greatest religi0us relevance, Iris after losing saw shadow protecting the murd3r of the king of Oriana and a long etc. Furthermore, she even suspects that Diablos and Shadow Garden are the same organization in secret. It is reasonable to suspect that at least from the POV of her. Add to that that she has the pressure of a kingdom and they compare her to an elf warrior goddess hundreds of years old at least. the comparison is unfair, Iris is in fact very skilled, one of the strongest mortals but Shadow transcends what a mortal is, in fact the mangaka threw out a fact that with the enormous magic of shadow, shadow could extend his life up to 300 years (that is, live on average the same as an elf lives in that world)
The onyl thing that bugs me is how mindless the addiction is. There's no real point of origina, she just decided to beefwith the MC all on her own, LOL. I think she wants to fuck 'im really
Beatrix had trained and honed her own talents for years and probably the only focus other than trying to find her niece even without any support of supreme magic... Iris had been always upfront at her blood as a royalty, had been too expected with the responsibility, had too much stress until she does not realize her action was more destructive when trying to defeat the impossible. Saying it is for the 'kingdom' while her borrowed power's excess of force probably injured more civilians than Shadow would've.
I still love how Shadow's Atomic wasn't actually an attack, but him demonstrating how he works in the Law of Fucking Around & Finding Out. And to further add onto it, Shadow gave THE harshest possible insult to Iris, without delivering a single word. Because Iris' greatest pride & joy is the Kingdom of Midgar. And Shadow's demonstration essentially told her, to her face, "Not only can I eradicate you, not only can I eradicate your kingdom, but I can do so in a fashion so spectacularly, that it'll be remembered more by the attack that destroyed it than as a Kingdom itself."
The most fun part to me is how Iris was portrayed here, a small fry with a big stick coming out of nowhere to shamelessly interrupt in a battle between grandmasters. (while also thinking she's helping)
All she did in the fight was get kicked around. She was getting in the way of Beatrix more so than stopping Shadow. We saw that Beatrix had to dodge her flame attack as well at the start.
Iris is like a perfect storm of spoiled entitlement. She's both a princess AND a prodigy, the mentalities of which are even further exacerbated by the expectations of the knight order she leads and the kingdom she protects. Everything has been handed to her on a silver platter, from status to talent. She's so accustomed to standing at the top that someone she perceives as an enemy being better than her shatters her entire world. Shadow is not beholden to any nation and answers to no one- someone so far outside her range of authority being so much better than her nearly breaks her. Having someone shove her face in the dirt was a humbling experience she sorely needed. Hopefully she'll grow as a person after this, but I'm not holding my breath.
based on the anime and from what people say from the novel, it seems like she need more humbling but whatever, it's nice to see people like her know their place, even though from their perspective we're the villains in the story lol
Say what you want, but Beatrix definitely deserves her title. Iris was just being easily thrown around by Shadow but Beatrix was actually holding her own against him. She isn't nowhere close to his strenght, of course, but she was still the only one in the whole show that was at least able to put up a decent fight. Aside from Shadow, there is probably VERY few people who could actually win against her.
I mean, as a premise of this world, the sword techniques are not as fully developed as "our" world. Shadow is basically born with "god of war" level of combat knowledge when he came to this world. But that also just shows how talented Beatrix is to achieve that level of expertise all by herself.
she is probably the strongest "normal person" around the level of the hero olivier but is weaker than alpha, delta, zeta, Aurora and Vampire Queen Elizabeth etc
Fight choreography and visual aside, the sound work on this fight is amazing. The way the whole world is silent whenever Shadow goes insanely fast at 0:51 is just amazing
@@0fficial_601 seriously, its such a joke to the guy he cannot HELP but laugh. after all to contemplate running there has to be something that can give him pause. which even the two best in the kingdom CANNOT.

Visually speaking, something as simple as his feet just not being present in the next frame gives a shocking display of speed. Aurally speaking, the way his question about running goes from his unrestrained cackling, to the stern question of a teacher, and then into the distorted roar of defiance, manages to capture the absurdity of his situation, not only with how much stronger he truly is, but also shows just how much he had to hold back.
I love how, Shadow isn't even trying very hard. When he tries, at 3:35, he absolutely annihalates them. Also, he's probably the one who did the LEAST property damage. Like, the only time it can solely be attributed to him, is when he stomps them into the ground at the clocktower(?). And then Iris has the balls to say "YOU DESTROYED THE CAPITAL!" like an entitled b*tch.
I mean she isn't wrong. Iris is the one that caused the least amount of damage to the city in that entire fight. Literally 98% of the explosions and destruction you see in the episode falls on Shadow and Beatrix.
@@TheAndymacm Where do you think those wide sweeping, ranged, nuclear level, energy blasts from her sword went? Especially the one at the clock tower that was pointed down.
@@edenarchive4150 So let me get this straight. Your argument is essentially "Iris is the one that destroyed the city (but it all happened off screen)"..? That's not a very solid argument.
The animation, the sound design, the music, and the action. Its just fucking perfect what an absolutely perfectly animated fight. The sound of his step in the rain as he disappears is down right chilling its amazing. I also like how yes its different from the source materiel but in a good way. They didn't change anything narratively, they just made a fight that was already badass in both the novel and manga and made it even better. I hope this becomes a go too example on how to do this kind of stuff cause holy shit well done.
Honestly was a bit disappointed with how they did this part. In the light novel he scoffed at them because they are insignificant. He also handled them a lot more concisely and didn't wreak all the havoc and destruction shown in the anime. That fits with the mastermind in the shadows more than this ostentatious depiction. Also, the lack of damage to innocents changes how he is viewed dramatically, and his subordinates believed themselves to be fighting evil or be the good guys to some extent.
@@travisspicer5514 tbh, he didn't do shit, most of the building getting destroyed was from Iris mithril blade. Although in that one part where Shadow (with crowbars) and Beatrix were fighting 1v1 I have no clue why the building collapsed. The way he didn't even made a sound after disappearing from moving so fast is just amazing and makes sense, he surpasses the speed of sound and even light.
@@dante75310 Man I swear people keep throwing FTL+ speed like it's nothing, but going at light speed means you can literally circle the Earth 7.5 times in a SECOND.
Shadow, the second character to break anime's rule after Eren Yeager who attacked his opponent while they're still transforming. Every high spped anime character would leave a trace, sound, or some sort of crack when they move in super high speed. But for Shadow in this fight he broke the rule by left none of his trace even though he move so fast.
Blue shift can do that... move the speed of light. Interact with nothing as you'd essentially have ceased to exist in one spot to appear in another... use magic. Or sufficiently advanced science. That would appear to be magic. Apply both science and magic? This would be theoretically plausible. He was in modern day Japan trying to figure out how to survive a nuke with his bare strength and be the eminence in shadow... the one who appears as a regular person in everyday situations but secretly controls everything. Dies gets reincarnated here with magic... tells nobody he practiced magic everyday since birth kept all his other skills he picked up here like martial arts various scientific and psychological studies he'd committed to memory. All kinds of things. Kept all those. Then finds himself in a world of magic that's scientifically subpar... survive the nuke? He IS the nuke.
After reading the light novels and hearing Shadows explanation of magic in this world. I can only imagine just how much Mana Iris is wasting. If Mythril can only conduct 50% of anyone's magic power then the wastefulness of her attacks is like if you poured a gallon of water into a styrofoam Dixie cup. Oriana is right. If the technology of those slime suits ever got out into the general populace. It would revolutionize their world. Not that Shadow Garden would ever allow something like that to happen
Genuinely underrated comment right here. She has to have QUITE the amount of magic in her to be able to just dump AOE attacks like that. Granted, she is incredibly upset at this point, anger giving her a likely boost in stamina and subsequently magic energy, but it's also cost her any semblance of tactics aside from "attack his blind spot when he's distracted" over and over and over again. Real berserker-esque style that, while it may work on some, does not work on the trained and talented, who can easily bypass/side-step rookie-level tactics like that with ease. Keeping in mind that Shadow, himself, was born with an average amount of magic power for a human, and the fact that he can refine his technique to such a degree that even without slime/a slime suit, he can extract far more power per magicule than anyone else at this point in the story, and he's taking what he's got and wringing every last drop he can each and every time.
@@sergeantassassin3425 further proving the philosophy that it's not how much of something you have but how you use what you have. Quality over quantity
@@lordsinister707 That might be true. But there comes a point where quantity is a quality all of its own. She didn't get there, but she could get close if she did not care about anything other than dumping raw aoe attacks. She could go for the "dodge this you filthy casual" route and all the fancy sidesteps Shadow can make wouldn't work. Fortunately she doesn't, or can't, and that limits her to what amounts to a temper tantrum.
@Belthazar1113 but from how she's acting in this clip. That is what she seems like she is doing for most of the fight. I mean, her first attack was a huge swipe of fire magic, and Shadow was like, " I'll be sure to move in the next 20 minutes." He wouldn't need those fancy Shadow steps. She's just basically swinging wildly
That's how you show speed. I've waited for an anime do finally do this. No sound, no weird visual, no wind movement, nothing. Just gone. That's how you show otherworldly speed, beyond comprehension.
Iris voice actor is pretty good in shouting. Didn't realise she also voice Emi Yusa of Devil part timer (who shout often in season 1).She also voice Rias Gregory 😊
My favourite part of this fight is that no one knows it's going on around them and sh*t is just blowing up around them. Truly a shadow when you can have a fight of this scale and no one even knew it happened.
Shadow is like a god that just wanted to mess around to amuse himself. The story ain’t even focus on either him or his development, but that’s why watching The Eminence in Shadow was as satisfied as watching OPM. Because we don’t need to afraid the MC would suffer or die, we just need to see wether all other details are logical enough and know if the MC takes action the fight is over.
Granted if Shadow didnt exist, The cult would be the Heroes of this story, The Power in the background controlling everything, Built on the thousands of corpses of the possessed. The world was doomed from the start, well, until he showed up. 😅
Credit where credit is due, this is really well cut. It's not confusing, the cuts are at the perfect amount and length, and you still get the proper context of each scene
This show is great, I can't wait for S2 (if there is one). It's the first Isekai that I know of that goes out of its way to be cringe, thereby cancelling the cringe-factor, as they're self-aware/intentionally being cringe.
Season 2 is already announced and will be airing in the fall season! And as someone who has read the manga I'm even more excited than I was for season 1!
While they are self-aware, I still feel they overdid it so much. I basically could only enjoy every third episode and had to sit through a lot of cringe instead.
Arguably one of my favorite evil laughs but also terrifying ones ever to be heard. Just simply hearing his laugh is just terrifying. Imagine you in person fighting shadow and you get back up only to tell him that we will blame you for all the crimes you did and this is his response. That laugh is just epic and just terrifying.
Run? Where? Why. Let me show you why it is not necessary for me to run anywhere. I am .... Absolutely the best. They actually believed they could win, even though he trounced them throughout the fight. If he used his trump card, the entire city would be nothing but dust, including all within it, except for him. The fact that she blocked his strikes shows that he was letting her off easy. He moved so quickly, and only attacked when he was sure she would be able to block it. Sort of a 'You suck so bad, I have to give you some sort of handicap advantage. I won't strike as soon as I can, but give you a chance. There you go. You blocked it. Good girl.'
his final statement was great, run? WHO? WHERE? WHY? and instantly shows how he could delete the entire nation by himself in an instant with a single spell
Great animation. The JAV's are all superb. Love the story. What I wasn't expecting...The quality of the soundwork throughout this entire anime. Next level attention to every detail and hit all the high notes right level of soundwork.
this also portayed so perfectly well how Iris as a fighter is gifted in a sense, but has overly relied on that gift and never honed her craft. throughout season the anime when we see Iris fight.. the common denominators. "Massive mana" huge ass powerfull swings and the sword crumbles afterwards. Throughout this fight you can also see that she keeps doing the same thing, massive swings, massive outburst of her magic and extreme amounts of pyro generation. Not once does she do smaller swings. She is literally a genius that have overly relied on her one asset, power, to the point where.. she basically is "canonfodder" to anyone more powerfull than a stereotypical knight
this anime is the best...in everything...the plot the animation and above all the speech dalivery....hats off to the voice actors...specially the one did shadows voice
3:26 I just realised that when iris dropped the weapon for a take down the camera goes to beatrix eyes with suprise all this time I thought it were Cid's eyes showing disappointment but now it's clear cid wasn't disappointed in iris he knew she was one and just called her a amateur to fuel her range and see how much more she can humiliate herself. Blud is chaotic neutral.
0:50 This shot was so fucking badass. I've never seen any other anime doing it like this, they always do some after-image or some sort. But Shadow straight up disappears out of frame like a gigachad he is
If I remember correctly, in the light novel during this fight he's basically not even paying attention and is busy thinking about various other things and daydreaming while is body is basically on autopilot. But to the girls, it's the most extreme fight of their lives.
I Remember watching show and thinking that shadow was going to be a anti hero type character, but he really wasn't which surprised me. What got me more was the usual evolution of iris as character. Her sister, whos far more open minded sees the value in shadow garden and that they're trying to help. However Iris narrow minded way thinking leads to an unhealthy obsession and she's start to become blind to what's truly going on. 10/10 character development.
I love this show because of how cool it is whilst still being the silliest Isekai satire out there. Nothing beats this kinda thing where it has those moments of the real main characters being defeated and the knowledge that Cid is just screwing with all of them
She said the one thing she shouldn't, it´s one of Cid's berserk buttons, implying or saying that he is running away. Beatrix realized right then and there that if they provoked him further, he would have killed them
i realize this power is like 10 times the size of his atomic that he used before , if he were to execute it i cant imagine how many people will die , he is truly became the nuclear itself 😂 , he just stating the fact to dumb named NPC like " LOOK I CAN DESTROY THE WHOLE TOWN WITH WAVING HANDS " truly epic protagonist lol
there is another thing i just noticed during 3:37, "any form of magic disperses once it has been let go off by the user" the sword was made out of slime and magic yet still retained its form, they were obviously outmatched every milisecond of the fight but damn every bit of flex is like natural to him
I just love this he's OP because he pushed himself to his limits and broke all the walls that would have been holding anyone else back HE EARNED his OP though insane training and pushing himself over and over again to be the true strongest alive also with his quick way of adapting to what's around him and using it to help him in the fights he's in
This show is probably one of the best isekai i've seen. The MC knows all the basic tropes isekai anime and uses them in his favor. There's one scene i like the most where he's getting tortured and all he can think about is "So fucking cringe*
I don't care what people say, this anime kicked ass!!! I love how he plays the side character but he is actually confident in his ability and can back it up.
