I love seeing any of the AH crew outside of their content. It reinforces the idea that they are extreme versions of their real personalities on their stuff. Gavin and trevor are so just.... gentle and well spoken. Like when Off Topic took over Always Open. The whole crew was just.... gentlemanly. I love that they can be open and honest and still be crazy

sluckett21, that’s something that I like about RT as a company. They can be crazy and fun or they can be serious. They are real with us, the fans, and I respect that about them. It can be hard in the entertainment industry to be as open and real as they are. Especially on Always Open like Barb said.

The words "calm down" are super iffy when they aren't used in conjunction with an extension to the statement. "I think we both need to calm down and talk about this later" is MUCH better than just telling someone to calm down for example, because often an argument can be peacefully resolved by just taking a while to think things through and let out the stronger emotional reactions in a controlled and harmless way.

For those wondering: Noom is only focussed on weight loss. As someone who gets asked if he's anorexic, I thought Noom could help me gaining weight. I put in my ideal weight higher than what it is currently, but all the questions were still about weight loss.

I also think calm down is something many kids are told by their parent. And so it harkens back to being looked down on and talked down to. If someone says calm down I immediately feel like they are talking to me as if I were a child.

I think saying "Calm Down" can be appropriate depending on the context. I don't think the words themselves are inherently bad to use, but it matters a lot around the situation and the conversation. I think Gavin's example would be suitable use for it, where if they are worried about something outside the relationship or working themselves up. In a context like that I think it is fine. In a context of one person is mad about something in the relationship or the partner, then it can definitely be seen as invalidating that emotion.

I live in a small town. The school is about 500 people. Half the 8th grade (20 person class) vapes and the 2019 senior class almost got senior trips canceled because half the class got caught smoking the weed on the trip.

No one of any repute related to vaping has ever said its healthy but maintains it's about harm reduction versus conventional smoking... as has held true so far. If you don't use nicotine, don't start. It's not "healthy" in any form.

I'm in Australia and at an all girls school with a brother school. I hear girls around school talking about drugs and boys from our brother school being suspended for weed. In the past week I heard and I quote "he said to me 'don't worry it's not cocaine'." when referring to a guys snap that got sent to her. It's honestly scary the amount of drug use there is. Vape, weed, alcohol and from what I hear possibly more. Being a teen nowadays is terrifying.

My upbringing has taught me to avoid conflict at all costs cause I used to be a pit bull and I never backed down even when I was wrong, which felt like never. I slowly learned that in those situations everyone loses, and people are unwilling to admit they're wrong. Nowadays if I feel a heated argument coming on I just back down, agree to disagree and change the subject.

I find "calm down" is frequently used in situations where someone does something, and then doesn't want to deal with repercussions. Certainly you can use those words, but the tone is important.

Instead of saying calm down, I will pause and say "ok lets take a breathe" bc it means the same thing without the horrible connotations that Trevor was talking about (I did learn this technique from working with kids lol). It gives everyone a chance to breath (also highly dependent on the tone you use)

I feel like kids doing drugs or whatever at school is probably a bit overblown to some degree. I'm sure that at almost, if not every school, had kids who did drugs, smoke cigarettes, drink etc, throughout the years. Its like how people think the world is getting worse because they hear more news stories about bad things, but the reality people didn't hear as much about them in the past. Its just the speed of information has changed, so "shocking" stats or "bad" news gets passed along much more quickly due to technology. I will also point out its the same for "good" news and stats, but negativity attracts attention so much easier and quicker.

Being told to "calm down" is heavily dependent on context I think. Certainly telling someone to "calm down" without trying to understand them is incredibly dismissive. However what happens when someone is yelling and being verbally abusive towards you? It's okay to not like being told to "calm down" but it's also not okay to be verbally abusive towards others either. That's no way to converse. Always try and calmly talk things out like adults. Don't be dismissive but also don't be verbally abusive either.
