These are the Gawds Tim Franken 1, the first plastic shell boot from Gawds. They're based on the USD VII, which was my favorite plastic shell boot before they discontinued it in 2018. Now it's back with a new look and a new liner, but the same classic design.

Was surprised when i saw the pics of the prime liners a little while ago, the USD 7 is a spacious shell so having a thin liner like that immediately put me off. I think they are much better suited to the crown and fatboy liners as they fill up alot of that space in the shell.

I'm a size 11-11.5 shoe. So I bought 11-12 size, WRONG! There was a 2in gap in front of my toe to shell. Franky had the 10-10.5 size to me within a day. My setup is with myfit SPC liners and 50/50 primes. I couldn't be happier with this skate, 1st skate I've had that feels right! If you buy them, buy the next size down. Thank me later 🤘

Thanks for talking in depth about the sizing width / length. Really helps to have a point of reference as to what size your feet are for deciding if the boot shape will work for people with differently shaped feet.

I downsized My VII 2010 because the massive space in the front. I'm 44 but My VII are 42 with a thin liner (them m size). Looks and feels awesome 🔥

The old Remz liners would do that to my feet. The padding up at the ankle/shin was nice, but down on the foot was only a super thin layer of neoprene. My foot was moving around way too much.

It is funny as it is literally the first time I had a completely different first experience than yours on a skate :) I skated USD 7 and Razors SL before I swapped out to this boot. I feel very limited forward flex and overall flex of the cuff in these. Would be interesting if you would do a USD 7 session for a direct comparison.

Literally the same feeling with the Rem 2.5's that came out a few months ago. That same exact feeling with the liners in them. Going to have to switch out the liners for them to be stateable me thinks.

I have a fairly wide foot so hearing this may accommodate that is good news. I just hope the shell size is an 11-12, instead of like a 12-13. I hate being on the lower side of shell sizes.

I agree the boot is roomy. I switched in the liner from my Montre Sway and it is much improved.

On the old 7’s I remember recommending adding an insole under the liner to take up some space in that boot when you mentioned having almost too much space in your live stream…. Not sure if it was a break in change or something you did because you didn’t mention it again after that

Might need a sneaker tongue under the laces, haha. Remember when usd made skates with a tongue included. It’s good to see pro skates on the market and know the skater has a say in the features of the skate.

Thanks for the great review! I have a 300 mondopoint and was wondering if a US 11-12 would fit me (mondopoint 291-298 according to the Gawds size chart) or if I should go for the US 12.5 (mondopoint 305). If possible, I'd prefer the smaller ones.

I wish that somebody do a Liner like the JUG liner i have in my SL Burston and Aragon!!! Some skate need more padding and some less but everyone try to do less padding.

I have the Myfit Fatboy and they are somewhat reminicient of the old Jug style liner. Lots of padding and fill out the boot a bit more. The Myfit Crown does a good job of it as well. I use a Crown in my Salomon Rob Thompson 1's and Fatboy's in my USD Sway.

Great review and I'm interested to see if they changed the shell sizing or if it is just the thinner liner on the foot wiggle front. Also is the Prime liner thinner than the 2nd skin? I'm trying to work my foot in to a linerless carbon Seba Wizard boot and the Intuition V2 is just slightly too thick (43 shell/mediumV2).

It’s a good question. I don’t have a second skin to test but I’ve been told this feels like a cheaper version of it by people who do.

I know you've moved on to the Razors Genesys but I added a running shoe insole underneath the liner and it seemed to fix the t-nut feeling and made the liners a little more snug in the boot. Was skating the Derek Henderson 2nd model but decided to give the Gawds another run with a little mod. So far so good, take care law

In your opinion would you go the Derek Henderson or the tim franken having tried both? Around my area in Australia they’re very similar in cost.

@@Shannon23455 I've personally decided to stick with the Derek Henderson's after skating both for a while. I love the reign liners once I was able to break it in. Skate is also pretty flexy so topsides aren't too difficult. If you can get both on feet that would be your best bet since both shells are a little on the large side. Good luck man

Hey #backtoblading i orderd the TF 43/44 for a size 43. My foot is 27cm. I’m going to swim in these skates 😅. Should i go for the 41/42 ?

This "Prime" liner is really disappointing. I was very torn, but for now I am happy that I chose the Blank SK instead of the TF.

The liner is awful. I like the skates but I’d like my money back for the liners haha. I don’t even want to give them away because I don’t want anyone else having to deal with them.

Looks like Powerslide's attempt at an Intuition-ey high-end liner is kind of a flop. Too bad, since they jacked up the price of the skate so much that I figured they must have really gone hard with the liner's build.

I put a razors shock pad in mine as I felt like I was leaning too far back, but my m12’s didn’t but they were too narrow.

From what i've heard this liner is just a downgrade from the second skin liner which in my opinion is there best liner.

Well if you're wearing the same size as your old 7s then yeah they are gonna be sloppy and bigger with the thinner liner. The fact that they mention low volume liners should be a red flag for everyone to try a smaller size instead of their old one.

Totally agreed, but I’d still say a 44 boot should properly fit a 44 foot. Not my fault they changed the liners, I didn’t change my foot size

@@BacktoBlading Remember, our sport is international so the only thing we can trust at this point is the mondo sizing, only thing I've had luck with so far when it comes to some kind of consistency sizing. Am just glad Gawds put the sizing chart on their product sales page. Usually you got to dig a lil bit. By now your Fatboy's probably fill them in. Keep up the great content. Can't wait to try these.
